The idea that McGregor will come back firing on full cylinders and like the fighter he was 10 years ago is pure fantasy.

His poor cardio will be worse, he'll rely on landing a big shot, same as he did with Dustin and take a beating, like he did with Dustin.

They'll hype the fight as a Phoenix from the flames but the reality is, that if he fights again and I don't think he will, it'll be to work out the last 2 fights on his contract so he's free to fight exhibition fights against random YouTubers

Saying that Conor is nobody, and nobody wants to see, etc etc - All falls a bit flat when you look at the fact this the only thread in the forum with any sort of activity.

Sad state of MMA, Local scene and the death of this place

Genuine question, would anyone actually pay or even stay up to watch that fukn has-been embarrassing himself for one last pay day?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,725 ✭✭✭xtal191

No chance but there isn't a single fight I'd stay up to watch these days, unlike the mid 2000s to early 2020s

I think you have nailed it, I can't find anything interesting in the current state of MMA to be worth tuning in for.

Looks like Conor just took another loss. Settled with Artem in the high court today after Artem sued him for a cut of Proper Twelve.

To be honest, I wasn't sure how Artem was ever gonna get a good resolution here considering it was a verbal agreement, but he was celebrating leaving the court and McGregor's team thanked Lobov for his hard work for the business

Had been offered 1M previously, expected 5% (so 5M) probably got somewhere in the 3/4M range + his costs covered.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 41,300 ✭✭✭✭Mellor

Would depend on the offer whether it was a win or a loss. $5m is a loss. $2m prob a win. In the middle, probably a flip.

To be honest, I wasn't sure how Artem was ever gonna get a good resolution here considering it was a verbal agreement,

Verbal agreements are legally binding, and was some famous case where a boardroom comment about selling shares was upheld as a contract. May have been to do with a shares in Fyffes Bananas or something.

Doubt it was plus costs as it was a settlement. Would have been a number on the table.
Had it proceeded, might have been as much as $5m plus costs

    "Official"

What does that even mean any more when it comes to him

This guy has ruined his own career.
You don’t have a 2 year absence from this sport and step in with Khabib. Then he did the same again with Poirier. No activity and in with a good fighter.

Now he’s jumping in with Holloway after 5 years…

Ever heard of a tune up fight?

He'll probably pull out with some injury.

Dana announced it as Ngannou was making his ring walk

Max is washed up as well. Two has-beens.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,122 ✭✭✭EagererBeaver

Max has plenty of miles on the clock for sure. He's also been fighting at the absolute top level for the ten years in which McGregor has largely sat on his hole.

    They are not the same.

Holloway has opened 1/4, McGregor available at 3/1 - if you believe in miracles.

Here's your chance to put your money where your mouth is @walshb . I'll give you evens as promised 😁

Ya know, of all the known named fighters that Conor could fight, with the least risk in terms of them being real hitters/killers, then I’d be choosing Holloway if I was in Conor’s camp. I see no issue with Holloway starting as favorite, but Conor beating him wouldn’t at all be a shock

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 61,057 ✭✭✭✭walshb

yes, and the plenty miles on the clock might not be the advantage some think; and maybe Conor’s lack of miles could be more an advantage than Holloway’s many miles. It’s not an exact science.

Conor has accrued way way more miles on the clock over the past five years. He just hasn't gained any of them inside the cage

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,166 ✭✭✭Homelander

5 rounds at Welterweight doesn't bode well for McGregor, at all.

Holloway is not the worst matchup for him though. There was always the chance Chandler would just go full on wrestler with him, Max will stand and box.

It's surprising Conor wouldn't have pushed for something like Diaz 3 though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,704 ✭✭✭✭The Nal

Did you see Diaz the other night? An absolute punchbag.

Always has been really. Can't think of a more overrated fighter in any combat sport ever.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,645 ✭✭✭✭MrStuffins

He was absolutely disgraceful. Was uncomfortable to watch.

Conor tweeted afterwards saying "I can see why he didn't take the fight". Sounds like there were talks alright

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,166 ✭✭✭Homelander

Yeah it was shocking, he was always over-rated but at least to his credit he was very undeniably tough and game for scraps.

The version of Diaz that fought Mike Perry the other night looked like someone who walked in from the audience and gave it a shot.

Kinda glad for Perry though at the same time. He's had one hell of a resurgence since leaving the UFC.

Conor v Mike Perry wouldn't be the worst fight in the world either, if UFC brought Jeremy Stephens back I can't see why they wouldn't bring Mike Perry back even if for a once-off.

Wouldn't be so sure of that. Not at welterweight. Max has a lot of miles behind him now and has been fighting at FW a bit in the last few years. Hes hittable. Its about as good a credible fight in McGregors favour as you could get.

But yeah, McGregors pushing 38 and his only win in the last 10 years is Cerrone who everyone was KOing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 378 ✭✭GHendrix

It’s just hard to see how Conor will actually be in this fight, if it happens at all. He hasn’t fought at all in 5 years. He has one win in about 10 years. Bad leg injury in his last fight.

Even in his peak, he gassed after 8 minutes. How long does he get at 38 with years of inactivity?

If Conor has any hope here it’s in Round 1. It goes beyond that, he gasses and gets slept

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,484 ✭✭✭Gamb!t

I hope Holloway punishes him and not a quick KO.

Max does have a better lifestyle away from the ring, has been active as well and has decent wins at that.

He is hit-able for sure, I just don't see this version of McGregor being too much of a challenge.
