People who still say "TV3" have inspired me to still say "Quinnsworth" instead of Tesco.

Not sure if you’re writing in jest, but I’m afraid I’m one of them. I’d have adopted the new name if “Virgin Media” weren’t so ridiculous. But it has caused me to reflect on other names that I passively adopted. SuperValu, for example, with the needlessly dropped -e. And I’ve gone back to calling the “Three Arena” the Point.

Kielty does have his own production company - Green, Inc.

Worse and worse this show is getting ….. Westlife AGAIN ….. and that feckin' Garron Noone AGAIN …… beyond useless ……

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,317 ✭✭✭lumphammer2

Plus Kielty is a very bad host ….. dropping discussions and doubling down on the airhead stuff does not do anything to address the problems inherent in this show ….. Kielty has to go …. a more serious host ….. and then more discussion and less of pref none of the likes of Garron Noone and Joanne McNally please ……

Except watching Joanne McNally, Garron Noone and the like is not entertaining ….. discussion is needed ….. does not have to be political ….. but something intelligent rather than airhead is needed ….. Kielty's show has been the worst yet ……

    Tomorrow

Agreed. The above mentioned would not be my idea of entertainment. As you suggest, discussion, light or serious but give us something of substance. Needn't be Iran or Trump but there are lots of lighter topics, give a good panel of intelligent people, interspersed with some live music and we might be onto a winning format.

I think it’s good that they have tacked towards entertainment and away from Tubridy’s misery fare, but there should still be room for monthly ‘couch discussions’ (my phrase).

To suggest one example, Helen Joyce is an Irish author and activist in the UK whose transgender-critical book has just been ranked in the Sunday Times’s list of top 25 non-fiction books of the century. Yet she has received hardly any media coverage in her native Ireland. Regardless of your views, there is an opportunity to hear her views and hold them up to scrutiny. This is after all Ireland, where you can say “whatever the fúck you like”.

In the end they were just greedy, they all knew one another and knew what to expect more money for no return, it was a secure cash flow, but in fairness they looked for what they wanted and fair dues to them for that, and wouldn't you be doing the same!

Just one more thing .... when did they return that car

Unfortunately there is no entertainment or discussion in this show …… and the show has drifted further and futher from Gay Byrne's show with each host ….. IMO Kielty is the worst yet ….. the lack of discussion is one of the main reasons …… the likes of Garron Noone and Joanne McNally are not good guests and on too often ….. adding to the likes of Westlife and Dermot Bannon ….. who are STILL on too often !!! ……

Author you mention …… Catherine Connolly ….. Katelyn Cummins ….. etc etc etc ….. so many guests that should be on but not …… lot of topics to discuss (does not have to be politics …..) but no room or no type of guests to do so …….

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,317 ✭✭✭lumphammer2

100% ….. without doubt the Iran issue needs discussion but is of course not the only issue to be discussed ….. in fairness Tubridy did the Covid and Ukraine discussions well ….. and similar shows could have been done on Iran ….. and so on ….. Catherine Connolly would be a good guest ……

Aside from that there could be discussions on a range of topics …… Irish folk music like Luke Kelly …… the showband era …… useful tips to help save money ….. Katelyn Cummins and finding the right career path for young people ….. whatever …… the show has to balance itself between (proper) entertainment and topics of the day …… and cannot live in an airhead world of bland uninteresting z list 'celebs' where everyone pretends everything is hunky dory …..

I have to say I miss the quacks, mediums, psychics and people who 'talk to angels and god' ….. they used to give us a laugh and the host interrogating them …. bring on the Burkes et al while we are at it too …..

Garron Noone and Joanne McNally have absolutely nothing to offer ….. basically turned into 'celebs' by Kielty ….. why are such mediocre individuals given so much prominence ?? ….. wrt others like Dermot Bannon, Padraig Harrington, Boyzone, Westlife, Daniel O'Donnell, et al …… yes these are good at what they do in their own fields ….. but have been on way too often and basically have nothing new to add ….. give them a rest for a time ?? …..

Just to mention the last time Joanne McNally was it was a pre-record as she was doing a live show on a Friday night, really pre-records should really on only be for very famous people, and it might also help to have a superstar pre-record, but when you can't even manage to get Joanne McNally to turn up!

Boy George is joining Senhit from San Marino in her Eurovision entry in Vienna this month - wonder will he mention it. He's supposed to be pro-Israeli so potentially quite controversial.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,145 ✭✭✭RoTelly

Did either Ardal O'Hanlon or Chris O'Dowd mention Graham Linehan? There won't be anything controversial said about Boy George no, no, not his time in Jail or why he was in Jail.

O'Dowd was there for Dalata Hotel, and Boy George is there for Newbridge Sliverware.

As someone who believes in freedom of speech, I think that it would be a good idea for Kielty to have had some Irish Zionists as guests. But he hasn't, had he? I'm not a Zionist myself but I do believe in freedom of speech and freedom without consequences, and we should listen to both sides.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,145 ✭✭✭RoTelly

But Boy George isn't going to be asked about those issues, and he wouldn't have been asked by either Pat Kenny or Ryan Tubridy. You might have got a question from the Audience when Gay Byrne was host, or even a phone call, that might raise some eyebrows, even Pat Kenny's Audience show (Frontline) became less about audience participation.

What does it mean not to be a Zionist? You think Israel should be dissolved as a state?

I've been following the story of Jordan and Cian Adams for a while now. They are both very inspiring young men, who have been getting fantastic support in each of their stops so far and whilst ultimately a very sad story, there is something very inspirational about them. Jordan was the man carrying the fridge in the London Marathon.

I believe when they finish their final marathon in Dublin at the end of the month, it will be something special and they have brought people with them on this journey and lifted the Country which is needed after the negativity of the blockades etc.

Normally, I don' t have much time for Go-Fund me etc, but this is one that I hope people will get behind and rally them on.

Look forward to seeing them later on the show.

Methinks Patrick won’t reveal his future plans until the very end of the show, to keep viewers watching.

He should look straight into the camera, shout ‘NOT CARK’, then the studio is immediately plunged into complete darkness (whilst the audience are still in their seats).

Yes that was almost like a fetish ,its a funny sort of irish trait aswell but it shouldn't be indulged upon on an entertainment show. Tubridy overloaded on it during the Covid period, when we needed cheering up and entertainment more than ever he turned it into another arm of nphet.

I think all this antipathy to Kielty is propagated by others in media land, I was listening to Shane Coleman on the hard shoulder saying the next presenter should live in this country, obviously a swipe at Kielty. Also I think all these stories about Kielty not being offered another contract are all put out by the journos who don't like Kielty.

I didn't hear Shane Coleman but it's disappointing to hear that hare about "living in Ireland" being raised again.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 883 ✭✭✭iffandonlyif

Fair enough, but that means you are the one requiring a label - Israelophobe, maybe. Someone who merely respects the right of Israel to exist, and maybe sympathises with their situation, is not a Zionist, whatever Kneecap and the rest of the trendy antisemites might have you believe.

Can Westlife not just feck off and leave us alone. The most overrated band ever.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.
