Would you leave UBB to come work under Cullen?

We know why Nienaber came to Leinster but now the irfu have to root them both out of it.

That's the second time I've seen it and it's actually much worse the second time.

This guy is not a serious manager. He should be absolutely spitting fire at a performance like that.

Leinster are not winning another ECC with this cod in charge.

the only thing that is certain is that joey won’t stay injury free.

If joey is the answer somebody somewhere is asking the wrong question

they scored off of first phase so easily. Two runners on a delay coming from deep and they got outside of the 13 channel easy as you like.

Tbh after watching that post match interview I think Cullens head is gone.

They went with the siege mentality after the Saints game last season, I think it was Sheehan, us v everybody else & we are OK with that....thats fine but you have to back it up on the pitch & be ultra clinical in all aspects.

Luke Fitz referenced a shot of the coaching box laughing/smiling post a wayward kick by Ringrose in the Toulon game.

They were well up at the time but not home & hosed & as it transpired nearly blew it...tat speaks volumes.

That squad need a change of voice at this stage re of a year left in his contract but that depends on who they want & post WC may give better options.

I didnt like the camera panning to Prendergast on at least 2 occasions...that was cheap & unnecessary stuff imo

I don't think speed of ruck ball was the problem. I think JGP has started standing over the ball when it's available. I think this season he has become a bit ponderous over the ball.

Lucu was such a contrast. He just got to the ruck and passed the ball as quickly as possible. No waiting around. I think JGP used to be quicker to get the ball away.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,339 ✭✭✭lawrencesummers

JGP was good in the 6N.

Maybe both are an issue, but definatley the Bordeaux work in the breakdown slowed Leinster down at times.

100% it did. They got hands on the ball a lot before being cleared out (when they didn’t get a turnover). They did a great job. Have to give them huge credit for that.

It was the same in the semi. There was a good few attacks where he was very ponderous, where carriers were repeatedly having to check their runs and reset because he was taking so long. I think he's starting to look his age a bit, and the consistency isn't there the same way.

Very deflating altogether. Not much to say beyond congrats UBB.

Went for a walk to clear the head and started thinking back to when Mick Dawson was in charge. Granted, he retired but is the province really missing him?

Shane Nolan succeeded him and what has he achieved? Two finals and a semi lost. Nienaber hired. Leo retained.

Castore the jersey manufacturer. I was out this morning and couldn't find a stitch of Leinster clothing in the sports shops - on the day of a European final. Shameful.

We rarely sell out matches nowadays. The marketing has really gone downhill. He came in with a fanfare of improving the commercial activity but next year we face having a smaller squad with the likes of Lowe leaving us.

Bit never mind, so long as we have "Devin the Destroyer" on the pitch trying to drum up cringe-inducing viking claps before each game, I guess it's all rosy 🙄

As much as I hate Castore, the jersey point has long been a problem. I remember years ago trying to pick up an Adidas one in Lifestyle sports from January/February they were out of stock in most sizes.

True but there's wasn't so much as a beanie in the shops. Nothing! This is the sort of stuff the new CEO was supposed to get on top of yet signed a deal with those clowns

I think we have to acknowledge the fact that it wasn't for the easy draw, Leinster would have been nowhere near Bilbao this weekend. After the "real final" win over Toulouse, UBB already had one hand on the trophy.

Considering how poorly they were playing last Nov/Dec, they've done pretty well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,376 ✭✭✭✭Clegg

Nah, that's not right either. Leinster's draw wasn't "easy". They won every pool and knockout game to get to the final. They had the exact same obstacles as every other side and got through them better than the rest.

Unfortunately we got what we deserved today, the game was an accurate reflection of our season. We've rode our luck at times, benefited from a great draw and other teams doing us favors. All this business regarding Lions and Ireland caps in the squad really don't hold water when the opposition players are simply better on the field, and have better coaching. Of our five finals that's the only won we lost inside the first half, a sign we're going backward. The coaching set up isn't working. Scott Robertson is available..

ah you had a handy path to the final.

Leinster 2026 remind me a lot of Ulster 2012. You wouldn’t have made it to the final only you had a great draw, but once you met a serious side you were beaten out the gate.

Bordeaux put manners on Leinster today. I’d say you might need to go back to 2012 to find such a mismatch.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,453 ✭✭✭PMC83

Spot on, and unfortunately it's very obvious we didn't learn much from our round of 16 game against Edinburgh. Intecepts and floaty passes were being plucked out of the air all day today. We were 100% found out today.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,549 ✭✭✭clsmooth

Who are the serious teams in Europe, Toulouse and Bordeaux? Any one else?

  • Administrators Posts: 56,565 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭awec

Bordeaux read your attack like a book today. The amount of times players got nailed behind the gain line, I honestly lost count.

even though you made another final I honestly think you’ve regressed since last season. you are overly reliant on big forwards making big plays but when you meet a team that can’t be overpowered you look absolutely lost.

Let's face it, Gunne is not and likely will never be a replacement for JGP. Just haven't seen anything that remotely indicates a stellar career ahead.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 14,699 ✭✭✭✭AbusesToilets

Watching it back, we really shot ourselves in the foot. Outside of the obvious mistakes, we butchered some great scoring opportunities that could brought us back into the game. The botched lineout when Sheehan just chucks it and no one is even remotely ready. TOB's pass that got picked off around 50 mins when Reiko was in acres of space to likely score in the corner. The inaccuracy was so frustrating to see.

Time was up for Leo and Nienaber 12 months ago, time to be ruthless now, I'd give McNamara a shot, bring back a better style of rugby than the Nienaber model.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,065 ✭✭✭ujjjjjjjjj

Personally I think the slide started when we gave the kit selling gig to Lifestyle, the little shop in Donnybrook was the absolute business. It's been a steady decline since.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,376 ✭✭✭✭Clegg

McNamara is contracted with Bordeaux until 2029. He signed a new contract a few weeks ago. That's a no go.

Besides, we won't get anyone half decent until after the World Cup anyway. Cullen and Nienaber are here until the end of next season at least.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,065 ✭✭✭ujjjjjjjjj

Dog in the Street knows the best 2 sides were Toulouse and Bordeaux and we did get a decent draw.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,065 ✭✭✭ujjjjjjjjj

Still only wearing old Leinster Canterbury stuff, it's well past it's best now but still going strong . Adidas and Castore absolute pants and that garbage the players were in today was totally embarrassing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,065 ✭✭✭ujjjjjjjjj

They are the top 2, below that at the moment next best 4 are arguably Bath, Toulon, Montpellier and Leinster.

It was a very handy run, to say otherwise is mad stuff. And the fact they nearly blew it on the way, with Leo laughing at a missed conversion, should have been massive alarm bells.

Leinster improved a bit in recent weeks and looked more cohesive, but looking at the season as a whole they can't be happy with how they've played. No point being 'generational' against Ospreys seconds if you can't turn it on in a final when it counts. At one point before the yellow Bordeaux were on course to be setting a record defeat in a European final.

It'll be interesting to see how the URC pans out, a lot of those players will have to go to the well again
