Digging up this old thread on Swords Open. Strange there's been no other mention of it on boards since 2013 🤔

We had a really enjoyable day out there today for our first society outing of 2026.

Greens were excellent and overall general condition of the course was great.

Layout of the course is a bit quirky with a couple of long walks in between holes but you get over it.

Admittedly I haven't played every golf course in the country but Swords is down there near the bottom of what I have played. The greens are actually grand but a lot left to be said for the rest of it. I had a great score as well when I was last there a few months ago which would generally drive some sort of bias but no…it's not absolutely abysmal, but it's certainly not good.

Ah yeah @Gandalph , not saying it's top 100 but it's well priced, has some ok holes and was in good nick. Worked well for first outing of the year and everyone was happy with it.

God, the rates people talk about here would bring you back in time. €25 for the hermitage, €45 for Portmarnock links. Them days are long gone.

I'm surprised at people's negative opinion of roganstown here though. I've always really liked that course. Maybe back in the days of this thread we were just overloaded with outrageous value golf.

To be fair, I feel that this thread is a bit redundant as this thread is 13 years old and both Roganstown and Swords have come on leaps and bounds since then and likely matured a lot also. I can perhaps understand a bit of snobbiness about Swords but Roganstown is a great course.
