My best day since the install last July. The big spike at 06:35 is the electric shower. Main import is the battery charge from 02:00 to 04:00
Already in credit on my last bill 15 Mar to 15 Apr

God damn it!!! Equalled my best day ever (5 years) 44.7 kWh.... Fecking clouds messed it all up around 4pm.. Reckon I could have got another 2+kWh and got a new record… The cold northern breeze kept the panels cool so they were working a very high efficiency.

Sadly Dublin was very intermittent all day.

Tomorrow looks like more of the same from the forecast.

41.4kwh today north of Sligo town..my best days solar generation since install of our 14 panel 5.6KWp system in Jan 2023. Best day up till now was 20th April in that 1st year when our install generated 40.8kwh.

How is everyone doing compared to last May, I'm 30% down compared to the same point last May

Should be decent today, forecasting 50kwh in Cork.

Would not compare too much to May 2025... That was by in far the best month for PV in 5 years for me (and for everyone else)…it was unreal.

Where do people get their solar forecasts from? I'm still interpreting the cloud and suns icons on the BBC.

I’ll put myself in the same club as you so.

I downloaded and app previously that was about as accurate as an inflatable dart

I get mine from Solcast, inputs data directly to Home Assistant.

Solcast reckons that tomorrow will have 15% more sunshine in South Kilkenny than today.

I got 43 kWh from a 9.9 kWp S/W system today and left a few kWh behind by not having the battery at a lower SoC early in the day.

    image.png

Hopefully if tomorrow turns out as good as projected I'll see my first measured 50+ kWh day tomorrow.

The system was installed a couple of weeks ago but I only got the data logger connected on Saturday.

During the summer months I don't charge the battery from the PV (well if it goes below 60% it will) as its more efficient to export to the grid and get FIT payments. Going in and out of the battery you loose a few percent with all the conversion losses. Depends on your inverter setup you have, you might have a DC coupled system so it might not be that much so wouldn't worry about it.

But I have an AC inverter and I have to convert the PV panels DC to AC then AC to DC into the battery and then DC back to AC out of the battery so it can be up to 10-15% lost which adds up

The basic principle remains the same try and keep the conversions down to a minimum. Firstly make sure you have enough battery or PV to cover your day energy costs then export as much as possible to build up credit in your electricity account for the winter months.

If you have a DC couple system like the Sigenergy then its only around 2%, but it you have a AC coupled battery then it could be 10-15% so you need to be careful with the conversion losses

We've a hybrid inverter and I thought that when in Feed In Priority mode any excess power above 5 kW would get dumped into the battery. Since both the panels and battery are on the DC side the losses should be fairly small?

Ah ok, that sounds good, I have a bit of an odd setup and i have to be extra careful and can loose a lot if I do too many converstions

Close but no cigar, 48 kWh today. At least I managed to avoid clipping. I also learned that even if you have 10kWp of panels, the max power a Solis S5 can handle is 8.2 kW

But the 10kWp of panels allows you to get to 8.2 much quicker , They also are great on duller days where you generate double someone with 5kWp of panels.

despite the dull at times weather,am approaching 900kwh on my 15kw system for May already,so very likely to breach last month’s 1.2 megawatts given the weekend and next week’s forecast?

Just managed to avoid clipping yesterday and got the 50+.

    image.png

Battery at 15% mid-morning today so not much more I can do, but I expect to get clipped by mid-afternoon.

    [Update]
Got further than I expected and was 17:30 before battery was full and suffered a little clipping for 45 mins. 62.2 kWh today from 9.87 kWp S/W.

battery was full. No where for the the over 5.5 to

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,856 ✭✭✭bullit_dodger

On sunny days like yesterday/today and the next 2-3, you might consider if possible to set your battery charging from 11am onwards. No sense in filling it with power when your not clipping (or perhaps your already doing this?)

battery is empty in morning. Nothing is going to it until solar is over 5.5 around half ten. When it's full around 4 there's no chance to discharge to make space as still over 5.5
