Chippy, how did your friend get on for their second interview back in march. Were both interviews with different ranks? Have they heard anything since

he’s in the prison service now . he did not hear anything back

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 107 ✭✭LittleMissSunshine

In situations like that , did they remove from the competition, or is it continued radio silence. I imagine it's a similar story for many of the candidates where life moves on and they can no longer continue within the process , would explain much of the 90% that are no longer in competition

Ya i guess people after 2 years and no updates just get on with life .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 107 ✭✭LittleMissSunshine

Ya I think the silence on this forum, with alot of the posters having now deleted accounts, suggests many pulled the plug.

If anyone does wish to share their competition journey announmously, please do

*Are you still in the competition

*Have you had station interview, if so, how did it go, have you heard anything since

Once that recommendation goes back to vetting, there's nothing more locally, it's back to the national waiting game

is vetting completed at that point l

    Hi!

Applied like most others in 2024,

*Are you still in the competition - 2 years on, life changed, got my dream job, the grá to becoming a reserve with AGS is not the same as before, mostly because the lack of correspondence and the waiting in vetting, not fair on volunteers who want to give back to their communities giving up their free time. After that interview/ medical completed, Vetting was submitted (after a few weeks, had to provide affidavit too) January 2025

*Have you had station interview, if so, how did it go, have you heard anything since

Had my station interview last June/july 2025 , spoke with a senior guard in the station, general chat about my job, what I do, my current experience, spoke about how I volunteered all my all with voluntary agencies and like helping people, and didn’t ask too many questions on vetting, just general questions about family and what they do for work etc

it went fine I found and nothing but silence since, my OOM originally was in the top 80 but honestly don’t think OOM means anything, my last contact from HQ was end of last year I emailed for an update and I got that generic response vetting still ongoing etc. so I’m going to continue to keep doing what I’m doing, and forget about it, I keep an eye on this forum tho for updates with everyone else in the same boat, does everyone else still have the want to go for it still regardless of lack of communication/ correspondence?

*** also I’m not in Dublin. I’m in the south of the country so I think we’re not as priority unfortunately

Thanks to the update Cool guy, regrettably your story resonates with rest of us, your not alone. Your dates align closely with many people here , haven't heard a thing. I don't believe location comes into it, they have only called forward 31 candidates since 2024. I'm proud of my OOM, worked hard in early rounds

Although, something back in may/June 2025 triggered station interviews whether that was OOM, or provisional vetting clearance, who knows. My understanding is that station interview is likely towards the end of vetting, but the station report needs to go from local station to district HQ for the super, then back to GNVB

Frustratingly, I saw somewhere, might have been Oireachtas debates earlier in year that AGS are looking to engage with public jobs to kick off another reserve competition.

I don't see how the projected reserve training intake for 2026 can be fulfilled at this rate, Oireachtas answers have advised close to 200 of the 1800 applications remain in vetting, for one reason or another, 90% are now not in consideration

You think people that are unsuccessful would be contacted so at least they know.

    people have ??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 107 ✭✭LittleMissSunshine

We have to assume that if people dont reach the required levels of the various aspects of selection, regret communication is given to them

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28 Eir2024

I was told they do reach out if unsuccessful

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 107 ✭✭LittleMissSunshine

Yeah would think that aswell, with the amount of applications across reserves and full time, you would assume if someone is no longer under consideration, they are told as such to remove them from further administrative investment

I see quite a number of invites have gone out this week for the next full time trainee class in July, might suggest there is no reserve intake between now and July

probably don’t have the staff to train people it’s class after class with the full time

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 107 ✭✭LittleMissSunshine

Yeah I get that, I definitely do, they have to be the priority, 1800 candidates entering a reserve competition takes a substantial amount of administrative man hours which is for nothing unless the competition works it's way through

i think years ago they just stoped after everyone had vetted and medical ect done . i see on a old form on this .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 107 ✭✭LittleMissSunshine

Yeah I do know a good few years ago they pulled a reserve competition

But, my gut tells me that won't happen, reasoning being that we have seen publicly that AGS have started talking to PJ about another reserve competition, would make no sense to void 200+ candidates at round 3 to start over with a new candidate pool back at round 1. I imagine most likely they won't fill quotas with the 2024 candidate pool and need to go again

In all likelihood, although it has been agonisingly slow, when it does move, alot may happen all at the same time

Have you ever thought of the full time position. your ovs care a lot

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 107 ✭✭LittleMissSunshine

Thanks Chippy, I truly do, love supporting the community. I would be interested in spending a few years within the reserves , and in time, looking at the transfer stream to full time. But the recruitment experience has left a little to be desired. I guess we'll have to see what happens.

you should go for the prison service it’s rewarding and challenging

    Dawn of a new day

A new full time recruitment competition opens. Now, if they only got round to us reserve candidates 🙊

On a serious note, might be something to consider for those waiting in limbo here

A friend of mine, in AGS in Cork County has told me there is a new Reserve Recruitment Campaign due to start some stage this year. Saw a few of your guys mention this also.

My question, with what looks like a-lot of folk in limbo and patiently waiting from the last campaign, why start a new one?
