it’s also uneccessary. An amateur sport, not-for-profit organisation and not like the GAA are hard up for cash

So what’s the view on sunday. Go all out for a win and pray other results go our way for 3 pts to be enough to finish in the top 3 or just go though the motions, throw in a few new players to give them big game experience and take the usual 8-10 pts defeat to LK. Will Queally stay on / be given another year…?

McGrath got dogs abuse for zonal marking and using a sweeper, things that are completely normal now. Clearly he had a clue ,if he had won an all Ireland he would be hailed a genius, but he lost that match by 4 on a day where everything Galway hit went over the bar .

Think the lads have enough pride to go out strong, this year is gone, but they have to find a way to beat these teams, so may as well use the opportunity to push themselves, they will have a nice long break before club season starts

Do you not think if we beat limerick (unlikely but in our control) that its quite plausible we will finish 3rd? Tipp to beat Clare is the big 1 we need to happen after that we want a Cork win over Clare and a Limerick win over Tipp. Both more likely to happen than not.

Comes down to scoring difference between us and Tipp then. We have to beat Limerick at some stage!

Edit: Also a chance if Clare bet Tipp and we beat Limerick. A Tipp win over Limerick would knock Limerick out. Score difference then will determine 3rd between us and Tipp. Certainly not over.

Loads of open-stand tickets for the Limerick match on ticketmaster now

And the two ends of the covered stand as well

Go and win it and see what happens. Even if we don't advance to the AI series and win in Limerick would be a huge moral win, that could be brought into next season.

    Any word on Bennetts injury

nothing confirmed but given he was on crutches 🩼 on Saturday I’d imagine it’s ‘curtains’ for him for rest of the season…? Throw in Ozzie in his place and see how it goes.

Waterford haven't beaten Limerick in the championship since 2011, so why wouldn't you want to try and win? Especially when there's still a slim chance of finishing third in the group.

You seem very nice but it's like your coming on here every game to big us before we inevitably fail :D.

Stranger things have happened but Jesus I cannot see us beating Limerick.

8s on Waterford? Generous donation to the bookmakers. They’ll appreciate the contribution 😂

Well we did beat Tipp in 2023 when nobody gave us a chance but tbh Limerick at home for the first time in the Championship with a full panel is a different beast

    thanks @seananigans

one thing I am interested to see is who in our forwards will step up without Stephen Bennett there

Best of luck to the lads. It could be the last time we see one or two in a Waterford jersey. I imagine a small crowd will travel but I hope those who do make themselves heard and have something to shout for.

Match not selling too well in Limerick either apparently.

Listening to the excellent LimerIck hurling pod earlier too, they were saying Waterford will already be out if Clare beat Tipp on Saturday. Of course this assumes Limerick are already through with Cork and that Clare would join them by getting to 4 points and forgets that Limerick could be the fall guys still in that scenario (highly unlikely but technically possible). Ye need to hope the Limerick set up are equally presumptuous - but after Dublin last year it’s unlikely…

But that said, if Clare don’t win and ye do beat Limerick then ye will go through (at Clare and Tipps expense) Id say - so keep the faith!

Took me a few days to even think about this game at the weekend just disapppinted at another sorry round round robin campaign. so basically we’re hoping Tipp win tomorrow night to still give us some glimmer of hope going in to Sunday. If Clare win and it’s out out of our hands even more so. This draw is working out so well for Limerick they could have their 2 home games against 2 teams effectively as good as out, as if they needed the luck. My fear is that the lads have emptied themselves in the first 3 games. Sometimes it’s nearly easier to pick yourself up after shipping a couple of heavy defeats with pride hurting rather than the deflation of having just fell short.

It’s good to see Tadgh getting a start its a pity we didn’t see Aussie in aswell. Maybe the result on Saturday night might entice a few more changes with little or nothing to lose. One silver lining with Bennett’s injury at least Rueben Halloran will finally get his chance I think he’s an absolutely superb free taker and can put it over from any distance.

Jack Fagan ending up as corner back and Leavy at 6 really highlights the lack of depth in our panel (or the lack of trust in it).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 79 ✭✭gunners200

ye I thought Conor Keane did very well when he came on and is a proper corner back , obviously doesn’t trust him maybe.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,860 ✭✭✭Mastermcgrath

I don’t see the team starting like that for what it’s worth, but with Kenny out we’re lacking experience in the full back line especially with Gillane back and Bull O Brien in hot form. I wonder will we see Fagan go to full back personally I think this Mark Fitzgerald experiment is over 3 black cards tells you all you need to know whatever way you look at it it’s not his natural position and needed out the field.

Despite all that unfolded and everything that has been written since, we were still only 4 pts off Cork last Sunday.

    Sunday

    Not looking good.

Can only think that Jack Fagan at corner back is some kind of man marking plan. Gillane??

Can't figure what Darragh Lyons did to have him so much out of favour.

    Is Peter Hogan injured?

What's the point of having Aussie in the panel at all?

If Waterford go with that half back line as named, Limerick will break all scoring records on Sunday.

Stephen was certainly having the season of his life and I wish him a good and speedy recovery.

Think they all stood up somewhat, especially Walsh and Mahony. Little mention also of Dessie, with no proven free taker on the field, stepping in with seven arrows and zero misses.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,039 ✭✭✭Deiseen

4 points with the 2 black cards and all the injuries. Of all the games we should have gotten over the line but didn't, this wasn't one of them.

    It was an impossible task.

so bar a miracle or a limerick like performance like they had against Dublin last year whats the result likely to be…? Hard to see past a 6-10 pt defeat…? Of course I hope I’m wrong

I hope the players and management are approaching the game in a slightly more positive manner.
