The 'old' Highland seems to be commanding a premium atm(Happy days),and they said you'd lose your shirt on an EV eh?🤔

So does that mean that you could be in a new 'standard' RWD for around €2.5k then???

The "boost" was for Q1 (3500) and reduced for Q2 (2000) and will be gone entirely after June 30th.

Will it reappear next year? Personally I doubt it. The move was strategic to bring in higher quantities of quality used stock to the 2nd hand market - that objective was mostly achieved from chatting with the pre-owned vehicle coordinator in Tesla.

yeah it looks that way. I’ll hold onto my car for another year or so and maybe change in 2028. But yeah it’s great to see it’s held the value.

Very interesting - I'm thinking of getting into a 2027 plate but absolutely love the current car(251 Highland)so might hold off, don't know?

Quick one, I believe AI is lying yet again, but is there any way to kick-start partners driver profile by copying the setup from your own? It says at the time of driver creation but I don't see a way

    Thanks W

Does BBC Sounds content work on TuneIn?

It didn't work at first when I got the car, but then they would play and did so for about 2 years, but noticed again yesterday I can't play any BBC Sounds podcasts!

Are they geo locked, does anyone know?

Can anybody help me decide should I change my order from long range to standard model 3?

    I drive 2 days a week from Balbriggan to Kilmainham for work. 88km x 2 = 176kms

In summer a few days from balbriggan to somewhere for a walk such as malahide castle. 48km x 3 days = 144km.

Then on Saturday myself and my partner get out for a few hours while Carer's come and look after my special needs child. We might visit the Father in law in Kells meath so in total this 120km. So that is 440km in total.

However there will be motorway driving in that although there would be heavy traffic on M1 and M50 going to and from work.

I understand that there is reduced efficiency in winter and LR is supposed to be better. I also was hoping to get at least 8 to 10 years out of this car. I was happy with the standard I took for test drive but then opted for LR as not happy with all that was stripped out on standard. The rear screen for my daughter is something I really liked.

However at €10k more for LR and I've heard NM is not as good in concerned I've made the right choice.

Tesla say I can switch but it will be September order I would be down for if I do so.

My plan was to use Electric Ireland weekender plan and charge once for free between 8am to 11pm on a Sunday. Would charging to 90% in LR once a week be ok? If battery degrades over time and I've to charge more, does battery degradation get much worse?

I was also trying to budget also for if I changed job and had to do 4 days in the office somewhere else in Dublin.

    What would the consensus be?

Save the 10k - with that mileage yuo don't require it, not even close.

If you have a home charger, or getting one, then the standard range car will be ideal for you - and in these times 10k kept in your pocket is significant.

    The weekender plan will:

    (a) tie you to your house all day Sunday

    (b) drive up your electricity cost during the rest of the week.

Ain't no supplier giving away anything "free". The price os home charging is miniscule compared to petrol or diesel, just roll with it. You're overthinking the whole thing - like most owners new to EVs.

Agree 100% with Mojo. Save the 10k, you won't need the long range model.

Get a night rate meter and charge to 100% when you need to. With that commute, you will quickly realise that you can comfortably leave home with less than 40% battery and have plenty in reserve. I think you already know you don't need the long range car.

I've the standard M3 and love it. Granted I do little mileage, about 1100km in the 7 weeks I've owned it, but I've no issue with the bits that were stripped out.

If you plan to charge once per week to 90% in LR, what would the range difference be in charging to 100% in standard M3? I'd be buying the standard and topping up the charge rather than forking out the extra 10k.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,377 ✭✭✭lightspeed

I am leaning more to the standard at this point but how often would I need to charge during the week and what are estimated charge times?

I'm find huge variances in answers from chat got, Claude and Google Gemini.

Gemini suggests to charge 90% in the LR would take 10 hours 15 minutes. Chatgpt says 6.5 to 7 hours.

you won’t be charging from zero or close to it.

Your standard range will have a real world range of 400 ish from full. You will only need to top it up from 50 percent a few times a week (4-5 hours tops over night). Plug it in going to bed and forget how long it takes.

About 12 hours full charge for the LR, 0-100% and 9 hours 0-100% for standard RWD.

EV DB shows the standard RWD range as 445km which is about what I'm seeing. Shows LR as 580km, but if you're only charging to 90% that's about 520km.

First thing is to stop asking AI questions you can ask humans with experience 😅 Free AI doesn't have context or situational insight and is an addiction that surpresses critical thinking.

That aside, you're wildly overthinking this whole thing - someone said it above "Plug it in going to bed and forget how long it takes".

    This….literally.

A LR with your mileage is a waste of money.

As a rough guide, you'll charge 10% per hour on a home charger.

Can anybody advise if they fitted aftermarket rear screen and if it affected warranty with Tesla?

VIN assigned in the app for the standard RWD.

23rd May to 8th Jun time delivery window in app. Ship ECO STAR due into Zeebrugge on 11th May and then onto another ship for Ireland. Might get the earlier part of the delivery time frame I hope.

Same here, Vin displayed in the app for my wife's M3 rwd this morning, with a delivery window of May 21 to June 6. Dublin deliveries in my opinion should begin on the 21st, with the southern cities starting from 24th onwards 🤞.

@lightspeed if you're ok with the spec then standard is more than enough for your needs. Colleague bought one recently and it's almost every bit as good as mine. I've owned since August 24, rwd.

300 km a week on average. I would let the battery drop below 20% then charge 2 nights in a row on a 4hr EV window. For the last 2 months I am now on a night rate from 11pm to 8am so just one charge a week.

Battery is around 60kwh and your average charger gives 7kwh consistently overnight so 8 hours should be enough to go from 10% to 100%

    10 k is a huge leap IMO

Can anyone help me with something. I am getting my M3 on PCP and the max deposit is 14593euro.

I added my current car as trade in just to see what they would offer and they gave me a price 22450. How does the excess work? Would the full 22450 come off the M3 or would they take the max deposit and give me cash for the remainder?

Trying to decide what is best to do.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,959 ✭✭✭amacca

Very basic question, but can you get a standard base model M3 in red anymore?

It looks like, white, black and stealth grey only when I visit the website....

If you go up then more colours become available....its a while ago now but I rambert you could spec more colours in a base model rwd before??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 702 ✭✭✭Foreign Sports

If you want to put in the max deposit, and your trade in is worth more, they will usually give you the difference back in cash.

At least that's how it worked for me in 2015 when dealing with VW / VW bank.

You probably need to think about if you want to pay max deposit (usually around 30%) or maybe pay a bit less and get more cash back.

All depends on what you want to do really.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 528 ✭✭✭serjical_strike

Appreciate the reply. I was hoping that was the case.

I'd put in the least amount for the deposit if possible and get more money back. Tesla seemed to come out on top for the price for my car surprisingly. I read that the actual price can change when the trade actually happens.

I'll ring to finance Ireland/tesla Tues and see what they say but thank you for letting me know it was possible on your side.

Just the three colours on the base model, no white interior either

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 702 ✭✭✭Foreign Sports

    No worries at all @serjical_strike

Least deposit is a good approach actually. It can help with the mindset if you ever decide to roll it over again after a couple of years or whatever as you will be used to paying a bit more for the monthlies.

One of the main issues with PCP can be if you go again and the equity left in your car is a good bit less compared to when you paid the deposit the first time.

Best of luck with however you move forward!

Tks, that really pisses me off for some reason! Colour shouldn't be a .sketch or break factor....but it kind of is, the base rwd would suit my driving fine.....

Welcome to the world of buying a Tesla.

It's not like going to your local dealer. Live in Connemara and don't want to collect in Dublin? Tough.

Want to decide when you collect the car? Tough.

    Want a different colour? Tough.

    Expect a deal? Tough.

    We've all been there mate!!

Do you mind me asking when you ordered and was it from inventory? When I ordered mine last week I was told by staff in the shop that I should get my car by June but it says Aug-Sep in the app.
