    Rathwood update from today's Indo.

Rathwood ordered to refund customers for undelivered goods after consumer watchdog investigation

    • The consumer watchdog has ordered Rathwood Home and Garden World to refund customers who cancelled their orders after their goods were not delivered.

Rathwood, an Irish family-owned home and garden retailer, located just outside Tullow in Co Carlow, was investigated by the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) after complaints were made that the company had not properly refunded customers who cancelled orders when their goods were not delivered.

Under consumer law, if goods aren’t delivered, customers can cancel their order, with the business required to issue a refund without delay.

The CCPC said they had reason to believe that Rathwood had failed to issue these required refunds for a number of customers who ordered goods between October 1, 2024 and September 30, 2025.

In order to avoid further enforcement action from the CCPC, Rathwood was forced to sign a legally binding commitment promising to refund all customers who purchased goods between October 1, 2024 and September 30, 2025, cancelled as a result of non-delivery, and had still not been refunded by March 5, 2026 – except those already refunded through chargeback.

The refunds had to be issued by Rathwood by no later than April 2, 2026.

Rathwood also promised to provide the CCPC with a full list of customers impacted by these issues by no later than April 9, 2026

The CCPC said they formally accepted Rathwood’s legally binding written promise on March 5, 2026.

Where's that lad now who thinks they're grand and you get what you pay for with them (which you quite literally don't)?

Ridiculous it took that long for anything to be done about them.

you mean the Rathwood shill? 😜

yep, that company could have been gone bust in the meantime

and also, this is only a slap on the wrist, there’s no punishment for them for inconveniencing so many

Got 2 crates of beech logs from Firewood Direct with a few bags of kindling. Very dry, crates label say there's 750 kg in them +-30kg. Paid €359.00 delivered to Co Mayo. Burns really well. Have also ordered 1 jumbo XL bag of premium mixed hardwood (ash, beech, oak) inc 4 bags of kindling for €435.00 from Surefirewood.ie. Reason for the 2nd purchase was that I saw one a friend had bought and I thought it was great value, haven't got it yet as only ordered last week but it's coming this week. One stop shop firewood I'd say is ok too but the €50 on top of their price for delivery rules it out. Just out of curiosity I had heard all about Rathwood, etc. They have some great deals on Oak hardwood logs on their website, I got on to them by email asking if they'd sell a few crates to me on a cash on delivery deal. Said they would phone me back which they did after about half an hour to say it wasn't their policy to sell on a COD basis.

Rathwood was called out here a long time ago highlighting the importance of these types of forums.

There's no doubt it stopped a lot of people getting stung with late orders etc.

Absolutely. People got bored of it and asked for no more mentions of them but something like that should be mentioned over and over.

I stopped my mother ordering garden furniture of them because of the feedback here.

got this trailer of seasoned Ash delivered to me today for €180…….rural Kerry! The wood is really dry too, he dropped a bag off for free last week so I could try it! The logs are massive and will need splitting next Autumn. But I'm delighted as I think firewood is only going to go up and up in price, now I have fuel security for next Winter. Delighted.

I know we don’t speak of the unspeakable on this thread, but I would be cringing if I worked for them or owned the business. It’s car crash stuff on the radio. How are they still operating?

Boyles got a mention for delivering in 3 days and advising no sourcing issues which rathwood were using as excuses.

ordered oak pallet and some coal from Boyles today

I stupidly ordered a patio awning for 1000eur last month from rathwood, read a comment today online saying they will go into liquidation next month. Does anybody have any info, might try do chargeback before that happens.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,725 ✭✭✭geographica

do a chargeback but isn’t it unusual for a company to announce they are going into liquidation in the future?

was only a comment online i saw that a friend of a member of the staff had said they were told. Probably bull **** but im waiting over 3 weeks now with nu update after saying its coming from uk. Think i have to wait 28days to ask for refund so that's next Wednesday.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,817 ✭✭✭Royale with Cheese

I'd imagine that order to pay everyone back would have them in serious trouble alright, because if they actually have the money to pay those refunds then none of what they've been doing over the past 18 months makes any sense.

How the hell are they still surviving if they have to withhold refunds and orders from customers for months?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,001 ✭✭✭✭Supercell

They absolutely havent refunded all their customers , i asked for a refund last month or i would take it up with the small court as its over a year now since i ordered.. They said it would be delivered in May. Had enough, now going to submit a claim.

shame to see such a reputable local business built up over years by two parents be destroyed by two “whizz kids” who think they can pull a fast one - how it appears to me anyhow

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,455 ✭✭✭newhouse87

Just an update, after 3 weeks with no update on my order, i went straight to revolut and initiated a chargeback, they approved dispute within minutes so they must have known rathwood. Juist got my money back today less then a week later. People should not waste time emailing rathwood or going to small claims court. Go straight to chargeback.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,725 ✭✭✭geographica

you can’t if it’s over 120 days though and a lot of people were stung that way

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,455 ✭✭✭newhouse87

Yeah that's why emailing rathwood for updates or a refund is a waste of time. I suspect rathwood do that on purpose promising next month delivery etc. I emailed rathwood 1 day after delivery delay and told them cancel and i wanted a refund. I raised the chargeback a few minutes after that email as revolut require proof of trying to get refund.

Set a reminder for 119 days if buying from them. Chargeback if product hasn't arrived.

I can't believe anyone is still ordering from them! Why wait 119 days? Anyone with an outstanding order should just do a chargeback now. Even if you were to actually get your order eventually, would you really want to support these thieves with your money?
