Not good.. I presume the coolant hub driver module was replaced on your car via a recent service campaign. So the valve can still fail afterwards?..

Yes, that recall was done a few months ago when the car was in to get one of the various problems fixed (I'm losing track of them at this stage)

My turn now now on the charging roundabout. Plugged in at work (3ph 22kW AC, only get 10-11 of course due to car limitation) late this morning and checked at lunch to see % only up by 20 and estimated time at 22hours. Knew straight away so went out, changed to 90% charging rate, reset cable and started normal. Within 4 minutes it had gone from the c.10kW to c.2kW.

Back home, did a quick check and went for 7 minutes at 6.3kW (90%) so will give it a longer run tonight.

Booked in for the latest campaign update tomorrow, North Dublin.

Have avoided issues until now, 8400km since August. Let's see...

Now that they introduced 15 year ICCU warranty for pre-April 2024 European Ioniq 5s, I hope in a year or two they introduce the same for the Inster too.

This morning I had to replace the key fob battery for the second time on a car that is barely eight months old. The original battery was CR2032 so I've used this type for replacement although the manual lists the battery as CR2450 (same voltage but different form factor so not really suitable). I searched on the web and find that (once again) this appears to be another common issue.

Well my inster is now in the garage, 1500k not even 2 months old. First reported the charging issue (not taking a full charge, only 70% of the charge was actually going to the car) when the car wasn't even a month old. Was told it was probably my Zappi charger, air temperature, length of charging cable, pushed the issue and they asked that the car come into the garage and they would put it on charge. Date was arranged which the garage cancelled, following week didn't suit them and then finally the charge dropped to a near trickle charge and then the "check electrical system" message appeared.

The car from day one wasn't taking a full charge, took me a bit to notice that rather than the battery rising by 40%, it was only rising by 35%, then 30% and then recently below 30% on a 21kw charge in 3hrs.

So, what are my rights, problem arose in the first 30 days, reported the issue within the first month since buying it and now less than 2 months old it is in the garage for 3 days and no confirmation of what exactly is wrong (my suspicion is an ICCU issue) and no estimate as to when it may be repaired. A (possible) major fault within 30 days of purchase, can I ask for a full refund or a replacement car?

You can ask away but they are stubborn pr1cks to deal with unfortunately.

They have to repair or replace the vehicle but it’ll be their choice which will be repair. Best case is they will give you a loaner and repair your car. CCPC are an option for advice but they are generally pretty useless.

I bought Inster almost a year ago. A few times I got mad, and blamed myself for not turning on the charger, but since I started commuting to work on daily basis this week, I have noticed that after 1.5 hour the charging rate drops from over 7kW to less than 2kW.

    IMG_9451.png

Bear in mind that I don’t do any washing up at night, nor do I take showers between 2am and 6am. It happened twice this week on a scheduled charging.

    IMG_9453.png

    Manual boost worked fine yesterday.

In January the dealer recalled the car for some ICCU thing, but did not explain the reasons to me, although I asked. I guess I know now, but whatever they did, it didn’t fix the issue. I will go to the garage, but - if I may ask for advise - what do I say?

Try reducing the AC charging current to 90% and see if this stops the drop in the charging rate (go to the EV menu → AC Charging Current to set the percentage). If this resolves the problem then you need the latest ICCU update to be installed by the dealership - I think it's 60D066.

…and be ready for ICCU to die a few weeks later. My 2nd ICCU failed last week 2 weeks after the software update. I think my dealership knew it would happen as the part was in stock and car was fixed the next day. I cannot fault my dealership but it is very annoying when you wake up to this problem on Monday morning. It again knocked out my Zappi when it died.

I switched the charge current back to 90% even after getting the updates done as I have no confidence in the ICCU reliability. It probably won’t make any difference but who knows.

anyone done the OTA update? Screen has gone blank now. How long does it take to update?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,638 ✭✭✭Reg'stoy

Countdown on the screen was less than 2 mins, map locations are much better, but honestly I normally use google maps via the android auto app.

Seen one on a motorway today. It was behind a Tuscon and it did look so tiny in comparison. Not sure about the comfort inside but its very visible how the car jiggled on that bad road surface. But parking in Grafton street car parks must be a breeze. You’d struggle to find it though behind all those SUVs :)

I think I got the dreaded ICCU failure yesterday. 2700km on the clock. Tripped RCD and now won't take any charge (other EV charges perfect so it's not a Zappi issue) and getting 'Check EV System' error on dash.😐️ Dealer is taking it in this evening for a look. I mentioned I thought it was the ICCU failure, he remarked that i'd done my research!

Had it in for annual check and software updates etc back in February.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 805 ✭✭✭glen123

I never even got any errors. It just stopped charging.

Hopefully they have the part in stock and will fix it for you quickly like it was in my case.

I believe the ICCU can fail over and over. What will happen out of the 5 year warranty. I'd imagine it's part of general warranty and not battery warranty.

Wonder how much they'd be to replace?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 564 ✭✭✭GPoint

Hyundai extended warranty on this up to 15 years but there is mileage cap. Seen it discussed here. Cost will be high enough to negate your savings on fuel and if failed more than once to make it worse than ice.

I wonder why folks keep queueing up for Hyundai cars knowing they charge hundreds for their non conductive coolant change, hi service costs and ICCU issues.

Extended for pre-April 2024 Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6, not for the Inster. (yet?)

What are you on about, 150 20KW (3000KW's equals about 20,000+ kilometres) charges at 8c per kilowatt, works out at €240 'fuel' costs per year vs 20,000+ kilometres on diesel which is about €2,000. Only if you don't have a home charger and you invalidated your car's warranty, would repair issues come into play and thats accepting that ICE cars don't have mechanical issues also.

My Inster had an issue, it was fixed under warranty, garage were pretty good about it, I would expect the same treatment if another issue were to arise. My previous car was a diesel quasqai, had a DPM sensor snag and then an injector issue both cost a few bob. I expect my servicing to be less with the Inster. A €1,000+ in 'fuel' alone each year builds up pretty quickly to counter act any non warranty issues.

    Fair play if so

Got my Inster back on Saturday with new ICCU, 8 days in total with Hyundai. Was offered a replacement Inster courtesy car but it coincided with a holiday so didn't take it.

I've been very critical of Hyundai Wexford in the past but the new guy heading up Service in there seems decent, he's the first guy there that didn't try to bullsh!t me. I asked him re the 15 year warranty on the ICCUs - he said it wasn't in place on Insters yet as apparently the part is completely different to that ICCU part used in the Ioniq5s etc (which is worrying in itself!). But he anticipates it may come due to the number of Insters they're seeing with the issue.

I'm unfortunately on the same boat now, this started happening a couple of random times last month and I've now had it 4 days in a row. Charging drops to 1.5kW after a bit.

See how it goes with the dealer.

If you have the myenergi app or an app for your ev charger, take a screenshot of the drop in charging rate. If a friend has an ev, get them to avail of a free overnight charge and compare against yours.

I had noticed a gradual drop off in the charge actually reaching the car, it would get 16kws of a 20kw charge, then 15 and it keep getting lower. Dealer blamed my charger (zappi) even thought my wife's Leaf would get the full charge. Eventually like you, the charge rate began to drop from just under 7 to under 2kws, until finally the dreade "check electrial system" warning. Turned out to be my coolant pump. They said my car was reducing the incoming charge to protect the battery as it wasn't being cooled.

Check the coolant level, if possible and not a long term solution, use excess energy from your solar system (if you have one) the charging rate will be low, but if you can't do that, you will be able to DC (fast) charge the car.

    Screenshot 2026-06-10 at 09-04-04 History – Home Assistant.png

I did just that. Used Home Assistant to show the issue (it occurred again tonight) and how it was working fine some nights (and works perfectly on our EV6). I've used solar to top it up but also put in an extra hour of charging in the morning, and that one seems to have gone for 1h without drops. Seemingly it only happens after longer than 1 hour.

Interestingly enough, if I turn the charger on and off again I can get the charge to go back to 7.5kW for 15 minutes, but then it drops again. You can see how reproducible that is.

    image.png

Dealer only has a slot on the 30th, see how it goes in the meantime.

We'd been lucky enough so far not to have any issue, this issue only showed up after 11.5k KM on the clock.

Set the charging current to 90% and see if that helps temporarily.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 297 ✭✭cromelex

    Looks like it does help.

I didn't set it in the car directly but made the change on the charger to be able to troubleshoot further.

Started at 32A and 5 minutes after it drops to 1.5kW I restart the charge at 28A, increasing to 30A after 15 minutes.

    It didn't fall again.

It's not a huge difference, 32 vs 30A , if I can get that to work consistently in the meantime.

Mine worked fine at 90% for 3-4 weeks and then ICCU failed completely (knocked out my Zappi when it did)
