Trump has hijacked NATO and is threatening it openly and frequently. I'd be much more comfortable with an EU only defensive alliance and would much rather Ireland join that than NATO.

What Trump says, what Trump says he will do, and what he does are so often miles apart.

Brent rising again but that shock drop was 14% in 4 minutes. Absolutely nuts movements in such a huge commodity.

There's a lot of that going around it seems.

But I believe there are others who appreciate being informed.

Feel free to contribute or just go read a different thread, go for a walk, or watch telly. Or use the ignore button. I don't care really.

I laughed, and I fully expect his next round of threats will come exactly after the market bell on Friday.

I won't be surprised either if he starts putting distance between himself and Netanyahu.

Trump has TACO'd on his threats to bomb Iranian power plants. Probably something to do with US 10 year treasury yields shooting past 5%. The treasury is also probably interfering with the WTI futures market to keep the price under $100 a barrel and if they are then they will have a huge problem building up for themselves.

Problem for Trump is that there is every likelihood that Iran keeps up it's attacks and blockade. They'd be mad not to inflict as much pain on the global markets to make sure this doesn't happen to them again.

I honestly can't remember the last time I've felt such a relief seeing a headline.

My guess on March 11th wasn't too far out!

Remains to be seen if the bombing ends though. Who are they even talking to though?

What are they doing in the Hyacinth house?

Can imagine the government discussions today will likely include the latest market reactions. If they soften up again with the cuts, I'll go mad

The substantial talks stuff is most likely just absolute rubbish to cover his TACO. It's widely reported over the weekend that the US don't even have anyone to directly negotiate with currently. Yet all of a sudden the war is about to end?

Same aul rigmarole as every other week since this conflict began. Outlandish commentary to calm the market Monday morning then reality dawns as the week drags on, while in the meantime untold damage is being done to the world economy. Oh and don't forget about all of the insider trading clearly going on.

We are going to have another truth social post this evening saying he's going to put troops on the ground because he will be sensitive to all the commentary saying he has TACO'd.

    And we have another TACO.

    What a loser

    That maybe fleeting...

Can you trust anything Trump says at this stage? If i were Iranian given the previous negotiations i would be highly sceptical anyway. What's to say if Iran opened up the Strait of Hormuz to all shipping he wont renege on any deal. The Iranians from their perspective will want guarantees this doesn't happen again in a years time. I would imagine the Gulf states will want a comprehensive agreement for that reason too. Bibi won't be happy if there is such an agreement

Iran: Trump 'backs down' following Tehran's 'warning'

Iran says Donald Trump has "backed down" from attacking its power plants following a "firm warning" from Tehran, according to Iranian media.

The Iranian Fars news agency, citing a source, also claimed there was no direct communication with the US, nor through intermediaries.

The aimless war has achieved nothing. Quite the opposite in fact.

The regime is still in place and from many accounts, the Iranians have rallied around the flag. Regime overthrow could be further away than it was in January. Oil and gas infrastructure is damaged across the gulf and could take years to fix. The rules of international law are further degraded. The NATO alliance is completely fractured. There are millions displaced across the middle east. The hatred towards USA and Israel across the middle east is higher than ever before which will lead to even more extremism. Russia and China benefits as US continues it's international spiral. Trump now looks a bigger clown than ever before and so easily led by war criminal Netanyahu.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth house?

Well I'll take it even if it's fleeting. Vietnam apparently three weeks from running out of fuel so Kuwait not getting wrecked tonight is good enough for me. And my chances of getting home to visit Ireland this summer just went up.

Are we to believe Trump's post that substantive talks had taken place with Iran in the last 40 hours? During that time, Iran had listed numerous targets they were going to hit. Iran has also stated that Trump has backed down.

Mad that you don't know if the US statement is more trustworthy than Iran's

Like I've been saying, this is Iran's MAD and the world will be a better place if they can let them have it instead of rising from the ashes with a nuke ten years from now.

So Trump understood that he cannot achieve what he wants without blowing up the global economy and his Gulf allies getting totally wrecked. Also making a mess of Iran also which was plainly the victim of these illegal acts of aggression which has killed thousands of civilians already.

Good news nonetheless. Hopefully he is not doing another pump and dump with the market to enrich himself along with his cronies. Iran said no communications have happened.

Where do you find all these random Twitter accounts and how can you trust them??

There is always backchanneling going on. Always.

"from many accounts, the Iranians have rallied around the flag"

Where did you see that? (unsurprising but disappointing if correct)

Cyrpuss was used in attacks in Lebananon. I ran didnt attack Cypris, lebanonse groups did.

Azerbaijain may well have been a false flag, there is nothing to support an Iranian attack

I think it is now inevitable that a core group of EU countries will form a defensive alliance. A big big question for us to consider, staying outside it could mean being second-class EU, and raise questions with MNC investment.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 795 ✭✭✭JohnDoe2025

I have seen videos online of Iranian bases and ammunition storage being attacked and blown up with Iranians cheering the explosions. In a world of AI, one can never be sure what is true, but there is little evidence of Iranians rallying around the flag.

Well summarised Cluedo. It won't stop this absolute buffoon from declaring victory and his supporters will lap it up. If Donnie went out and shot someone, it would be the victims fault in their minds'

Well maybe it achieved a slight reduction in greenhouse gasses. Trump has done more for just stop oil, then actual 'Just Stop Oil' achieved.

A bit like Thatcher's environmental policy in the 80s of phasing out Coal.

How about the turnout for the funerals and al Quds day. They(the regime) may not enjoy the support of the majority of the Iranians, but this idea that the díaspora spoke people speak for 90 millions Iranians, i don't believe either. We saw the same propaganda about Saddam having no domestic support whatsoever.

I recall John Major publicily denying that talks were taking place with the IRA back in the early 90s. With this in mind i wouldn't take it as gospel what the Iranian foreign minister is saying here either. There is nearly always something going on behind the scenes
