I availed of it last year too. I think they probably applied it to stop me annoying them (same as every year, lol).

Thanks for the reply, did you contact them after filling out the form or did you wait until you got the bill and it wasn’t applied?

Got an email offering me half price for six months.

Will chase them on the 12 months that I signed up for in the next week or so.

My contract is up in circa 25days with virgin media, paying €80 p/m for last quarter of contract €40 for previous 9 months, on 1gb speed, rang 1908 today as only way to cancel, spent over an hour on hold, eventually answered, was told that i am not using 1gb to its potential, so offered me a yrs contract on €55 p/m for 12 months with speed of 500mb, and virgin tech to call to house to fit fibre to router, any thoughts, i gave go ahead with the knocledge of 14days cooling off period

I signed up to renew BB and TV with them in July…. 9 months half price, then 3 at full. That's fine except….. while signing up I was asked if I was interested in Mobile for €15 per month, unlimited data etc for ever, using Three network. As I was topping up €20 per month with Three I thought I might as well go for this. The problem is that in spite of at least three attempts i have been unable to get them to transfer my number over, so I've been paying this €15 per month since July for no real value.

Calling their help line is a frustrating experience, generally leading to nothing being achieved. I will try got cancel but I'd say they will then lump a charge for the rest of the 12 months I think I signed up for. Am tempted to cancel the direct debit for this service and let them pursue it, but I know that can be problematic too.

And while I'm on this, the same crowd managed to lose my land line number when I moved to them about 18 months ago. You put in a number transfer request and never hear anything again….. I put in a complaint, got no case number as they're supposed to do, and just missed a call from a guy who left a message saying "you can call us back"…. no name, no number, so just go back through the whole 'help center' rigmarole again….

Do any of these companies give a good service??

    Beware.

Get on to ComReg. These companies strangely tend to start sorting shít once ComReg get involved.

Does anyone know what's going on with Virgin FFTTH? They wrote to me say it's coming in March 2024! They've been going all around the parish ( Portmarnock ) putting cable along the roads before and since. In September 24 the sub contractors connected the cables from the road to lots of houses around ( inc mine) however the system hasn't gone live. I've been trying to establish what's going on ever since. No response on phone when I call number given out with 3/24 letter. When I check the various registers using my eircode address it is not recorded as having full fibre. Several calls since have elicited different responses from Virgin Media staff , e.g. There are tests going on in your area before offering it to everyone. Other responses imply staff are as much in the dark as I am. Does anyone in Portmarnock have it yet?

My contract is due to expire around 20th of Nov. I'm waiting to see if Sky offer a decent deal or if Black Friday yield anything of interest.

I'm down the road in a different area but had a similar situation with the letter, and not showing up on eir/sky etc online checker. This site gave me the best info for my address.

Pain that I didn't realise my Virgin media account was out of contract, its gone from €60 to €115 so ill be leaving at those prices for TV and broadband.

Anyone any good deals recently with VM or another provider or cancel via e-mail.

As others suggested, they rejected my application for the 12 months half-price broadband.

I was offered to stay on broadband for €40 for 6 months and €80 for the final 6. They also offered me a deal to move my mobile over to them and it would be €55 for 9 months and €95 for the final 3.

Am considering it but I'm pretty happy with my mobile on GoMo and have heard VM mobile can be hit and miss.

Signed up again with Virgin. We do the partner name swap each year. Last year we done the 12 months link.
So now I have fibre and the new crappy streaming box.
I also think my speeds are slower than on coax. I had 1GB coax and now have 1GB fibre.

One thing I found out is that Virgin Fibre now wholesale to Sky and Vodafone. So from now on it will be as easy as switching energy provider.

I know that the SKY/VF wholesale deals have been announced many times over the years, but I don't believe either of them are offering them as a product to customers?

Sorry I never got back to you. I contacted them beforehand as I suspected it would not work and didn't want to risk the bill going to the full price.

Anyone able to cancel via the email address recently. It's in my wife's name so I can't ring up, need to cancel and then sign up unde my own name.

Such a **** show with them, if they just rewarded loyalty most would happily stay.

I cancelled by email. Same issue as account was in my wife's name. Cancelling by email worked. They tried ringing her loads of times but she just ignored them. Set up again in my name and no issues at all.

Nice one I'll give that a shot and get her to email them.

Been on 500mb broadband at €35 per month (reduced from €70) for 12 months.

Contract up in 1 month so called to cancel today and see what Fibre offers I could get.

For 5gb, the price is €100 per month standard. The offers I got were:

First, €80pm. I said I still wanted to cancel.

Second, €50pm for 6 months, €100pm for 6 months. I declined and got more insistent re: cancelling.

Final "ultra tier offer" as it was phrased, was €50 for 9 months, €100 for 3 months.

It works out at averaging only an extra €2.50 per month compared to the new customer deal of €60pm for all 12 months, so that was good enough for me.

I have 2GB with Vodafone on the Virgin Network

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,368 ✭✭✭Mav11

Interesting, I wonder do they offer the lower speeds 500m / 1GB? I must give them a call.

Been on 1GB broadband for the last year at €45.

Got a range of offers when I said I wanted to cancel over the course of the week but ultimately settled for €40 per month for 9 months and €80 for the final 3, a net increase of €5 per month over the 12 months.

We only have part fibre here so options are somewhat limited if we want decent speeds.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,368 ✭✭✭Mav11

I'm in the same re. part fibre to the house. Have you tried to access the VM network via Vodafone or sky as per @Donohoe10 above?

I can't seem to find that option on either site. Vodafone are offering 5g or 4g access and Sky are offering up to 100mbps.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 13,902 ✭✭✭✭Exclamation Marc

I tried Bonkers.ie for comparison and checked as well with Eir and Vodafone and all only offered 5g broadband (where we are).

We had Sky before VM and found that the speeds were fairly crap and they seem to still be topping out at 50 mb/s in the area.

If we want fast broadband we're pretty much limited to Virgin Media or Starlink.

I think it's only the full fibre VM network that's open to resellers like VF and Sky.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,368 ✭✭✭Mav11

Yeah, maybe that's it. How do you know if you're full fibre or not with VM? Is there anyway of telling?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,408 ✭✭✭Eire Go Brach

They are appearing on switcher.ie. I reckon I will try Sky next year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,903 ✭✭✭bren2001

that makes sense. Up until a few weeks ago, VM were my only fibre option. Then FTTH became available and I could get VM/Vodafone etc

Anyone know if the virgin bills are paid in advance? I've a full price (double) bill going to be debited at the end of the month probably from my last contract rolling over, but I was under the impression I locked in a new half price deal with them once they installed the fibre line last week. (No actual bills come up when I log in via their site, just loads of blank areas). Hopefully if I pay it it will roll over as a credit on the next bill, but I'm half tempted to cancel and move to sky for 44e a month as I'm technically in the cooling off period now with virgin.
