Collins is odds on to lose re-election this year.

One word of caution: she was also behind in nearly all the polls against Sarah Gideon last time.

Breaking news: CNN calls Kentucky House seat for Ed Gallerein. Another victory for Trump in rooting out critics in the GOP.

Also results coming in so far in elections for Georgia Supreme Court. Its close so far in Seat 1, but not Seat 2. The Democrat-supported by officially Independent (as all Georgia SC judges are) candidate Miracle Rankin has a shot (she is currently on 51%) of taking the first seat but its far from certain. 18% of votes in so far. There are 9 seats on the court. She is currently ahead.

Predictit.org also thinks Democrats have a shot in the governors race in November. There hasnt been a Democratic governor of Georgia (Roy Barnes) since 2003.

We were not less dependent back then. It makes up a higher percentage of FDI now than it did in 2013 but now we are in a much, much better position to handle a drop in it. In 2013, we had a €12 billion deficit and our net national debt was €174 billion which was 95% of GDP and 112% of GNI. Last year we had a €12 billion surplus and our net national debt was €138 billion which was 22% of GDP and 40% of GNI.

I mean the percentage of FDI that was from the US was much lower at 55%. My point is that it is possible to get the dependence down. I accept your point otherwise.

Edit: Dooley is the less Trumpy candidate in third place in the Georgia Republican Senatorial primary. He is supported by Governor Kemp. He got 28%. The more Trump candidate Mike Collins got 41%. Earl Carter got 28%. Its likely to go to a runoff as Georgia is one of the states where you have to get to 50% to avoid one.

Burt Jones, Trumps preferred Republican candidate for Governor of Georgia, was one of the fake-electors in 2020 according to CNN. He is currently ahead in the primary but very slightly. Its 36-34-28.The then Georgia Secretary of State from 2020 who incurred Trumps ire , Brad Raffenberger, is only on 15% the last I looked.

Based on what JD Vance said at his Press Conference today, attacking a police officer will not necessarily disqualify someone from receiving the so called compensation fund for people (effectively Trump supporters) who feel they got a raw deal from DOJ investigations under Biden.

The DOJ settlement today also bans the IRS from auditing the Trump family or pursuing them over tax,and says that this is forever.

Edit: Trump has endorsed Texas AG Ken Paxton for Texas senate race. Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) says the race will be three times more expensive with him as the candidate. Senator John Cornyn, who is running in the primary against Paxton, calls Paxton "an albatross around our necks" in the election. The Democratic candidate James Talarico is currently leading Paxton in the polls according to Harry Enten. The last election of a Democrat as Texas Senator was in 1988. In fact there hasn't been a single state-wide election of a Democrat since 1994.

Enten showing a poll of Texas Republicans. Just 9% of them say a Trump endorsement would make them less likely to vote for someone.

Paxton was impeached by the Texas House of Representatives, then not convicted in the Senate, followed by Trump successfully pressuring the State House to reverse it.

Breaking news: Several Republican Senators including Majority Leader John Thune, Rand Paul, Bill Cassidy (just defeated in Louisiana Republican primary) have come out against the so called "weaponisation fund" to compensate people Trump thinks got a raw deal from the Biden DOJ.

The people administering the money will be appointed by Acting AG Todd Blanche, and Trump will have the power to fire them. The General Counsel of the US Treasury, who was confirmed a few months ago, resigned within hours of the announcement.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune has come out against the 'anti-weaponization' settlement approved by the Justice Department. Under the deal, Trump dropped his $10 billion defamation lawsuit against the IRS in exchange for the creation of a fund channeling taxpayer money to victims of 'lawfare,' including January 6 rioters.

'Yeah, not a big fan. I'm not sure exactly how they intend to use it. But my understanding is that was just announced,' Thune told reporters. 'But yeah, I don't see a purpose for it.'

Trump also wants to appoint Kari Lake, the failed Republican gubernatorial candidate in Arizona, as Ambassador to Jamaica.

Update: Republican Bethel has overtaken Democrat candidate Miracle Rankin for Seat 1 on the Georgia Supreme Court. Its currently 53-47 with 71% counted.

NEW: A U.S. indictment of former Cuban president Raúl Castro is expected to be announced Wednesday in Miami, two federal sources familiar with the investigation tell NBC News.

Sooooo.... Another "excursion" to distract us from the Epstein files is on the cards?

Massie is gone and he was one of the most vocal supporters of investigating the Epstein files and constantly asked for more revelations. Unless the Democrats win big in the mid terms this is dead in the water.

Note that there was a 30% difference in how young people voted in the Republican primary, according to someone on CNN. Massie talking about a new "movement". Older more party-line Republicans supported Trump.

Also in the Kentucky senatorial primary, Daniel Cameron, seen as from the Establishment McConnell faction, only got 30% against Trump supporting Andy Barr.

There is proof already in the public domain that some of the TRUE ‘RED. MAGA supporters have jumped ship eg MTG. This is because they did not agree whit some of what Trump is doing eg tariffs, Iran war, Epstein files.
I suggest that ALMOST EVERY if not EVERY decision that Trump takes will cause the falling off from his support base.
Examples of Recent decisions that will cause him to lose support are:-

    (1) This 1.7 bn dollars to compensate those who were ‘unfairly treated’ after their Jan 6 th ‘ visit’ to the Capitol

    (2) the building of his ‘ballroom

    (3) Todd Blanche’s ‘EO’ absolving Trump, his family and their businesses from EVERY being examined /Sued by Inland revenue

    (4) Some decisions may be of a ‘minor nature’ but their cumulative effect could contribute to the same result

There MUST BE some of the MAGA followers that area on BALANCE MAGA followers and would not need much of a oust to ‘SWITCH SiDES’

I have regretfully come to the conclusion that the United States of America, as a democracy, is gone, dead, destroyed, by Trump and MAGA, that Trump has succeeded in making the USA the shithole of the western world, that the only way back for it is for a successful re-run of what he tried in Jan 2021 with him as the target this time with his "let them eat cake" attitude.

When he is seized and brought for trial, it must be before the public as judge, jury and executor for what he has done to their country, nation and populace. SCOTUS and the Senate mustn't be allowed guillotine justice for him. There's no real point in decrying what he has done to the world if he is allowed freedom to exist.

I am waiting for the historical moment when an American leaves the country and shows up in another country claiming political asylum. Far fetched-methinks not.

It surely cannot be legal for the IRS to promise they will not audit Trump and his family? With a different government in they could probably find a way to reverse this? Even if they passed a law making it impossible for a decision to be made to not audit someone or a business?

AI is not offering any opinions on whether this promise not to audit is legal, presumably it has never been tried before. The IRS has a a legal obligation, passed by Congress, to audit anyone/everyone's tax returns, so how has this agreement superceded a law? He (and his family and companies) is not excluded from future tax audits, but presumably they have to start from a 'day one' situation so that any billions he has now are condidered valid. Its going to make it more difficult to syphon off money from the $1.8 billion slush fund though. Maybe we will see an end to the stock market interference?

Maybe they should have said, ok we will give you the 10B provided you resign?

The number of Americans that have come here in the last two years, it's already happening.

    Just not officially.

Now that Trump cannot be audited, I fully expect him to release those tax returns

He literally did not. He did not come close to saying anything like that.

Anyone sharing that he did, or believing a twitter post fake transcript instead of watching the video, is a fundamentally unserious person and not worth paying any attention to.

    What's with

    (3) Todd Blanche’s ‘EO’ absolving Trump, his family and their businesses from EVERY being examined /Sued by Inland revenue

Surely if Trump, his family and their businesses have nothing to hide, they have nothing to fear.

It might be an interesting test case to try denying inland revenue from examining or sueing anyone under their 14th amendment rights to equal protection of the laws.

The 14th Amendment: Mandates that no state shall deny any person within its jurisdiction the "equal protection of the laws". This clause has become the bedrock of American civil rights, ensuring state governments treat individuals in similar situations fairly and equally.

Quick question - for the republicans who were primaried and beaten by MAGA people - is there a mechanism for them to run as an independent/3rd party? Mightn't do much depending on the state/district, but could it split the vote to help a Democrat win? If they are so anti-Trump, might it be worth it?

Apparently records were broken in terms of spending to unseat a Republican candidate because he tried to release the Epstein files...

I thought this was funny. Comical. But that may just be the naivety in me, that surely this is a ballsy move that not even he could get away with?

Although, I am willing to accept that he probably will.

    https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026/may/19/trump-irs-settlement-tax-returns

Addendum quietly slipped into widely criticized agreement creating a $1.7bn fund to compensate president’s allies

The justice department quietly added a provision barring the IRS from auditing Donald Trump’s tax returns on Tuesday, amending a widely criticized agreement that creates a secretive and loosely controlled $1.776bn fund to compensate allies of the president.

The addendum, signed by Todd Blanche, the acting attorney general, says the government is “forever barred” and “precluded” from examining the tax returns of Trump, his family, company and “related companies”. The agreement applies to anything filed before the agreement was reached. It was posted on the justice department website on Tuesday morning, a day after the department announced creation of the fund.

The inclusion only adds to mounting scrutiny of the wider agreement reached on Tuesday. The arrangement was announced after Trump said he was dropping a $10bn lawsuit against the IRS and other specious claims against the government in exchange for creating the compensation fund. IRS officials recommended fighting Trump’s lawsuit, the New York Times reported on Tuesday, but the agency decided to settle it anyway, raising further questions about improper interference.

What did poor old Jamaica do to deserve Kari Lake? The idea of her as a 'diplomat' is so hilarious it isn't even funny. Still, I suppose at least he didn't send her to Ukraine.

The Georgia Supreme Court results are concerning particularly as Obama had publicly endorsed at least one of the liberal candidates. They lost 51/49 and 59/41 respectively. The Governor primary turnout there was 53/47 Democrat.
