Yip @compsys in my post yesterday, I referred to Thursdays forecast not on 'my radar' 🥲 for the commute lol.

Currently overcast, dull, rolling threatening clouds 15⁰ Meath.

Some of the models in the FI thread are showing very warm to hot temperatures for next week, that'll be a shock to the system after this cold spring, but ya know. It's fantasy island stuff.

A lot of flies around the last two days. Sure sign that summer is coming.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth house?

I wonder what kind of humidity will this upcoming warm spell bring? 🤔

I hope it's not a humid warm spell. Google weather a little too optimistic for next week I think?

Being Ireland, the weather is never set in stone.

I think this will chop and change a bit over the coming days. But warmer, dryer and sunnier weather is certainly on the way.

However some mist and cloud on Atlantic coasts and maybe some sea fog in the East probably can't be ruled out either. So there'll probably be a few disappointed people on here at times.

Yeah Met Eireann had 26c for Sligo next week yesterday, today its 19c

Watered down but ill be optimistic and say wel get 22c or 23c. Plenty of cloud mist and rain here each day though as theres only been about 12 days without rain in 2026 in Sligo so over 90% chance there will be mist n cloud in NW.

Rain for May 2026 so far 74mm .

Any chance of the wind easing off for this warm spell? It seems in recent years when we've had warm and sunny weather there's been a strong wind accompanying it a lot of the time.

Met.ie always seems to understate these warm periods for the south coast. I'm "by the coast" but 3km inland and the forecasts always have me about 3 or 4 degrees lower than what actually happens. The coastal effect dies off quite quickly.

I grew up about 1km from the east. During high pressure settled weather in late Spring till mid summer, it would often start calm but the icy sea breeze would kick in from about mid-morning and it would be very cool and breezy until the evening, with temperatures quite often 10° cooler than inland, if not even more than that.

I lived about 40km from the east coast from 2009 to 2021 and in the same weather setup, the sea breeze would usually arrive around noon or shortly before lunchtime. It would not be nearly as cold or strong as when I lived 1km from the coast but there would be a noticeable uptick in the breeze and the coolness would be felt however it would usually begin to fade during the mid afternoon and the highest temperature of the day would often be between 17:00 and 18:00.

My current (hopefully forever) home is now smack bang in the midlands, with the nearest coastline about 100km away in a few different directions. Now when there is high pressure settled weather at any time during the summer months, it's often flat calm all day, with just the odd little light breeze due to local effects but even then the breeze feels warm. It often feels like being away in more southern parts of Europe during those weather setups. I'm a heat lover so this sort of weather is perfection for me. I'll never miss the sea breeze.

I seen UKV posted on netweather. 35/36c for parts of England earlier next week. That would smash their May record if it happened. It’ll be hot there regardless.

True. But the East, especially around Dublin, is one of the driest and sunniest locations in the country. Swings and roundabouts I guess.

    Today is a good example.

The rain has largely held off in Dublin and it's a mild 18/19º while a lot of the rest of the country is under a deluge. Was similar yesterday.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,750 ✭✭✭highdef

Yeah, when I lived very close to the east coast and there was summer high pressure, whilst it might have been cool and breezy, it would be one of the sunniest parts of the country.

Personally, I'd far prefer warm, calm and cloudy than cool, breezy and sunny ten times out of ten.

20.2C at Giants Causeway and Derrylin today.

Highest in ROI on WOW hourlies I could see was 19.9C at Emyvale, Monaghan.

rain died off before it got to me here in Meath earlier today, nothing more than 1 or 2 spits of drizzle. Mild today but that wind took the edge off the temperatures.

19c here today in Tipp but quite breezy.

Overcast grey cruelty in Cork and it's horrific for the head, walking and everything is just dull and grey, not even a night sky to look at. Feel like I'm being smothered.

That's the humid southerly flow for ya. Never a good wind direction for Cork.

Got to 18.4c in Sligo but rained and windy of course. Love how the weather on radio says mainly dry with patchy mist and drizzle. Is patchy mist and drizzle dry?

Much preferred the sunnier and colder weather earlier this month. Manky, drizzly, damp and mild feel out tonight.
