I didn’t realise Model 3’s came with Ions as OEM. How do you find them? Has anyone moved from Michelin/Pirelli to the Ions?

I’ve a 2021 M3P with Pirelli’s which will need to be changed in a couple of months. The Pirelli’s are quite noisy and harsh so I was considering opting for the Ions or even the Ions Flexclimate. Interested in anyone’s experience of either

I replaced a set of Michelin PS4s with Hankook iON FlexClimate about 3 weeks ago. I specifically wanted an all-season tyre that had good wet weather performance. Tyrereviews.com had favourable reports but are limited in number, I assume as they are a recent release.

Have done about 2000km since and am super happy with them, especially given the price point. Ordered off Eiretyres. I find they are slightly quieter on the motorways over the PS4s, simply because I can hear a couple of rattles I wasnt able to before at high speed. This could just be my own bias as well. Definitely not a massive difference either way.

Handling is however just as good also when driving hard on country roads or at high speed, although I suspect warm weather performance wont be as good as the PS4 when the tyres are a bit more fluid. Wet weather performance is excellent, especially in heavy rain.

You wont notice any difference as a daily driver around town.

Also I dont buy into the whole "EV specific" thing. Your driving style will significantly impact efficiency much more than using an "EV" vs "Non-EV" tyre. The main benefit for me is the acoustic liner, which again probably makes a marginal difference.

RSymons did a video and interview with one of Hankooks techs.

Thanks for info. I’ll have a look at that RSymons video to see what he thinks. I probably will opt for either the Ion summers of flexclimate, just not sure which version yet.

I’ve see some reviews which compare the rolling resistance of various tyres but tbh I’m not sure it makes a massive difference in actual range. You’re probably right that the flexclimate wont be as good as the summer version in hot weather but as always we get a lot more colder wet than hot weather in this country.

I find Pirelli's awful. I find the Hankooks just as good as Michelin PS4's

yea I don’t like the PZ4s either, although I seen a couple of reviews suggesting the new PZ5’s are significantly improved.

Possibly, but then you have the Michelin PS5's now which are probably even better again.

EV-specific for a significant and unjustified uplift in price. No thanks.

hi, has anyone taken delivery or test drove the new standard m3, I’m thinking of buying but not sure if what you lose out on makes it worth looking at.

was out at Tesla last week but they didn’t have any to view in sandyford.

I picked up one on the 13th. Very happy with it. The stuff that was taken out, ambient lights, rear heated seats, etc... are not worth stressing over. Scroll back up through this thread and you'll see pictures i put up. (#1308) Have you checked if there's one in Swords pavillions centre ?

I'd imagine the main difference is the frequency selective dampers that are not on the standard.

Although I haven't driven one to compare, in general the highland is a very capable car.

I would also drive an ionic 6 for comparison if in budget

no didn’t try swords, I will though.

is the lack of acoustic glass an issue for you?

wife has a 24 MY, so I’d image the glass and suspension etc are the same in that as they are on the new standard m3.

No, not an issue. It's definitely quieter than my previous 2023 Model Y.

Any one knows if finance rates of 0.99% going away? Tesla rep said rates are going up next month.

Will be interesting to see what replaces the 3.5k trade in deal, if anything.

For what it's worth I was in Tesla in swords and was told they booked 22 orders last week as this Iran war is driving more towards electric and in turn towards Tesla. The 0.99% rate is given per quarter and salesman says they don't know if it will increase as of April.

Could be a bit of a yarn to get me to deposit down now but the there is a string possibility interest rates could rise from fallout of this Iran business so who knows.

I'm picking up the M3 standard tomorrow for a test drive overnight.

An overnight test drive, that's interesting. Was that difficult to swing?

I'm picking up the M3 standard tomorrow for a test drive overnight.

That's a decent test drive alright, I thought I did well getting a few hours on a quiet morning at Cork.

May I recommend you a nice route to take, or perhaps a 1000km challenge?😁

my 251 awd is probably gonna end up with Tesla in the next few days have a deposit on a Y, 32k on the clock and seen a it was a demo when I bought it, it now still has full new car warranty left same as buying new, Black with the upgraded allows, anyone looking for one send me a message, hope mods don’t mind, it’ll be gone by Friday and probably on the Tesla site next week for 45k +, not advertised only made decisions this evening.

No I have twice taken but test drive over last year. I'm in the process of buying a property that has been dragging on so that's only reason on didn't put a deposit down sooner.

I first test drove model 3 and then model Y. He said I could have the model 3 over night and then the model Y as well if I wanted to try both. I'm confident model Y won't fit in my driveway so I'll just stick with M3.

He actually said he could organize to have car dropped off and picked up at my house if I wanted. He was quite eager for me to throw down €250 deposit. I suspect this deposit goes to the sales rep in full .

I live in balbriggan and this was swords branch. The main line customer service agent was not as accommodating but was still booking in the overnight test drive once I said I expected to put down a deposit. I arranged that I can park my own car overnight with them so I'll pick it t up and drive it back to them. Hoping to test the range with a trip to Father in law in Kells wich will be a 2 hour drive (round trip) all motorway.

Deposit does not go to sales rep, in any case it's very easy to get back once you don't take for a test drive (book the test drive in partner's name).

Any one knows if there’s a possibility to get complimentary colour upgrade considering that it’s quarter end?

Leaning towards LR RWD due to added features, although don’t really needs that extra range. I guess they should have launched something between 36.5 & 45k having added features.

Doubt it, I'd say all cars have now been allocated and next deliveries will be May

Maybe if they have cancellations you could pick one up? No harm dropping in and asking

The LR RWD Premium in most markets looks a great buy, but here in Ireland it is caught with €2575 VRT, while the RWD has none. Puts it €8574 more expensive than the RWD. Also any colours etc are going to be more expensive with that VRT.

A pity the RWD Premium was discontinued, the 62kWh LFP battery is very suitable here in Ireland for many.

Will be interesting to see what happens in April, if I was in the market without a trade-in I would probably wait to see before ordering.
