The top of the connector is hard plastic so I can’t even poke a screwdriver in there to see if I can get in behind the connector. I’ll look at it in the light tomorrow and try and get into the boot through the back seats. Car is unlocked at least but boot won’t open.

Were you able to contact Polestar SOS outside the car or did you contact the AA?

Looks like you'd have to get access to boot and poke around behind the carpet liner

I managed to get through to Polestar Assistance today, which is good. The guy on the phone wasn’t up for much information about the issue just three or four quick questions and that was it. Hopefully someone comes out today to sort it. I guess the main problem is getting it unplugged, but they should know how to get at the 12V. A neighbour who had an Ioniq 3 said he could jump his easily, but the battery on the Polestar is really well hidden. You can hear it ticking under a panel in the front.

Fixed. It was a dead battery. Not sure what caused it.

Polestar 2 Business Edition for €39,897. Is there a better EV for under 40k?

good review Derek, interesting proposition, if new leaf with big battery is dearer than this as expected then it’s a really good value option now, would have always felt polestar were overpriced but this doesn’t seem to be. Only real down side is that big transmission tunnel and the overall interior space for the size of car. Not as big an issue if it is competing on price with ‘smaller’ cars like the leaf and id3.

Yes, it’s a decent offering with a quality interior. Rear legroom is tight unfortunately which makes the cabin feel so cramped.

I have mine about 15 months now and still love it. We only have one small kid so plenty of space for us. Cracking car for the 300km spin we do monthly for Dublin to Kerry and the ACC is superb. I was lucky enough to get a top spec model as the likes of the pano roof makes a big difference. Think the original one is 4 years old now and the grill on the front is the only visible change so it could definitely do with a proper facelift.

I don’t know, I don’t think there’s any real value in one. The base one I know is now RWD and more powerful than the older ones but they also don’t come with the same packs most people here have that seemed to be on most of the early ones.

There’s a few EVs in the family and a similarly priced ID3 is better specced and more spacious in the back. An Ioniq 6 N-Line is low 40s now and offers more range, spec and space. Then you’ve the model 3 for less money which if you’re ok with the whole Elon thing is a lot of car for the money. A basic P2 needs to undercut that to have a shot.

Agreed they need to undercut the model 3 , it's a nice car but rear is compromised and the business edition is pretty basic inside.

No blindspot in a 40k car in 2025 is bizarre. That's an 'extra' that makes such a difference to day-to-day safety.

Agreed, also the likes of only offering partial electric adjustment on the seat seems pretty and makes the memory function a bit of a waste. Looks like the new standard M3 will probably also cut some spec levels so there must be a market for it

The P2 in normal trim had already fallen to 39/40K, why a stripped out "business edition" is now headlining at 40k is mystifying - trying to breathe life into the regular P2 and trick folks into believing it's worth an uplift?

Anyone here driving the 2024 onwards P2 LRSM or LRDM? How is the reliability? Car still has a few annoyances like the console and the transmission tunnel but it looks great and is said to drive sporty (for a heavy EV). Am still tempted, though I'd miss the Tesla charging system… Not much on the market though second-hand.

If we get a dog, I think the hatchback design will be more practical, but no way am I getting an SUV (even though I know the P2 shares its chassis with the XC40).

Tesla chargers are open to Polestars.

I’ve got the pre facelift 2023 LRDM Performance and it’s been solid the last two years.

I think the Ballacolla ones, and select others, are not available yet to Polestar? How is the range for motorway trips on the pre-facelift LRDM? I read that the older LRDM was FWD-biased and does not decouple the front motor when not needed. I imagine the performance pack makes another hit on range along with 20" wheels.

Probably 375-400 on a long spin in the summer. I’ve done Cork to Dublin a few times in summer, did what I needed to and would pull in for a charge at IONITY after 320km or so at 20-25% battery. Drive it on a bit and you won’t see that sort of range, winter is probably about 300km on a good run.

I got a notification on the polestar charge app last week saying all chargers were not added to it for use.

Hoping to get some advice if anyone has the time to reply. Looking at purchasing a Polestar from the North given the good value available, budget will allow for a 2021/2022 model at best I'd say.

Are there any warnings people would offer around buying models from a specific year? Any particular features or checks to run outside of the obvious - mileage, battery health, service history etc. - when viewing cars?

    Thanks all

I don't think there are any known issues yet. Main thing would be checking the suspension if it's done a lot of mileage. You might need to budget for tyres but service history isn't important on an EV

Just got a LR myself a month ago from the North. I saved €7,500 over a SR in a local dealer. Really lovely car. Big change from my beloved BMW i3 but really enjoying the comfort and adaptive cruise control. Manufacturers warranty is only 3 years (battery is 8) and expires on Tuesday. Going into the Volvo garage on Monday for charging pad and parking sensor issues. Slight concern over a single occasional knock from suspension when pulling out of my driveway, so I'm getting them to check that out too. Absolutely no issue in getting them to look at it under warranty. Still have 5 months warranty remaining from the garage I bought it from, but that's an 7-hour round trip, so I'll use the local garage for this at least!

Biggest known issue for the car was the buggy screen/infotainment. Software updates have fixed many of these but it still has it's moments. Can occasionally take a minute or two to get the audio going and it told me last week it needed a service - but there is 400ish days remaining according to the app. Knowing how to reset the screen and the TCAM system comes in handy. Other cars such as VW & Hyundai have far bigger potential issues.

I got AI to tell me potential issues to look out for.

Just updated to Android automotive 13 so hopefully plays you tube music a bit better now. Maps have always been flawless on it

Talk in media of moving all polestar 3 production from China to USA, presumably because of 100% tariffs on made in China cars.

I wonder how that will impact Ireland.

great car, had one for 3 years, just gave it back under PCP because I wanted a change and I actually miss it. Never had any issues besides a rear tyre blowout but that could have been anything.
