The chill is gone out of the air anyway and wind seems to have changed direction to whatever it was playing at the last few weeks. Much nicer jog in that breeze today and house doesn't feel cold.

Also welcome our new fluffy residents to the Tolka

68mm so far in May now. Wont stay under 100mm so it will be the 11th wet month in a row in Sligo. Last warm spell of any note was late May last year and a couple of days in June last year.. here anyway. It rains nearly every single day now. Is this the new normal in NW.

Quite warm now in D16 but it’s so windy which takes away from the enjoyment of the warmth.

absolutely crazy rain fell a while ago near Trim, you know when they say the heavens opened, well the heavens literally opened, like a sheet of rain falling!

Heavy showers, torrential at times. Feels a bit milder.

And another shower of similar intensity is just arriving now.

Did the July spell not happen there then? I know it was rather brief of 3-4 days but you surely had upper 20s if Roscommon managed the magic 30C.

Another few very warm days in mid-August also up to 29C. Not sure if the NW had that though without checking stats. The July one I refuse to believe you didn’t!

Finner camp had its hottest recorded temperature last July although the station hasn’t been open that long. Just under 30c if I remember right. It's coastal and very close to Sligo.

Third day in a row of non stop rain here in Tralee. Horrendous weather, truly awful. God forbid that this crap continues into summer.😲

After a miserable day it has cleared up here in the past 20 minutes to bright sunshine :)

It has indeed. I have just arrived at a beach near Spiddal and I plan a long walk along the shore. Showers in the distance though.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth house?

an absolute pig of an afternoon/evening here in Meath with showers and downpours, thankfully a much dryer scene from tomorrow with increasing temperatures. Looks largely dry but not exclusively dry over the coming week.

Disaster of a day today. Prolonged downpours.

Torrential downpours all day here, some of them prolonged. Cold, I've had my stove lit since 5pm.

At least temperatures will begin to rise as the days go on and next week with low to mid 20s

yes, while we are not going to get the heat much of the rest of Europe including the UK will get, we will get a fairly big swing in temperatures from the damp 10 to 14C we've had over the last week to about 17 to 21C over the next week to 10 days which is a huge improvement. If we can get perfect conditons in some locations 22 to 24C is possible too but most of us will see 17 to about 21C.

I’m excited for the heat wave :)

    >25C isn't in of itself unusual for Ireland in May. It happens on average every other or few years (though not since 2020). Over 27C has only happened in the following Mays on record however: 1922, 1997, 2010, 2012, 2017.

May 2012 is the only May where an official Irish station achieved official heatwave conditions (5 consecutive days >25C) and that station was in Donegal of all places.

Dull, damp and murky morning in north Longford. 12c with sky's starting to brighten somewhat now. I might get a bit of work done today.

I remember that summer in Ireland, and the rain kept pouring down.

Didn't seem to want to relent, totalling to high amounts.

The Irish had a lot of high hopes, following record warmth in March and May.

But by June the skies turned grey, and the sunshine went away.

The floods came down to Cork town, farmers praying for a break while silage soaked the ground.

And every day on RTÉ the weather gave bad news.

Another low out in the Atlantic singing rainy blues.

I read that post to the tune of Bagatelle's 'Summer in Dublin"! 😂

What are they doing in the Hyacinth house?

such a bad summer surely one of our worst if not the worst in decades . June 2012 was particularly depressing with the Irish team doing poorly in the Euros and the never ending rain.

They good weather was meant to start today, currently 12 degrees and raining yet again in Dublin.

    It wasn’t really.

It’s a classic mistake of warmer weather = automatically good (sun etc). Lots of cloud and some rain/drizzle about has been forecast for the earlier parts of this week.

Yesterday into today was the beginning of the warming period. Today should hit 17/18c in Dublin. It’s getting better and better as the week goes on and into the weekend.

There is some proper May heat on some of the models for England. Some gorgeous runs for us too. We are just getting going. The high pressure due overhead by the weekend isn’t effecting us yet, so today was never going to be sun splitting the stones, just warmer air arriving. We still have a low pressure to our NW currently, with the high nudging in closer to Friday.

Sit tight, some really good (even hot) weather is approaching.

Just for fun - the GEM has it hitting 30c in parts of the midlands Monday to Wednesday next week.

Yes — and tomorrow rain is forecast for most of the country too. So people should be prepared for that. The good weather doesn't really start until Saturday. And even then Atlantic coasts look like being cloudy and misty at times.

It's definitely an improving picture though. The Dublin area could see a week of temps above 20º which is great for late spring.
