Got it next day. They haven't stopped ringing me in work since. Can't ever get them when I need customer service but always harassed when cancelling. Gobs#ites

Yep, got it myself the next day. I had rang up 1908 before I got it and they were aware of it and were actioning it.

Got offered 35 quid for the year fixed. 500 plan, will move to fibre too. Will stick out of handiness

I'm out of contract. Said I was moving to Sky who are doing 1Gb for 35 a month. They offered me 40 per month for 9 months & 80 for the last 3 months of a 1yr contract. Also offered to bring in full fibre connection to the house, its currently Part fibre apparently

    Any advice on this?

You could get Pure Telecom 500Mb with One Big Switch for €30pm. You would be connected through one of the FTTP networks (open eir, SIRO, NBI), whichever is available at your address -

    https://www.comreg.ie/broadbandchecker

If you have TV currently with Virgin, moving to FTTP will mean you'll have to switch to their Streaming TV service, which has very limited recording.

Their FTTP can go up to 5Gb/s, whereas the max on their coax service is 1Gb/s. Latency and reliability should improve. You won't be able to use your own router easily though, as there is no modem/bridge mode.

Want to stay on 1Gb really. New customers are getting 45 per month and 100 credit off the bill. 2yr contract with Virgin

    There's a few other options -

    Sky 1Gb - €35pm for 12 months.

    Digiweb SIRO 1Gb - €37.95pm for 12 months.

eir 1Gb - €40pm for 24 months, €4 price increase from next year. €100 bill credit.

    Vodafone 1Gb - €35pm for 6 months, €40pm thereafter, 12 month contract. €3.50 price increase each April.

    Pure Telecom 1Gb - €40pm for 12 months.

Or you should be able to sign up someone else in the house with Virgin as a new customer.

Hi, could you tell me how upgrading the line to fibre works. I'm on 1gb but I don't have full fibre (despite letters every few months saying upgrades are coming). Thanks

Put your Eircode into Virgin Media's website and see what speed options are available, if 5Gb is showing then FTTP is available. You'd have to ring and ask for FTTP to be installed with a re-contract most likely or switch to Sky/Vodafone/Digiweb through Virgin FTTP.

Your coax will likely be removed and a new fibre cable will be brought in. If you have TV with Virgin it will be swapped to their Streaming TV, which has very limited recording. The Hub 5x with Virgin FTTP doesn't have modem/bridge mode.

Ah ok thanks. My max is 1gb and to be honest I'm happy with it for now. Would upgrading involve pulling up my driveway?

Yeah keep an eye on the Virgin Media and ComReg websites. The speed options available on their FTTP network are 500Mb/1Gb/5Gb.

It should show as available eventually, once it is you can order it from Virgin/Sky/Vodafone/Digiweb and the install will be booked.

I'd say it will be the same as how the original coax install was handled, as they'll most likely follow that route.

You might have other FTTP access networks available to you also - open eir FTTP, SIRO, NBI. They all can enter in different places of the house - SIRO near the ESB electricity meter etc.

Email to cancel, got an automated email a day or two later offering 9 months half price. Will they do better if I wait?

They rang my son with the same offer, he declined and they gave him half price for the full year, he was delighted with that.

Cancelled yesterday after a poor retention offer, & a heated discussion about what my alternatives were with competitors - so final date is set for early May. That was after 30 mins on hold just to essentially leave a voicemail to get a call back later that evening. Anyway, am I likely to hear back from them with a better counter offer at this stage? If not, how long does it take them to set up a new account if a different family member were to avail of a new customer offer (ie, I'm looking to minimise any downtime I might have as a result of cancelling)

I'm in the same boat - wouldn't budge on a 4.50 increase so cancelled on the phone after being on hold and put on a callback Hoping I get a call in a week or two with an offer. otherwise I presume I can ring anytime before the contract end day to say I want to cancel the cancellation if I have changed my mind?

Anyone have the new cabling put in recently and able to get the higher speeds.? All the little black boxes are over every house up under the gutters, they installed all the fiber cables alongside the existing coax. We got letters saying we can get get 2GB up to 5GB speeds.

That was over a year ago.

Still the website says I can't get any of that, same on the phone. They were sharing it with Vodafone and Sky, Be nice to be able to change between the 3 without all the hassle.

It should show as available on ComReg's website when it's available to be installed - Virgin / Fibre / 5,000Mbps. 2Gb and 5Gb will also show as available when you check your Eircode on Virgin's website.

    https://www.comreg.ie/broadbandchecker/

You'll be able to switch between Virgin, Sky, Vodafone and Digiweb when it's installed.

There's no ONT installed going with Virgin, as its integrated into the Hub 5x. There's no "modem mode" either. If you choose Sky, Vodafone or Digiweb, a normal ONT is installed and you can connect your own router directly to it.

So it is live? Seems odd they don't advertise it then.

When i put my eircode into any provider the highest is 1Gb

Might be worth a call to Virgin to see when it will be available, I'd imagine it should be soon as it's showing on ComReg.

Does it show on Digiweb's website when you enter your Eircode? It will be called "Xpress Fibre 500/1000/2000"
