1 point out of 9 is what is essentially our last easy enough run is devastating. We are now in a situation where our toughest games are coming up, and even with a new manager it is actually a pretty difficult challenge to make top 5 at all. 3 or 4 games ago a new manager could have come in and had a string of positive results giving us buffer for the run in. Now they may come in, and still fail, which would really undermine them. This is now our run in, in order (without assuming we get through in the cups)

    Man City,

    PSG,

    Fulham,

    PSG,

    Everton,

    Palace,

    United,

    Chelsea,

    Villa,

    Brentford

    Brutal.

Especially when the team isn't setup up for a traditional number 9 he looked like a square peg for the time he was available post injury although we'll never know how he would have kicked on post spurs and at least would have given Ekitike less work than he had to do which is probably too much for his age.

Slot's philosophy, above anything else, is that he wants his best players available whenever possible, and in doing so, sacrifices the intensity we used to bring.

Whatever intensity we can bring, seems to last one game a week, maximum.

It's absolutely fúcked us. An insane approach to PL football, that he's stubbornly stuck to, no matter what evidence is in front of him that it's failing

i don’t think we’ll make champions league and if we do then it will be bittersweet because I think FSG will keep with him for next season if we qualify.

It’s sad it’s come to this and Slot has won a title with us and always handled himself with dignity and represents us well in interviews etc and genuinely seems a nice fella.

But the stlye of football is “nice” too, or to put it better, too nice. It’s beige and passive. Our players often look like they’re at the office doing their day job. No passion, no spark. You’d love to give the entire team a shake some days.

It’s the antithesis of Liverpool. We’re a passionate club, we like full throttle attacking exciting football.

Slot is just not a good fit in that regard. And when you combine all that with awful results then all you’re left with is some gratitude for what he did last season, and a feeling that we’re kicking the can down the road if we don’t put an end to this when the season is done.

I think this is a reasonable take.

Part of me is intrigued as to how we would look with the required signings and Slot giving it another go but I think the fan base has had enough. It reminds me of the end of Rafa’s time at the club.

Even in our 2 worst recent seasons (20/21 and 22/23) we finished strongly. Our record in the final 10 games of those seasons:

Our final 10 games of this season are looking like this so far:

Did alright with Barca, did win a league with them in fairness… not sure how he'd do with anyone not-barca though. Would be a risky one.

Everton look to be giving us a helping hand atm. Hopefully the Hammers will help tomorrow.

So many negatives from today. Everytime the ball came near Konate he looked like making a mistake. He wasn't alone, they were all at it. Thought we would sneak a win but as soon as Ekitike went off, we were always going to struggle, Gakpo up front won't score goals.

We might fall over theline and get a CL position, the head to head games with our rivals will be all important and we can raise our game on occasion.

I cannot see Slot starting next season as manage, he has to go.

I don't understand how anyone is still defending Slot it's clear the journey should end. Thanks for last season and good luck.

The gas thing is i still don't think fsg will sack him and weirdly we might still stumble into top 5 - more from inaction of other teams than anything we are doing. We do not deserve Europe and long term I think we need rid of Slot now. This also opens up a bizarre question.

Why do the same players play so differently in Europe versus the league? We seem to play with more intensity in Europe even take Galatasary out of it we just seem more up for European nights whereas we revert to passive mode in the league. This season is a shambles and I've zero faith Slot can turn this around next season.

The race for CL places is always so polite, after you , no after you, no no I insist after you, no no I must insist after you.

Liverpool need to turn a win rate of 46% into 62% for the run in not sure how that happens.

'That sort of language'... You're easily triggered. It's well obvious all season you have difficulty with anyone who doesn't share your hard-on for Slot.

As for comparing Guardiola's troubles - after 18 trophies with City - with Slot's troubles… Nonsense.

    Exactly.

Everton doing us a favour here... though also bringing themselves into the hunt for 5th.

Moyes correctly arguing that Chelsea should have a points deduction because he rightly feels Everton could catch us.

I switched off the game in frustration at the 60 minute mark. Reading the rest of the thread after that, I'm glad I did. Any other team, we say the players are refusing to play for the manager. Utd had it, we are in the exact same boat. Slot needs to go sooner rather than later. We won't be getting that CL place regardless.

Staying in the CL is probably the only thing keeping him in the job. Otherwise, the whole mood feels like it's a matter of when, over the international break, the announcement will be made that Slot and the club have parted ways.

Wow. A gift from Everton. Still a decent chance of CL qualification.

It's actually ridiculous we are still in contention. It's equally ridiculous we haven't got it in the bag already.

Everton play us in 2 games time, they could be ahead of us with a win

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,563 ✭✭✭The Rooster

Well the reason is obvious. We are champions. The lads won the league.People forget to enjoy that and prefer to wallow in a defeat to Brighton. What Arsenal and ManU supporters would give to be champions

So it’s human nature that league football isnt quite as important this season. Nobody deliberately thinks that, but it just seeps in. The CL is the ‘be all and end all’ this season, we might not win it, but the lads will give every ounce in the CL games. You can see from the manager interviews that’s he’s so annoyed with our league performances, but he’s never blamed the players in public, which is proper order. The biggest issue is we don’t have a Souness or Keane figure to keep standards high all day every day. We have some super players, but we don’t have a Souness that drives others, not just themselves

The City team thst cheated their way to the top failed to defend the first time they won. They failed to defend the second time they won. Wenger failed 3 times to defend, and he’s regarded as one of the top managers in the PL era. It’s really tough to defend.

Every time we lose, there is a poster pretending the reaction is kneejerk.

    We lose alot.

I'm not in the slightest bit "triggered".

What you call a "hard on" is what I call showing a little bit of respect to a manager who has won us a league title.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,563 ✭✭✭The Rooster

I didnt mention kneejerk, just the rationale for why our league performances are frustrating and disappointing.

The ‘pretending’ comment is a needless dig, but not untypical.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,849 ✭✭✭✭noodler

    Fair enough.

But rather than trying to gaslight others for noticing the painfully obvious maybe it can just be said that some of the early views on Slot were misjudged.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,508 ✭✭✭mosstin

I mean I don't know where this confidence comes from. We've been getting progressively worse in the PL as the season has gone on. We're poorly coached and remarkably unfit. We'd have to win a majority of our remaining matches to make the Top 5 and I don't see it. In recent weeks, ourselves and Spurs are the soft touches of the PL.

Most League Losses in a Decade: Today’s defeat was Liverpool’s 10th Premier League loss of the season. This is the first time since 2015/16 that the club has hit double-digit losses in a single campaign.

In November 2025, Slot became the first Liverpool manager since Bill Shankly in 1965 to suffer back-to-back league defeats by a margin of 3 or more goals (3-0 vs. Man City and 3-0 vs. Nottingham Forest).

72-Year Domestic Slump: Earlier this season, he oversaw a run of 5 consecutive defeats in all domestic competitions, a feat not matched by a Liverpool manager since Don Welsh in 1953.

    Defensive & Tactical Collapse

Surpassing Last Year's Total: With 31 games played, Liverpool have already conceded 41 goals. This surpasses the total goals they conceded in the entirety of last year’s 38-game title-winning season (41).

Set-Piece Shambles: Liverpool currently hold the lowest percentage of expected goals (xG) from set-pieces in the league (14.9%) and have conceded the second-most dead-ball goals (only Bournemouth have a worse record).

The "Pressing" Death: Slot’s move to a more "measured" style has seen Liverpool’s pressing numbers drop by 20.4% compared to last season. They currently rank as the worst pressing team in the Premier League (141 per match),

    3. Individual & Transfer Records

Worst Start for a Record Signing: Alexander Isak, the club’s £100m+ summer arrival, became the first Liverpool player in over 100 years (since 1906) to lose his first four Premier League starts for the club.
