The 2c NORA levy is suspended from tomorrow 1st April for 2 months.

I've done about 1000km in the last 2 days and noticed this morning a lot of stations have increased by exactly 2c per litre on both P & D from yesterday, just a pure coincidence I'm sure!

The below is a general 'signature' and not part of any post:

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

Public transport user? If you're sick of phantom ghost services on the 'official' RTI sources, check bustimes.org for actual 'real' RTI, if it's on their map it actually exists.

The government mandate how private business run there operations all the time it's nothing new. There should be strong legalisation mandating employers to allow a certain amount of WFH for those its suitable for (e.g. 2 days per weeek) regardless of this latest crisis but this just makes it more pressing something like this be introduced. The default should be a minimum of 2 days unless an employer can give actual proper evidence as to why its not suitable and nonsense reasons like "improving collaboration", "maintaining company culture", "increasing productivity" and other similar made up reasons should be straight in the bin.

Well my point being they will need to do that. I mean theyve already cut excise and prices are creeping back up. That wouldn't address any shortage concerns either.

Plenty of countries have issued wfh mandates in Asia. The UK have advised to change working habits but not mandated wfh yet.

My points are proactive suggestions of course. But i know our government is more reactionary.

The reduction in excise was a can kicking exercise by the government. Prices are again creeping up, it may sound horrible to some but people are going to have to start reducing their car usage to save on fuel costs.

Honestly think a lot of people are oblivious to what's coming in regards price rises now and not just at the pump. Food prices in particular are about to go completely out of control.

With prices rising again this week and probably more significant increases next week i honestly can’t see how the government can go ahead with the carbon tax increase in May .. unless they take significant measures to reduce prices before then.
If issue in Middle East isn’t significantly better over next couple of weeks we will see supply getting scarce.
On radio today they said if the 90 day emergency supply is needed it will be priced at current market value and also it could be used exclusively for the likes of emergency vehicles, public transportation, doctors, nurses and utility workers like the ESB .
It seems also a big run on solid fuel over the last week or so, so it seems some people are not using it ordering home heating oil .. and you can’t blame them.

The govt wont do that because it wants to keep the jobs here.

If we go telling MNCs how many days they have to have their staff WFH, those companies wont be long moving to another country that allows them flexibility and choice.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,878 ✭✭✭BlueSkyDreams

I very much doubt they will need to do it and I dont think they will.

They will advise flexibility but they will stop short of telling private companies that they cant bring staff into the office.

It is an opportunity for more people to utilise public transport however.

They will do what they always do and react once the rest of Europe does.

Ive no idea whether it will be required or not. But if the US put troops on the ground and it all goes as badly as is being predicted then their will be shortages and they will need to mandate it.

And just like covid private companies will fall in line and just like after covid those same companies will still be operating in Ireland.

If there is a global WFH mandate as there was during covid then Ireland will comply.

There is no such global mandate currently and so no need to take that response.

    Has anyone here, stockpiled fuel?

I've brimmed the lawnmower jerrycan and have 10kWh of batteries topped up in case the lecky is cut off 🙂

Anybody here worrying about WFH mandates, fuel rations and restrictions on travel are missing the bigger point - there is no oil shortage here in Ireland. Our supplies from the North Sea aren't getting interrupted by the orange idiots rampage. The price of it will go up as it's a globally traded commodity but there will be no shortage here for a long time

On the flip side, seeing the Asian countries decreasing their usage, and therefore the overall demand, should eventually lead to a drop in prices

With that being said I wouldn't mind an extra bank holiday every week if that's what we get out of it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,555 ✭✭✭PokeHerKing

The countries who can no longer get oil from ME will enter EU markets and that will eat into Ireland's share and also keep the cost up.

A massive global recession is when the price of it will drop.

But by that stage we'd all be sitting in the dark anyway.

This fella trying to sell drama or is he correct? Some airports in Europe will run out of airplane fuel in a week according to him.

The UK has about 4 operational refineries left.

The majority of what they refine is petrol, and they produce so much petrol that they can export it.

The UK is a net importer of Diesel/Kero/Jet A1

If the amount of diesel etc being imported slows or reduces.. then.. it just ain't there.

Im fairly sure Whitegate is also petrol heavy

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,541 ✭✭✭mikeecho

    Whitegate also make HVO

But yeah.. the majority is petrol.

Most of our diesel and kero is imported.

Here's a map of fuel stations in France that have fuel shortages.

I always thought that airplane fuel was expensive stuff but watched the Ryanair show during the week and they were saying it’s actually cheap as chips.

amazing how habits change , we would always have the heating on for a couple of hours still in March .. normally mid April before we stop using central heating completely.
Always get 500L end of March as that always seems to be cheaper month, not this year.
We are running low on oil but not a hope ordering at double the price.

To be honest we aren’t exactly missing it , throw a hoodie or jumper on and it’s fine. I do light the stove for a few hours and keep internal doors open which heats the house a bit. Surprising the oil we use when not absolutely necessary.

I've 4 butane cylinders, for cooking with camping stove or BBQ or heat with a super ser. (And one cylinder of propane)

A full tank of kero 900L

    350L of HVO

    20L petrol for the lawnmower

Some Apsen fuel for a chainsaw

And all the cars topped up

    2T of coal

.. just need to get some firewood.

    Didn't get any toilet paper

I have 3 tanks full of kerosene... 3000 litres in each.

I was thinking of filling an ibc with kero, but concerned about theft, as I'll be away for a few weeks during the summer.

    Edit..

But maybe I should fill with diesel/ hvo.. I could probably heat the house with solid fuel.
