My one is booked back in next month, no doubt the diagnostic testing won't find any faults and as usual the dealer will want video evidence of the issues the car has, can you imagine the drama I would cause if I were to video everyone getting in or out of the taxi incase the random time that the door wouldn't open

I've mine booked in for diagnostics on April 10th. Child lock button wont engage at all for me now and sometimes passengers can open the back door from the inside which might be a safety concern if there was a crash.. you'd think by now they'd have sorted this on new cars

Got mine "diagnosed" yesterday. They couldn't see anything wrong, but I did have a video which they possibly used to triage it. I've been told it's the door lock that's faulty. The same door had the door handle replaced under warranty a few years back. I was told they checked the part against any recalls and there's nothing available for me.

I'll get 2 years warranty on the replacement part (€420 inclusive of labour) and hopefully get it installed in the next couple of weeks. I was told "parts replaced under warranty don't get extended warranty", which seems unbeliveable - Basically they warranty new cars for 2 years and that's it.

Also had them check out my SOS light, and was told I need a new "J949 Emergency control unit". Maybe so, but as far as I can see my SOS module will still perform emergency calls. I wonder if perhaps it's the battery module that needs replacing and resetting. Either way it's not bothering me, and i'd prefer to keep the €1000 they're quoting.

the warranty is 2 years+ year 3 or 90,0000km whichever comes first.

I've got just over 2 years to pay off this thing, can't come soon enough, then it's back to Toyota.

Neighbour had one of these a week and VW had tow truck come and collect it and they had to find there own way to Limerick for the replacement car. No question of driving it in Good introduction to BEV.

Anyone ever get a 12v battery warning that prevented the car from shifting into drive and reverse?

What EV could you have bought at the time that was a better Taxi/PSV than a hybrid Toyota. I can't think of any although fuel prices now would sting even with a Corolla hybrid.

Could have gone for the bz4x but VW's 0% finance was pretty much unbeatable.

Corolla hybrid has become very popular as a taxi but to my mind it's too small in the front, I've seen many passengers struggling to get in.

Possibly the better option would have been a Toyota Camry which , hopefully in a couple of years is what I'll get next, or even the rav4

Any sign of taxi drivers going back to JDM Toyota hybrids if every incentive for EV and penalty against removed?

    Can I say, I think it’s important to note,I’ve had a 261 ID4 for nearly a month now,loving it so far,no issues,doors open and close as normal 😆

I drove to Dingle and back from Wicklow on one full charge each way, having 30 and 38% battery left at either side after each journey

Completely anecdotal here but I sold a JDM Toyota Voxy hybrid to a taxi driver and took their EV taxi as a trade in

Doors opening and closing as normal. What an age we live in

Au contraire, i'm doubling down on the "humour" of VW's **** door handles. Soon I'll be forking out a few hundred to get my "not a recall yet there are many recall codes about it" door lock fixed… again.

Funny when they hinted that my faulty SOS light was "a safety issue" (not covered under any recall) but my childs door not opening (even the emergency backup manual open) was not a safety issue. Anyways, it is what it is.

They're a very poor brand from the customer care point of view. Arrogant as heck.

I had. a VW diesel for nearly 20 years and spent feck all on it

From reading, the serious issues have been with ID4’s from 2020 to 2024

The current model should have those ironed out,I do get how anyone with one of the faulty cars would be angry but I’m not going to sit here and listen to people saying that the new models are a disaster with no evidence

What I’m driving at the moment I’m so far extremely happy with and I spoke with 3 other ID 4 owners with models from various years before deciding

My experience with VW has been good

I’m not one of these people who goes onto Tripadvisor and keeps scrolling until I find a 1 star review

For there to be a serious mess today, there had to be new widespread problems and the fixes would have to be not incorporated into the new builds

I’m also wondering are some VW dealers/garages better than others at customer service, the answer is yes but that’s true of all brands

On my 2nd ID4, never had any issues with door handles, SOS modules, upgrades.....

2026 model here, and sometimes the infotainment system will not connect to Android Auto properly. Spotify streams audio fine, but in the screen where you should see Spotify + Google Maps side-by-side it's all black. I have to give a hard reboot on it to get back to normal.

    Anyone else having the same?

i have something simillar on my id7.. saying 'ok google' seems to fix it for me..

You're lucky, on my second ID.4, both had issues with door handles.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,279 ✭✭✭Trigger Happy

Another here with a 2022 id4 and no issues at all. It’s easily the best car I have ever owned.

  • Moderators, Paid Member Posts: 11,740 ✭✭✭✭Black_Knight

With no issues, i'd say it's a great car! Fact is mine has had its fair share of issues, and in the early days VW couldn't keep up with the number of issues they were treating. MTTR was months. Any issue (3 door handles, an SOS module, and a failed OTA update) required a diagnostic visit (8am drop off, 4pm collection) and at least a day to fix. My 2 fixed door handles, so far, took multiple days to source parts, correct parts and paint), and my failed OTA update took maybe 2-3 weeks IIRC for them to fix. I'm hopeful that my latest door handle will be turned around quicker than previous, but from an overall ownership experience i'd find it hard to buy another new VW.

Overall, great car. Disappointing front seat storage (middle console it just a hole). Shocking build quality (time will tell if newer versions are more robust).

Hi sorry did you get sorted?
Parents have purchased id3 and have an Autel also (came free with VW and signup to one of the elec suppliers).

i've to go over and look at it later. Not co-operating with scheduled charging.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,706 ✭✭✭BrookieD

just booked my 2022 ID4 into Frank Keane for a "Major Patform Update" 97GY what ever that code means. Hoping it brings me out of 3.0.0 and starts OTA dropping to bring me up to date.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 304 ✭✭on_the_roots

Nope. Installer is also not co-operating, telling me to wait for another ~1 month to get a firmware release from Autel to see if it fixes the issues with charger's scheduling and also the uselessness of the PV modes.

Let's see where it gets, but I'm nearly sure I will replace it with another brand.

The faster you can get out of VW the better.

Plenty of choice in the market now and from manufacturers that seem to care about their customers.

Sometimes free stuff is free for a reason. Maybe best to swap it our for a Zappi or similar wallbox

Yes, even though this is not entirely free. This is actually an offer from Flogas in partnership with VW, and they require you to move to one of their EV plans for at least 1 year. Also they take your SEAI grant on that.

However you wouldn't expect them to offer a charger that simply doesn't work with the car you are purchasing, that is non sense.

I'm going to get it solved somehow, even if it requires some hassle.
