Fair dues to the lads today. Well in it for a long time. Some great performances, Bennett especially.

Score in no way reflects how close the game was. The 2 goals in a minute just killed us. We've actually been very competitive in every game this year. Our points tally and likely finishing bottom won't reflect that

    Just re-iterating this point again.

Fair play to the lads though some performance.

Some performance from the team for an hour today. That first Limerick goal was a carbon copy of the one we conceded against Cork. In control of it and ten seconds later its in the back of our net. 2nd goal the hurley was dropped for the final pass. Game over.

I think there's been considerable improvement from the team and management this year in terms of performance. With some new young players stepping up and hopefully more to come I feel Queally and his team deserve to get a 3rd year and one last crack at breaking this round robin hoodoo.

A lot of credit to paddy leavy today, did some job on Gillane

thats that for another year. Hard to take as felt we have performed very well in all our games and Lady Luck just hasn’t been on our side. To a man I couldn’t fault the players effort over the course of the championship and think we have seen ana big improvement from last year. Unfortunately two errors last week and this have cost us big time. Taught for the first goal we should have had a free in before limerick went down the field and scored. How the drop of the hurl for second goal was missed is beyond me. Again little things like this just haven’t gone our way this year. Word for paddy leavy aswell who gets too much criticism on here. taught he was excellent today.

there seems to be split on here about queally. Personally I think he has done enough to stay but Thats just my opinion. The players definitely seem to be playing for him aswell. Also if like most of us are thinking that joxer will most likely be the next manager that probably won’t happen for another two years so maybe best to leave queally there til then.

positve from the year is how competitive we have been and also the younger players that have come in have all done really well.
Have been saying the same the last few years but hopefully there isn’t too many retirements and most come back for one last shot (hopefully they will look at how close we are to getting out of Munster and give it another go)

Don't let the final scoreline fool you Waterford gave Limerick a game there today. In all the championship games this year you couldn't fault Waterford that much in terms of performance. They just need to unearth a few more scoring forwards to reduce some of the burden on Stephen Bennett. It's yet another round robin exit but Waterford weren't disgraced in any game this year, and they'll finally have to finally get out of the group in Munster at some point.

The lads went down fighting. Got mugged in the last 10 minutes. Honourable mention for Shane Bennett, Paddy Leavey & Mahony. Personally, I would like to see a change in Management.

A great performance today, lads gave it everything, they can't be faulted. Paddy did some job on Gillane, but that limerick bench is so strong.

I think Quelly has ran his course though. Maybe a new sports and conditioning person too, we have dropped off with 10 minutes to go in the last 2 games. I know other factors at play, but allot of hamstring problems the last 2 years. I know plenty clubs complain the players come back injured, maybe they go in injured as well.

Maybe get a Ryan in of any discription.... Jason, Pat or Michael

All I can say is fair play to the lads for the effort, but again just to highlight, and I know I live in Galway now.

17 May and no more Waterford hurling for 2026

The schools haven't even finished yet for the summer.

And most importantly , NOT ONE GAME, available to watch on free to air.( Unless I missed something?)

Some many kids not inspired for the future of the game.

.… not forgetting Callum Lyons too.

26 Points scored , a hell of an effort , limerick found a way to blow is away for the last 10 to score 35 .it is what it is , we have some small bit of a conveyor going both minor and u20 will be stronger next year and we will have more people bedded in. All we can hope for now is tipp to lose by 5 or more so we aren't last for once

Time to look forward to club championship , hopefully fixtures out soon. Double eleimination including one of the ballygunners makes for a lot of jeopardy .

We scored 9-90 in 4 games and didn't win any of them. Mad.

Ultimately though we have to be raising more white flags. Our ceiling seems to be 24 or maybe 25. We need to regularly be getting up close to the 30 point mark in games.

Even today, after a solid first half of 16 points we only got 4 in the second half. Granted it was against the wind but should be getting a good few more than that

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 41,373 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

Would include Conor Keane in the mention list for sure

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,056 ✭✭✭Dick phelan

Who would you bring in as manager? I'm not convinced changing manager is what we need.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 79 ✭✭gunners200

    thought Conor Keane was fantastic

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,860 ✭✭✭Mastermcgrath

100% agree. You have to be realistic. Yes results are what you’re judged on but also ask is there progress? Are we seeing an improvement? The answer for me is yes. Something still needs to change but Dosent necessarily need to be the management, or the manag-er. For me, Queally has credit in the bank after this campaign. Players fighting for him. We have been very close in every game. I also beleive he is the type of manager capable of looking in the mirror and seeing what changes are needed in his management team. He showed that by bringing Duck O’Rourke into the setup this year. A coach who would have different ideas to Queally of how the game should be played. For me, if Queally wants another term and has clear ideas on how he can bridge that gap of actually getting over the line in games, It would be the best decision to let him continue on for next year.

There needs to be foresight, we know we have a good u20 group coming on under Joxer, and also next years minors under Darragh O Sullivan. But taking these managers out of the system and into the senior role so soon when they’re there to do a job and develop young players could be detrimental aswell. Give all 3 of them; Queally, Joxer and DOS the time they deserve with their respective teams.

    Wouldn't say we much €€€

Prob a little bit inconvenient having 2 possible managers working with underage teams atm who are in the first of 3 year projects

Jason Ryan after winning a senior club all Ireland would be high on the list but we've in it's a big step up for club to intercounty

    Derek McGrath again ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,860 ✭✭✭Mastermcgrath

Jason Ryan? Wouldn’t be anywhere near any list

if we are so hellbent on changing management you would do well to look past Pat Bennett. Flying it with Carlow in the Joe McDonagh 4 wins out of 4. 3 sons on the Waterford panel, a man who bleeds blue of Waterford

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,970 ✭✭✭decies

right ok I accept all previous points at times we have shown great potential and skill in all games and unlucky with injuries . When we are playing well we just can’t seem to push on and put a game to bed . We have the players but we don’t have enough quality especially coming off the bench . The facts are we dropped out of 1a to me that’s important good luck with selling season tickets and didn’t win a game in Munster , if you said that at the start of season you’d say Queally is a goner . But he did get a tune out of them and he’s probably safe not to mention nobody outstanding to replace him . So we go again with a few retirements no doubt , keep bringing the players through and hope they can keep rebuilding S Bennett .

The lads did brilliantly today and again you couldn't fault the effort.

Ultimately, mistakes, mistakes, mistakes ensure we are artists of our own downfall. To only go in one point up at half time was disappointing.

Granted Limerick missed a number of points but I counted two points that we should have scored. Two points we gave away from mistakes, TDB with a poor pass out over the sideline and then poorly taken sideline.

Limericks first goal we had possession and failed to just clear our lines. The second goal, dessie got a foot on it, Jamie couldn't control it, the hand pass was poor, cool head, take a step back and mark probably gets it in his hand.

Those few instances and that is a difference of 10 points. Other sides just don't seem to make those kind of mistakes, at least the top sides.

For management, I think it's worth taking a step back and evaluating, is the current management getting all they can out of the lads. It felt like and looked like all games were there for the taking this year and we end up with one point, is it poor luck, are we just not good enough or are we not getting enough out of the lads.

Relegated from Division 1 and most likely routed to the foot of munster again despite some spirited performances.

While our scoring has been decent, we have conceded an awful lot, if we tightened up, reduced the errors and poor decision making it could have been a different year.

Plenty of discussion over the next few weeks/months, hopefully we see construction in Walsh park and we can begin to look forward to the club championship.

I think this is why, management and county board needs time to sit down, let a few weeks pass and then see what is the best approach and if we have improved or not.

We played 10 competitive games this season between league and Munster, we won 2 (Limerick and Offaly) and drew one (Tipperary).

We were competitive in Munster but fell short in each game, and we need to see why that is, and can the current management overcome that or is change needed.

I agree, I find it hard to see who else we could bring in at this point in time.

Without dragging up past appointments it is now as clear as ever that appointing Davy after Cahill was probably one of the worst decisions that the county board ever made, and now it's why thought and time needs to be given, in order to make the best decisions for now and into the future.

For all of the talk of missing players in the defence you would forget we were without Patrick Fitz for the entire year.

Just back, absolutely sick. We just can't at any time get any bit of luck. Both Limerick goals could have easily been called for fouls. We NEVER seem to get those calls. And as usual we gift the opposition a handful of scores from silly stupid avoidable mistakes. DeBurca today must have handed Limerick 4 points from just sloppy play. Easily his worst performance in a waterford jersey. Stephen Bennett a huge loss today. Overall in all game we hurled well but are just missing that bit of cutting edge other teams have. At 10 to 15 in the first half we were in a good position but our intensity dropped as it seems to do for periods and that was crucial. Limerick were out of sorts at that point but we left them in it. Crontrast that to Clare last night where they 'smelled blood' as Cahill put it. Thats the mentality you need to progress, unfortunately despite playing well at times we make too many mistakes and lack a winners mentality. With a few probably stepping away next year its hard to be positive about the future. I stopped for a cup of tea on the way home and a guy came in beside me at the machine. "They'd break your f=/king heart" he said. Seems that's my sentiment too often after Waterford games. But I'll be there again next year like the delusional fool I am.

very disappointing for so many reasons. Limerick were there for the taking today, I’m just not sure the players thought it. We went 15 mins without scoring, then banged over 1-2, then the wheels came off again. We could and should have put real daylight between the two teams but it just didn’t happen.

Queally absolutely deserves another year at least. Tighten up on a few things and I think we have a good chance at getting out of Munster next year.

I'd say Jason is probably top of the list.

Previous inter county experience (and success) as the top man at Wexford and Kildare in football, Involved with Wexford hurling last year.

Went into Ballygunner last year, did the business. Didn't try and force a system in, tailored one to the players he had.

Pragmatic, you can put him in front of a microphone, and most importantly for the county board, he probably represents value for money.

The white of waterford… this blue and white nonsense needs to be nipped in the bud ,that's laois and Monaghan

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,093 ✭✭✭Asdfgh2020

it’s blue and white and has been for decades. Kildare are the only fully white county…… thankfully in the early 2000’s under Justin McCarthy (I think) shorts were changed to blue, looking at old footage the all white strip looked awful

re Future of Peter Queally I’d say it will be up to him. Doubt there will be many queuing up to take job. Of those mentioned Jason Ryan would probably be the best…..bring in some of last years minors such as Spain 🇪🇸 ( he could be our long term replacement for bennett up front) etc…..unfortunately though it will be a few years yet before we ‘get out of Munster’ really need to back up last years minors such with a couple u20’s all Ireland’s…

Unless Queally leaves of his own accord I don’t see the merit in getting rid of him unless you had a really strong and obvious candidate waiting in the wings to replace him. I certainly wouldn’t have Jason Ryan in that category
