There are two standard Model 3s in Tesla inventory right now.

A brilliant car and you'll get 2k off if you throw any old junker at them for a trade in, bringing the price down to 34.5k

The boat is due in next week and for sure there will be cars on that boat declined by customers so expect inventory to have quite a few over the next 2-3 weeks.

His wife doesn't want the stripped down version though.

I think the point was more that she was perhaps overvaluing the plastic/pleather seats in the 'Premium'.

The new fabric seats in the M3 standard are absolutely brilliant.

I had placed a second order for one of the Inventory cars, and was told that they are not in stock and are due to arrive by end of May or June (same as our first order). Delivery for our order placed last month says mid-May to June.

Yeah she wants the leather and ambient lighting. What would be a fair price for a 242 highland sleuth about 20k km?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 430 ✭✭SummerK

Did they quote 45k for LR Red which I was told would cost 48k?

My wife also wanted the premium rwd one when we test drove it in January, but they replaced it the next day with the standard basic one 😡. She now appears to be fine with the standard one, as she recently test drove it the second time. She wanted ambient lighting, full vegan leather seater, a bit more quieter cabinet, and a rear screen for the kids, but spending over 8 grand for these things seems too much.

Just FYI for anyone that might experience same issue, my m3 highland updated last night to 2026.14.1 and this morning I had issues with the phone key on all phones... Wouldn't detect it and I also had a TPMS fault Phone key stopped working after spring update, seems a good few users affected with same issue Source: Reddit https://www.reddit.com/r/TeslaSupport/s/2NTBo4SSdE

I had to enter service mode and reinstall software and it fixed the issue for me

Thanks for the heads up. My m3 is currently installing this new spring version now.

When you enter service mode and reinstall the software, are you rolling back or reinstalling 2026.14.1 again?

Edit: have just watched a you tube video and can see it's a reinstall of the same version.

The "leather" in the M3 Highland is plastic and feels nothing like real leather. It might be handy for cleaning if you have young kids.

I've not been in the new cloth seat version so can't comment on it. The ambient lighting is a gimmick as is the rear screen which is never switched on as everyone, even kids, have phones or tablets now.

    There are other additional features on the premium RWD version that might make a difference, depending on how someone values them;

    • Frequency selective dampers
    • Double glazing all around (rear doors)
    • More speakers 9 vs 7
    • Vented front seats
    • Rear heated seats

Standard test drive car that I drove yesterday had single glazed in the front doors. I did show this to the sales rep and he wasn’t sure that it was double glazed.

Suspension on the standard version felt somewhat softer & hence a bit more body roll compared to premium, however it was grand. Cabin noise was more than my liking especially on rough patches but wife seems to be ok.

I think front passenger seat height adjust has been removed as well if that’s important to someone, and so is the steering wheel adjustment option including weight adjustments.

I couldn’t figure out which 2 speakers were removed in the std compared to LR.

It's now manual steering wheel adjustment instead of electric.

I think it's the two in the rear that are now removed

Doesn't the Standard RWD have a little less power also? Not that it would probably be noticeable.

I sat in the Standard Model 3 only briefly, appeared to be a little less plush around the doors and boot. More plastic trim. Not necessarily a bad thing..

But nowhere near as stripped out as the Model Y Standard.

He specifically mentioned his wife's preference regarding the seats and ambient lighting to which, as a current owner of a M3H, I gave an opinion.

Yes I understand that. They are also two options that wouldn't be a deal breaker to me. Although my 5 year old doesn't have a tablet and loves watching Peppa on the rear screen.

The quieter cabin, better suspension and (slightly) better sound system would be...

what are the differences that make the cabin quieter and also thr difference in the suspension?

Double glazed windows front and rear on the premium which makes the cabin noise quieter.

Frequency selective dampers are a more sophisticated set up where they soften up over bumps and are stiffer when the road is more smooth. So kind of a psuedo active suspension.

Speaking from personal experience only, the rear screen on long journeys for us is so handy, kids can stick bluetooth headphones on and we can control netflix from the front for them allowing us to listen to podcasts etc in peace. Drove down to Mayo paddys weekend without stopping and no complaining from the back, was a dream. And last week i had to bring my 10 yr old and two of his mates to play a match, 90 minutes each way. The lads played the games the entire way over and back with a bluetooth games controller, kept them entertained. If your not using it and you have kids, would definitely reccomended picking up over the ear bluetooth headphones and a controller (I picked up cheap ones on temu)

I don't have young kids anymore but can see how it is a benefit to you. I see so many young kids with phones these days that it seems they all have their own now anyway.

Of course, at the time it was on all models so never came into a 7k decision. There just wasn't a model without the rear screen. The base model was equivalent to the now unavailable "LFP non-LR but still Premium RWD" option. Depending on when purchased, that base model itself was close in price to the current reduced-spec base model.

While the screen for most people is generally superfluous and quite easy to forget about, it's nice to see that some do get value out of it. My kids are also a little older so after a single pass through trying out the games, they only use it to fiddle with the heated seats or to veto my radio station selection but I can see how it would save faffing with tablets strapped to headrests etc for those able to delay the arrival of phones.

my young lad likes it also, I do put on stuff as he don’t have a table and I get to control what he is watching. He like on Spotify to be able to see the tile of the track that is playing.

I have already warned him when or if we change the car it won’t be there!
