How would anyone know there are among the the ones in the vetting.

With an acknowledgement that there is 228 candidates currently in the Vetting phase, if you have attended medical and/or local station interview and haven't been rejected or invited to training, mathematically you are one of those 228 people

That's great, I suspect the reserves are on the back burner on account of getting as many recruits through to the college

Anyone still think end of May a realistic start date for the next GR intake?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 107 ✭✭LittleMissSunshine

It's hard to say for sure, especially since no official intake dates have been circulated to candidates yet. (To my knowledge)

Once a date is confirmed, We've seen before that things usually move quickly and likely continue filling places right up to the start date as more people clear vetting.

Absolutely, with the next trainee class following today not until July, I believe, maybe there is an opportunity reserve candidates are progressed , fingers crossed 🤞

Thanks, Little Miss! My application is still there, probably hanging by the smallest thread. I'm half afraid to put up a comment here in case I get eaten alive! ;) But here goes….

Regarding the medical, I think that, and I may be wrong. Still, there is evidence to prove this (not motivated to go looking for it) that once a medical exam, for AGS, is gone over a year, an applicant has to either submit an updated letter from their GP stating that they have no new medical conditions and that they are still 'fit' to go, or they have to get a repeat full medical, and look I can understand this is ressonable given the probable physical challenges of the work.

In my case, a repeat full medical will put me on very thin ice, as I think I barely made it over the line on the initial medical (I barely made it regarding eyesight and hearing and I don't believe either has inproved since, i fear) I would imagine that a repeat medical for some people could be challenging, too, regarding the reserve; the age profile is higher, and therefore, passing a medical can be somewhat more difficult. Personally, I'm starting to think it just wasn't meant to be for me (I was always just barely over the age limit, just over 26, 35 and then 50, every time it was raised for full-time. The reserves were my last chance).

Heading for 2 years now since my own application, and not a peep. I've not even had a 'station' interview. So much time and effort went into applying (like everyone here). I think that, officially, around 1% (or less, if possible) of the 1,800 applicants have been attested since the 2024 campaign started. It's just not a priority for AGS, and that's such a shame, so much talent, motivation and experience gone. Given how things are going, they will definitely have to launch a new campaign, as it's VERY unlikely they will get 200-300 reserves from the 2024 campaign.

Best wishes to you, Little Miss, and everyone here with their applications.

I truly hope it works out for you Dex. And hope you get that station interview scheduled, I wouldn't stress it, some have station interview done, some don't, but noone is any more in the know

My understanding is that under the rules, CMO has the final say. Because the delay is administrative, I would think a Health Declaration (where you sign to say nothing has changed) over a full repeat medical because it’s faster and cheaper

Unlikely to be asked for the medical update until the Security Clearance is done. There’s no point in "refreshing" a medical if the vetting is still pending.

Hi LMS, thanks for your reply and encouragement. Yes, until the security clearance is done (whenever that will be!!) I won't expect a + or - regarding the medical, depending on how much time has elapsed since the initial medical exam.

I suspect your right, without giving to much away, was your OOM entering stage 3 high? I was under the impression that the OOM had no bearing on vetting, but was thinking just now if this had any bearing on your station interview call 🤙

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26 DexMil26

My OOM wasn't high, but it may have come down quite a bit with all the people I suspect have dropped out, lost interest, failed medical, etc., e.g., if my OOM was initially 500, now it is 200?

I don't think OOM had a bearing on vetting? They started vetting everyone who got through the initial stage?? I don't think they'd call me for a station interview now until my vetting is cleared or a few things are ironed out.

I would surmise that they initially issued station interviews to a designated group (the top 300-400)??

After contacting a local TD about the recruitment and vetting issues, they asked a parliamentary question as to why reserve applicants, volunteering their time, should be at a financial loss as part of the process if they require an affidavit for vetting.

Unfortunately, for some reason, the Ceann Comhairle would not allow the question. On contacting AGS directly, the TD received the following, complete response-

“There is no financial support available from An Garda Síochána in respect of any aspect of those seeking recruitment in the selection stage of the process.”

So that's me officially out, despite being an attested member already, because I can't afford to complete the vetting.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 107 ✭✭LittleMissSunshine

Hi Baldshin, thanks for the update. I appreciate the point on professional fees—while we were aware of those from Stage 1, it’s certainly not ideal.

For me, the biggest hurdle is the time investment. Between the application, interviews, and following up, it really adds up. As they say, money comes and goes, but you can't get time back.

On the vetting side, I’m curious—how are you already attested if your reserve vetting is still open? Are you currently (or were you previously) a full-time member moving over?

It's a shame the financial side has ruled you out, but wouldn't the affidavit have been required back when the vetting forms were due in 2024, or have they very late in the day asked you to supply one? Hope it all works out for you in the end."

I am a former member, left in 2018. The vetting has changed in the meantime and they need information from prior to when I was a member which I can't supply. Currently a stay at home parent with zero income or support so can't afford to invest in what is a voluntary role unfortunately.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 107 ✭✭LittleMissSunshine

Absolutely understand, very sorry to hear that Baldshin, sounds like with your previous full time role, you would have been a remarkable addition to the reserve ranks.

Sounds like vetting only just recently asked you to cover that knowledge gap with an affidavit, which in itself I'm sure is frustrating considering time that has already passed

Have you already attended station interview?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,464 ✭✭✭baldshin

No station interview yet, I assume as vetting is not complete.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 107 ✭✭LittleMissSunshine

Yeah, it’s a bit of a 'black box' as to exactly where the station interview fits into the overall timeline.

We’re all technically 'in vetting,' yet some had interviews done last year, while others are still waiting. It suggests the station interview is triggered by some event within the Garda National Vetting Bureau

My understanding is that whoever conducts your local station interview, the final report flows up to District HQ for Superintendent who ultimately has to sign off

you should see the carparks of the college in the morning and more cars double parked.

probably have no time for any extra class training groups

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 107 ✭✭LittleMissSunshine

A full time class went in this week, and invites have started for next full time in July. We might see some movement in the meantime

Were any cars clamped, or get a parking ticket? ;-)
