    #MEGA MAKE EUROPE GREAT AGAIN

There’s TONS of old Parkinson’s - usually shown on BBC4 on Saturday nights - I’ve watched dozens of hours of it at this stage. They also show Wogan shows from the 80s too

    If you insist.

Whereas I'd be more "let's have a coffee and talk about it".

Trust me, they wouldn't listen even if you got the opportunity. D4bres offered to have a tea with me but she backed out in the end, not surprising really.

    ______

In the end they were just greedy, they all knew one another and knew what to expect more money for no return, it was a secure cash flow, but in fairness they looked for what they wanted and fair dues to them for that, and wouldn't you be doing the same!

Just one more thing .... when did they return that car

Maybe she heard about your killer instinct.

Could have all worked out though but we'll never know.

Indeed if only she'd keep her promise, she might not be sick today.

She also killed off a re run of "the den" even though it was a huge success during covid and people were crying out for it to come back. However TG4 did re show the "Irish RM " not that long ago, maybe that is the route to crack open the RTE archive?

BBC 4 is a sore spot for me. I think it’s a travesty what has become of it, having once been, surely, one of the most cultured channels in the world. Now it’s just repeats, and often not very good repeats. I was doubly annoyed that when they got Bryan Magee’s stupendous philosophy conversations out of the cupboard, they put them on after midnight. What a waste.

I think if RTE is going to revive some of its old programmes, it should do them the respect of broadcasting them at a sensible hour. But your point about getting the audience used to them is well made. It might take years before the public finally bites.

This might sound perverse, but even if I didn’t ever watch them, my esteem for RTE would increase. It would add to the depth of flavour, so to speak.

Irish RM was produced for Channel 4 by RTÉ and UTV.

Re: BBC4 about a decade ago BBC decided to cut its funding, so it does get as many original productions.

They still have a plan to move it to digital only even though observers point out it makes more sense for BBC3 to be digital as it is targeted at digital generation.

There is a three or four part series about the old adverts out there somewhere. I can't remember if it was on RTE or TG4 though. It might be in one of the Players.

I remember posting about it when it was aired a couple of years ago but I can't remember what it was called.

Is this what you're thinking about ?

    It's on the IFI site.

No. I've actually just found it. It's called Fadó Fadó and still on TG4 Player.

Just had a survey about what's good/bad/what needs changing etc on the LLS. Presumably commissioned by RTE.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,261 ✭✭✭techman1

How was survey carried out, were you just randomly rung up by a polling company or something?

Patrick kielty still has not signed a new contract for late late, media speculating again about possible replacement, clare byrne still earned more than him though and they paid her for extra 2 months she didnt work as it was still her contract. However she retired she offered to work her contract to finish but they declined, strange?

And Dee wanted more money for the licence???🤔

They wanted to launch the new schedule with David McCullagh.

Claire Byrne finished up on October 31 and he started on November 10.

Does really make what they did right? They could have easily offered Claire a Podcast to finish up with them, or move her to a different time slot until the end of her contract.

I was just explaining what happened to the other poster.

Not really sure myself if they were right.

I also don't know if there was any discussion around a podcast.

    Always good to explain.

    I'd say they were wrong.

I'd say they didn't think about it, like always!

They didn’t want to give their soon-to-be competitor a boost. The fact that you hadn’t heard from Clare Byrne for a while before she popped up on Newstalk definitely lessened her impact.

No, it's one of the companies I regularly answer surveys for.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,032 ✭✭✭✭mickdw

They could have kept her working and produced some heap of dung something like the quiz show she presented. That would do every but give her a boost.

I don't really understand why BK4 wants to show his hand. On several occasions he's said he want to bring back PK. Now TBH because there is no one really that RTÉ has to replace PK with, except the usual heads that have been on the air for over a decade.

It looks to me like he present 30 normal shows including The Toy Show, and also the NYE show, 31 each season in total.

And some of the potential replacements like oliver callan are engulfed in the payments scandals themselves now. I wonder are some of the politicians that are friendly with some of the people in RTE delaying giving Bakhurst his payrise also trying to scupper the P Kielty renewed contract aswell. There seems to be an underhand campaign in irish media to try and scupper Kielty getting a new contract. Alot of people in irish media don't like that he is not one of them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,145 ✭✭✭RoTelly

What annoys be about the Oliver Callan issue is that it was raised before by RTÉ and by many on here before RTÉ I will give 4 examples including Oliver

    1. Kathryn Thomas: In one year she presented, The Voice, Ireland's Fittest Family and Operation Transformation, not on the top ten.
    2. Daithi O'Se: Presents the Today Show and Seal Le Daith produced by an Indo producer for RTÉ for TG4, and potential The Rose of Tralee (is he paid by the festival?)
    3. Oliver Callan: Presents his radio show (not on this years list or last years), but also produces Callan Kicks for Radio 1 and the TV version which is produced by a separate TV production company.
    4. Another example is Jenny Z, she presented mid-mornings on 2FM and also DWTS.

What I thought was funny about the committee meeting was that both KB4 and his Deputy said that only Marty Morrissey and Des Cahill were RTÉ presenters on Dancing with the Stars AKA Dancing with the Canteen.

Also why does it only publish the "top 10" salaries, why not the top 50, that would eliminate all this manouvering of roles to stay out of top 10, of course it would then migrate down to the lower ranks of the pay scale, but it would show who is getting all the money including behind the scenes bureacrats. They be like the Azamat guy from the borat movie, when they were doing all the chat shows afterwards he was always in the green room (behind the scenes) but then when the camera moves to him in the green room he gestures with his hands to move away back to Borat (all in character) , it was hilariously funny though

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,145 ✭✭✭RoTelly

I suppose initially there was interest in the top 10, through out the 90s there were rumours that Gay Byrne was earning massive money £500k +, so the top ten was agreed.

Really RTÉ should have proper wage / salary bands.

E.g. Presenter Grade 1 - non-peak (Daytime TV & Evenings Radio), Continuity, Children's, Lyric FM, RnaG

Presenter Grade 2 - Newsreader bulletins TV and Radio, News Anchors (RnaG, TG4, Weekends)

Presenter Grade 3 - News Anchors TV and Radio, Current Affairs, entertainment Peak viewing and listening

Presenter Grade 4 - Entertainment TV (e.g. TLLS, prime time chat shows) Very rare and depending on popularity

I know this will upset the Irish language crowd but that is how it is.

What is this campaign to get miriam o callaghan to host LLS now. There is definitely a campaign going on in media land to push out patrick kielty and not wait for negotiations. Miriam would be the ultimate RTE and media insider but a terrible choice. She is too old and over exposed ,maybe 20 years ago she would have been more suitable. Of the RTE insiders probably only oliver callan could be credible.
