It sounds within the bus, the drivers indication is a light on the dash and a ding which sometimes doesn't sound

I have never seen the buses so busy than they are currently. Every bus I get seems to be standing room only or even going past full and this is off peak. In years gone by I only ever remember buses being full at rush hour and maybe the odd time if there was an event like a match or a concert now its all the time.

From what I can see out and about, there is a significant switch to public transport since the fuel price spike. Trains yesterday were as loaded as they are on Thursdays (busiest in-office day of the week).

There is also a constant drip of companies giving up WFH which is adding to rush hour.

It mostly seems to be demographics that wouldn't typicially own a car anyway students and the like. More an observation I've noticed over the last year or so.

Just got a reply from the complaint about the 45a responding late to the stop bell and the switchboard guy replied, saying the bus stopped there for 28 seconds.

Again, it's like these people actually are barely able to read the leters.

Sounds like you rang the bell late, and then the bus stopped at its next stop for twenty-eight seconds. The twenty-eight seconds would be the length of time that the door was open.

Yes, but they didn't seem to read my letter to know that the driver refused to open at first, claiming I hadn't rang the bell when I had. It's like they can't read most of the letter.

The C routes have been overloaded all the time. Worse Tues-Thurs as hybrid workers tend to WFH Mondays and Fridays.

Just a guess but another possibility is that you've pressed the button but it didn't register (happens with those Bluetooth buttons). Have you looked at the screen saying that the bus is stopping? I've seen one passenger a while ago having this issue with even a few buttons one after another.

It was already red but he was still speeding down. Ignorant of it.

Or (and I suspect this is what happened) he pressed it slightly too late for the bus to stop comfortably and safely until the following stop. Either way, the sort of person who'd take the time to make a complaint about something so trivial is not usually worth entertaining. Some day, he might have a genuine complaint… they'll see the name and just dismiss it.

It is also very possible that a situation unfolded on the road that focused the drivers attention so he/she may have missed the fact the bell was pressed.

Happened me one day getting the bus I pressed the bell at the same time a motorcycle cut in front of the bus which quite rightly focused the drivers complete and full attention but as a result he didn't realise the bell was pressed.

People simply dont realise levels of awareness and concentration it takes to drive a 18 tonne vehicle in a city dealing with idiot taxi drivers, electric scooters, cyclists with zero regard for the rules of the road and pedestrians who simply wander out onto the road.

There should be new rules for these stopping bells, because sometimes drivers don't open the doors fully, not letting the stopping bell reset. I've seen some drivers not let the doors fully open
