I think that poster was referring to "in-season" ticket pricing. In fairness, UBB has only been in existence since 2006, of course you're going to keep prices low while you're in fanbase building mode. Leinster did the same back in the day, and even up to fairly recently - there were €5 schools ticket deals in the Aviva only a few seasons ago (feckin brats kept throwing rubbish off the top tier, though!) - but the fact of the matter is that they simply don't need to anymore. Certainly not in the RDS, anyway. You could probably make a fair argument that they could have done more to fill the Aviva for the "dud" URC games the past two seasons alright, though.

    Anyway, who's going on Saturday?

It's a real pity Baird isn't available to counter Woki in the lineouts. He did a lot of damage there against Bath.

At this stage one would hope the players know enough themselves to overcome the obstacles they face. The biggest drawback to Leinster winning won't even be playing. Cullen may well prove to be the oppositions extra man.

This sounds like a hot take overheard in the pub.

That might be fair for in-season in the new RDS - if its consistently a sell out - but for the Aviva there have been so empty seats there that could easily have been partially filled with student / schools / clubs etc outreach.

We'll have to see how ticket numbers look in the RDS to know, though.

I think its just a slight amount of proactiveness across the board in terms of outreach thats been missing, and that will still be the case in the new RDS.

Leinster have added Paddy McCarthy and Jordan Larmour to the European squad for the final, deregistering Alex Usanov and Josh Kenny in their place.

The Larmour addition is worrying in terms of TOB's fitness. Would be great to see Paddy McCarthy involved, but it would be a pretty big gamble.

I really hope Leinster don’t break Paddy McCarthy rushing him back from what was supposed to be a season ending injury. They have the Ireland pack minus Beirne there. Surely they have enough firepower to live with Bordeaux without needing to rush back a young guy.

Maybe give it a break with the catastrophising and let the actual medical and S&C professionals do their job?

Baird's initial prognoss was he would be out for three months, it ended up being four and a half months.

Now, he was rushed back, according to a man with zero knowledge of anything.

You haven't a clue what the story was with Baird.

Oh are we cherry picking a single examples? Nice.

What about when they got Sheehan back in 6 months after an ACL tear? Who then went on to start 3 Lions tests (scoring 16 tries in the season he returned)

At no point was it confirmed that McCarthys was a season ending injury FWIW. That was a throwaway line by Farrell directly after it happened.

Larmour being added I would imagine points to TOB not making it unfortunately. TOB, Ioane, Keenan, Lowe, JOB, Osbourne all cover and would be ahead in the pecking order. I'm probably jumping the gun but sounds to me as if it may be Osbourne at 12, Lowe Ioane Keenan back 3 with JOB at 23. Larmour as travelling reserve. Could be completely wrong but that's how I read it.

Another option I guess is Henshaw at 12, same back 3 with Osbourne at 23, JOB and Larmour both as travelling reserve.

Either way I don't think Larmour being added in good news for TOB.

They might be adding Larmour just because they can. No point having an injured JJ Kenny on the roster.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,138 ✭✭✭arsebiscuits1

Exactly. If we're allowed reregister previously registered players then what's the harm.

There's zero chance of JJ playing where as there is a slight chance of Jordan playing.

If nothing else it might give the UBB analysts slightly more work to do which in turn might make them miss something else. Extreme edge case but these are the 1% things that teams might look for

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,374 ✭✭✭bingobango12

Yeah very true. Could be just a case of adding him as Kenny definitely isn't going to feature.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 841 ✭✭✭MangleBadger

Is Larmour not the obvious replacement for TOB? considering he plays right wing and neither Ioane or Lowe do.

What would you rather Larmour at 14 or JL/RI?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,456 ✭✭✭FtD v2

I'd rather Jimmy O'Brien on the right wing over any of the other three tbh (if TOB can't start). I think I'd prefer Ioane out there over Larmour too.

Larmour is too weak under a high ball for me, and those kind of breaking ball situations that create transition attacks are so dangerous with UBB.

Yeah we have no idea so just have to trust they're bringing him back because he's fit.

I really hope they're exaggerating TOB's injury and he's fit to play. ROG did that with Skelton that time and he was great that day.

No point speculating about whether they're fit because we don't have a clue.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 891 ✭✭✭darkened_scrum

There's no point in having an unfit player in the squad (JJ) when you can have a fit one instead (Larmour). This seems exceedingly obvious. TOB pulled out of the Ospreys game, what if he doesn't make it now and say Jimmy gets an injury in training this week?

On the Munster thread they're talking about their Heineken Cup win 20 years ago. Interesting to look back at where we were. Which is mostly in Donnybrook and the 05/06 was where they trialled a few games in the RDS for the first time. On the field we weren't up to much, after winning the first Celtic League we seemed to just be drifting. Capable of a big win but also of a bad losses.

    Spectacular jersey's though.

Seems remiss to mention that season without talking about a certain spectacular 41-35 win over the defending champions Toulouse (in Toulouse) in the quarter finals. Still to this day one of my very favourite ever Leinster wins.

We were deservedly beaten in the semi final by Munster, but two late tries put a gloss on the scoreboard for them arguably.

We finished second in the Celtic League that season (behind Ulster), and won 14/20 games. All in I think we won 19 games that year out of 27, but as you say, had some frustrating sloppy losses along the way especially in Wales. We did well in the interpros that season - winning 5/6.

We have had darker seasons though than one where we came second in the league and lost a semi in Europe (to the eventual champions).

Yeah that season was a good picture of where we were. Had great wins away to Bath and to Toulouse but then lost at home to Bath and that Munster game, to me anyway, looked from early on there's to lose. It was 3-16 at halftime. Similar to the QF loss the season before to Leicester which was also 3-16 at halftime.

Farrell initially said Baird was out for the season. 'Reoccurence' of a broken leg afaik. Players can be brought back too early, we've seen it happen many times. There is a tension between the recommendations of the medical side and the needs of the team/coach. It's a real thing.

I saw a compilation video of all Bordeaux's kicks in the semi final, absolute master class in fairness as almost each of them resulted in territory, a penalty or a score. This will come as no surprise to Leinster, and I'd be disappointed if they can't handle it given the talent and organisation of the back 3 where Keenan could be the difference. Between that and their allergy to rucks, Leinster's game plan should be clear enough. I'm fairly confident of their ability to execute that and minimise mistakes, the risk is that their discipline can't take the pressure, or that Leinster's kicking is less than perfect.

Looks like it's going to be hot on Saturday in Bilbao, 27C and sunny with a gentle breeze is what's forecast.

According to the Indo, TO'B is fit and available for the final. Henshaw is set to start as well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 891 ✭✭✭darkened_scrum

So at least one of Jimmy, Osborne, Frawley to miss out. Sam obviously to miss out as well.

Would go with Frawley and Osborne on the bench myself. Coverage for the entire backline, some positions covered a few times over.

Pisses me off really that word filters out before the announcement. I don’t think it really makes any difference and Bordeaux have their prep done but I don’t like that word has gotten around to the likes of the Indo in advance of such a massive game.

Anyway it’s brilliant if TOB is fit. I disagree with Henshaw at 12 but I have no doubt he won’t let us down, just think Osbourne will offer a bit more in attack. Henshaw Ringrose combo is probably what they are looking at which is fair enough.
