Are you currently exporting solar for microgeneration?

Have a look at your figures, makes no sense for me to charge via solar personally as i get 18.5c for export and charge overnight at a cheaper rate. If and when the 2 rates get closer I will certainly divert solar to the car.

I know I shouldn't be answering as I do not know the answer but I'm pretty sure chatgpt is right about the chargers.

Why are you asking Chatgpt anything? Jesus wept.

Tesla doesn't handle the trade ins, they drive them round the back of the delivery yard and the bidder from Tradebid.ie comes and picks it up and drives away - doing whatever they like with the car, Tesla doesn't care, it's not them giving you any cash for it.

    Junker bought for 300.

3500 trade-in bonus unlocked (Customer gets new discounted car, Tesla gets a hassle-free sale)

    Tradebid.ie offers 100

Trader scraps for 250 (trader pockets 150 for an hours work).

Everybody in the chain gets something - customer, Tesla, and trade buyer.

The purpose of the trade-in booster was to get quality used Tesla stock flowing into the used market. They accepted that a small percentage of buyers would go down the route above and were happy to allow it, knowing that at least they would get a fresh sale out of the transaction at a minimum, however the majority of buyers would trade in their existing Tesla and go for a new model.

I understand that the Tesla charger is not solar compatible but someone with more knowledge might confirm (I use an OHME).

On a separate note, you'll save money by charging your car on a low night rate (our rate is 9c per kw from 2am to 5am) and selling excess power back to the grid during the summer. You'll sell it back for more than you'll pay for the night rate.

Just charge on night rate and sell your solar to the grid. It doesn't make financial sense to put it into the car!

If it's the eco aspect you are trying to satisfy, it just feels like it's more sustainable to charge your car on solar, but in terms of sustainability it's the same, you are still generating renewable energy and displacing that amount of kWh from other sources on the grid, whether you use or export.

    😂

We (the public) can do it online now too but both seller and buyer need a MyGov account for it to work.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,062 ✭✭✭MojoMaker

Yes and have done, it's brilliant.

You get an accurate timestamp too, if there's any debate about when it was done for tolls or speeding fines etc 😅

So would it better to go with Tesla wall charger?

    What advantage does it offer?

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 42,579 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gumbo

No. It doesn’t qualify for grant if that’s the route you’re going.

It’s good in that it has a built in button for opening the charge port but it’s just another socket. They are all the same. Go with the best value to you.

I have a Zappi, latest seems fine over the last 3 years but had problems with the previous two.

If (when) I was going again I would get the cheapest dumb one. Don't need for solar anymore as simpler and makes more economic sense to export. Never use timers etc as car ones are superior.

There are often unused Tesla chargers for sale either here or on Tesla facebook, often at a good price due to the seller cashing in their Green Shield stamps..😁

Apologies to those not old enough to understand..

It does qualify for the grant. I got one a couple of months ago and received the €300 grant back approx 4 weeks after install.

So far it's great although I cannot speak to the solar stuff that was queried, I understand that there is a software update coming soon that will unlock further smart features.

But if Zappi or I assume others can accommodate solar charging already why would I get the Tesla wall charger?

Does it display any more or better data?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 114 ✭✭gfog

Not that I am aware of - I like the integration and the fact that it is all in one app.

We placed an order on 30-Mar and it was not an inventory vehicle. However, I placed a second order for an Inventory car and was later told by sales person that both are on the same ship, so I suppose there's no such thing as Inventory anymore as Tesla's new strategy is to list all cars as Inventory which are In transit.

Any cancellations would be re-allocated and you may get it a bit sooner. Did you get a VIN Number? If yes then there's a possibility to track the ship transporting your car.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,062 ✭✭✭MojoMaker

That's always been the case with Tesla. Inventory cars are unsold/unallocated vehicles on the way to the location.

When they land there will definitely be a few "changed my mind" purchasers, which I suppose will turn into genuine inventory.

I ordered on March 31st and have my car nearly 2 weeks now.

Thanks for the info, No I have not received a VIN yet so I'm still waiting, Fingers crossed it will show up on the app soon.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,352 ✭✭✭Sleamhain

I think it depends on the timing though, I ordered an inventory car a few years ago, and got a message to collect it a day or two later.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 768 ✭✭✭Anois_

No they are NOW listing cars as in inventory but are not in the country. In the past they only actually listed cars that were already here.

You can understand it I guess. They would prefer all their cars sold and ideally paid for by the time they arrive at the vehicle yard.

I have a VIN but just got reminder today to update the trade in section.

The finance section still lists outstanding for me to accept terms but it shows price applicable as of March not the April offer. I was told I could switch to current offer. Tesla previously said to ring finance one but I hear back from them by email. They just say they are awaiting the invoice from Tesla for all to be updated. I rang Tesla again and the guy seemed quite unsure but said I could click on accept terms. I'm weary of doing that as price is showing the higher price is still showing the higher price that does not include €2k trade in.

I'm assuming once it's due to arrive they will be in touch further.

    Any

Any idea what I can expect to pay all in to Tesla wall connector including installation?

I understand no SEAI grant is available but it is listed at €535 on Tesla website.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 430 ✭✭SummerK

Can you combine 0.99% pcp/hp along with 2k trade-in bonus? I was told I cannot when I had asked the sales team.

I remember reading that Tesla wall charger is now approved for seai grant. Suggest checking with the sales team.

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 42,579 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gumbo

somebody posted yesterday that the grant is payable. I don’t believe it is, or at least it definitely wasn’t.

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 42,579 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gumbo

They were also supposed to be adding a module some years back to integrate the older gen’s with solar.

I wasn't aware the charger now gets the grant. Thats a recent change.

No, the trade in booster is for "cash" sales only unfortunately.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,377 ✭✭✭lightspeed

No that was the Jan to March quarterly offer that if buying in cash you get €3500 trade booster.

The current offer now since first of April is you get €2000 trade booster in addition to finance rate of 0.99% for standard model 3 or 1.99% for long range. I confirmed this with them several times which is why I don't want to click accept terms as I want to be sure final price including balloon payment includes the 2k booster.

I was told when I placed the deposit on March 25th I could avail of whatever the April to June quarterly rate and trade booster would be applied if it was more favourable.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,377 ✭✭✭lightspeed

Yes that is exactly the current offer if you place a deposit from now up to end of June. €2k trade bonus AND 0.99% PCP rate for standard, 1.99% for long range. This applies to both Model 3 and Model Y.

It can be any heap of junk but needs to have at least 1 month of NCT.

I have to ask them if you can take the tax disc out. I would assume probably not but hoping otherwise as my trade will surely be scrapped. I have near 6 months of tax as paid for the year. I think you can get a refund for unused portion if you post back the disk of a scrapped car.
