I rate him way above Thomas Frank but also never said anything about him becoming United manager.

Id be normally happy with a point away from home at Bournemouth but im raging with that...I cannot understand for the life of me how one penalty was given but Amads not. Totally perplexing

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,307 ✭✭✭AidoEirE

Amad was pulled down with force with the defenders hand while Maguire pulled across the stomach back but the forward dived forward.

Both should be a peno or not.

It'll only get worse though. Andy Cole was saying why would he go down?

"Like I said OFF AIR why did he go down, because its easier to get a penalty 9/10 than it is to try and score" he slipped that in their dont know if anyone noticed.

Refs are pretty pointless tbh. No bottle for the hard decisions and listening too lads in their ear.

It was simply because we already got one penalty. Absolutely ridiculous.

    100%

With De Ligt and Martinez being unreliable and Maguire turning 34 next season, we could really do with another experienced PL proven defender. He's only on 50k a week at Bournemouth so wages shouldn't be a problem

Refs and var lads will be scrutinised this weekend. Will be a messy one after that farce, where no1 can say is it for one but not for the other.

I actually thought that the first two decisions were about right and about what I would expect. Cunha looked more like a penalty because he was dragged back and momentum halted.

Amad I thought it looked a bit soft and think he is so lacking in confidence in front of goal he just wanted to go down. Yes there's hands on him but not enough for me. And we all know it, right or wrong, regardless of teams involved you're probably not going to get a soft one having had a pen 5 minutes earlier.

What I'd like to know is why the ref runs over towards Amad on the ground and stares intently as if that's going to somehow help make a decision. What is he doing there?

The way it transpired that Bournemouth scored from it is what is enraging, but it happens.

I actually thought the Maguire one was the real con job. He doesn't drag him back or impede his momentum from what I can see. He puts out a flat arm and the lad takes a very clear dive. Maybe Maguire was going to drag him back but Evanilson dived before he had the chance.

Now that ive slept on it, last night's officiating was absolutely diabolical but this season we've been on the right side of a few dodgy refereeing decisions so it's swings and roundabouts.

That however does not take away from the fact that VAR in the PL is being implemented terribly and needs a full review.

Liverpool are away to Brighton and Chelsea away to Everton today, two potentially very sticky games so hopefully at least one of them drop points.

I honestly don't think either of them should be penos but its **** ridiculous that you give one and not the other, either you give them bot or none at all. The officiating in the Prem is shockingly bad and it'll never change if the people making decisions aren't held accountable. Its not **** rocket science either, its a foul or not a foul, handball or not handball etc rules cant be changing every match or in last nights case during the game.

At least they are consistent i suppose.

Neither of the 2 were penalties, once he gave the Maguire peno he probably had to send hi off, last Sunday Van Dyk pulled Richardson back, though he got his shot away it was a stone walled peno, possible red card, VAR never looked at it

I simply cannot see why people say the Amad one isn't a penalty. Its baffling to me.

The defender literally has both arms on him, is nowhere near the ball and not even trying to get to it, his only plan is to hold Amad and he does it with enough force to cause him to lose balance and spin around, and it happened inside the penalty box.

It isn't soft, it is a stonewall penalty. It is far more a penalty than a thousand other penalties that were given for **** all.

The ref might have been a coward for not wanting to give another one, but the real corruption is with VAR who looked at that incident and said nothing. Every week VAR just love sticking their noses into anything and everything, but they didn't want to get involved in that blatant foul? Not clear and obvious enough? Not worth the ref taking a look at the monitor? **** off.

And then they won't look again at the Maguire incident, which has no grab and a clear dive from the attacker? **** off.

    Mike Keegan

    Article:

Manchester United are today set to make a formal complaint to refs’ body PGMO after they were controversially denied a second penalty in last night’s draw with Bournemouth.

Daily Mail Sport understands Old Trafford officials have been left furious at what they believe is ‘yet another VAR blunder’ which has cost their Champions League chasing side.

Amid extraordinary scenes, forward Amad Diallo appeared to be wrestled to the ground with no attempt to play the ball inside the area with the visitors leading 1-0.

Referee Stuart Attwell, who was positioned just yards away, waved play on and from the resulting passage Bournemouth levelled through Ryan Christie. A subsequent VAR check then failed to overturn what may well have been a two-goal swing.

To rub further salt into the wounds, after United had retaken the lead Harry Maguire was sent off for a foul on Evanilson, before Junior Kroupi tucked away the resulting penalty to level. The view within United is that Maguire’s foul was similar to that committed by Bournemouth’s Adrien Truffert on Diallo, which went unpunished.

Senior officials at Old Trafford believe the foul on Amad was a clear one and that, had the penalty been given, the likelihood was that Bruno Fernandes would have scored from the spot for the second time to give Michael Carrick’s men a 2-0 lead midway through the second-half.

Instead, within a minute the scores were level.

As Daily Mail Sport has previously reported, United have already made representations to PGMO boss Howard Webb following what they see as ‘numerous errors’ which have cost them valuable points. They include the failure to send off Brentford’s Nathan Collins for denying a clear goalscoring opportunity (the offence for which Maguire saw red at the Vitality Stadium), the failure to award them a penalty at Wolves and the disallowing of a goal by Lisandro Martinez in a 2-2 draw at Burnley they felt should have been allowed to stand. Attwell was again the referee at Turf Moor.

Following the game caretaker manager Michael Carrick spoke of his astonishment at what had unfolded. ‘For him (Atwell) to give one penalty and not the other… I find it crazy,’ he said. ‘I cannot understand it. Mental. It’s astonishing. One of them must be wrong.

‘A big opportunity to go 2-0 up and we get one penalty and not the other. It's exactly the same thing really - a two-handed grab. He's got one wrong so, I don't know which one but he doesn't give us the second one.’

Carrick’s view is shared by those above him at United who are fully behind their manager.

It is understood that Jason Wilcox, United’s director of football, plans to raise the matter with Webb later today in a formal capacity.

United will also now be without Maguire for their clash with Roses rivals Leeds United.

In addition, with the score at 2-2 and the 10-men visitors attempting to see the game out for a point commentators expressed surprise when nine minutes were added on.

United are also likely to ask for an explanation of where those nine minutes came from.

PGMO have been contacted for comment.

The draw leaves third-placed United looking over the shoulders at the chasing pack of Liverpool, Aston Villa and Chelsea. Villa can close the gap to a single point with victory over West Ham tomorrow.

Well at least they're standing up and fighting their corner. Even though I'm not really convinced on the Amad one, United have bent over for years to the referee authorities.

Welbeck doing us a couple of big favours against them lot today.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,673 ✭✭✭✭johnnyryan89

Mentioned before he's a free agent in the summer and it would be a no brainer to try and sign him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 922 ✭✭✭ngunners

Hear, hear. Since when is pushing an attacker with both hands as he dribbles past you in the box anything other than a stonewall penalty.

In other news, Danny Welbeck is having a brilliant season.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,199 ✭✭✭✭FourFourRED

    #WelbzBack

Sounds like a great plan. Need to have two striker options, and I don’t mean Mbeumo.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,673 ✭✭✭✭johnnyryan89

Yup, having the one actual proper number 9 is coming back to bite us yet again. If Welbeck was willing to come back and finish his career at United it's a no brainer if he's on a free and allows you to spend extra funds on another position that's also badly needed.

We surely have CL in the bag.

If we match Liverpool's results for 5 games, we have it.

    Chelsea hopefully drop points also.

    Well played agent Welbeck

    Now I'm even more annoyed!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,673 ✭✭✭✭johnnyryan89

Makes last night even worse than we should be 9pts ahead of Liverpool right now and 10pts ahead of Chelsea before they play later. Hopefully James Garner is feeling inspired later this evening.

this result is great opportunity to be less angry

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,771 ✭✭✭All_in_Flynn

Win last night and I think we were a mortal lock to qualify for Champs League given the Liverpool result but it's still a decent point. Be even better if at least one of Villa or Chelsea drop points too.

Not seeing much difference to the pen shout Brighton had to the Maguire incident last night.

Glad to see Carrick and the club getting angry. A criticism under Amorim is that I thought he lacked that bit when decisions went against us. I think it's important.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,339 ✭✭✭Iseedeadpixels

True but we should be further ahead, the general thread might cheer me up 😬

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,600 ✭✭✭IncognitoMan

It's one less game on the board for Liverpool to catch up and we've moved a point further ahead.

Best of a bad situation from last night. Hopefully Chelsea and Villa drop points as well

I thought Brighton took up an option to extend Welbeck a few weeks ago?

All 4 of us are inconsistent really, we've been most consistent since January though.

We just have to match their results for 5 games and we have it.

We'll have a budget of maybe 300 million in the summer then.
