Looked at 2 cars last weekend for my daughter,2013 Golf and 2014 Leon.

Leon had Bridgestones,Golf had a mis match of no name brands. Even visually, the Leon was such tidier overall thank the golf, and we bought it.

Shoes don't make the man,and turwa don't make the car,but they often reflect the overall care the car received in believe.

someone dodged a bullet anyway, NCTd only a week and the clutch went today on it. The smell of burning was unreal. Was lucky enough I was just off the motor way and it’s sitting in an apple green now waiting on the scrappers to pick it up and I’ll get 166 euro for it. There was no signs of it going.

I’m happy that this did happen today to be honest now before it happened someone else. Was putting up the add this weekend. Not worth getting the clutch and flywheel done and letting off for a grand. It’s a pity because it’s a good engine.

That's a shame. It's usually emissions that kills them

I got a few pms about it so said I’d let people know. Yea it is, rather it happen now than someone getting a dud that I didn’t know would happen

There was no signs of it going.

They usually don't just go(but that can rarely happen like yours) and usually start to slip so you know it's on it's way out.

Maybe try OCG in Clane /Naas (they're on Adverts) and you might get more for it.

You're probably already taking out the battery. If not, depends on the reduction, and the battery age from your pov, but sometimes they only knock a tenner off and you get to keep a 100+ battery.

I bought a 131 Nissan qashqai maybe 4-5 years ago. Crapped out with bad engine compression after a year. Paid 6k i think. Got 1200 from copart.ie. They came and lifted it for free. Maybe an option. Cert of destruction also although I think they cannablise parts.

Had a very enlightening chat to a scrap yard owner one time. They pay different prices for different cars (quelle surprise!!) It strangely doesn't even reflect back that much to the original sticker price either

They want main stream cars that were popular maybe 10-15 years ago and had a decent reputation for reliability (soo are worth fixing). They are the most prized as they are the ones where owners are now looking for bits & pieces for.

Scrap man doesn't want your high end sports car or luxo barge, its just going to be taking up valuable space in his yard for years with no one wanting parts from it.

Soo think back to lets say 2013… what were the best selling cars??

Interesting - we've a 09 Qashqai that failed on a rotten subframe sitting outside and I need to get rid of it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,725 ✭✭✭Mad_Mike

Is it the subframe or the rear swing arms (trailing arms)
Herself had a 09 and it failed on the arms a couple of years back and she had them replaced and still got decent money for it when she sold it this time last year.

I'm selling this, borderline Bangernomics territory:

Constructive feedback welcome on the ad too, thanks!

    My tuppence worth.

Positives : Its a very good advert. They were a very futuristic design at the time and the styling has aged well and imo its still a very desirable car. Its a good colour/spec and the mileage is not too bad. I think you could probably go up on the price, upto €3700 or maybe even €4000.

Negatives : Try to clean the back seat and the passenger seat they seem to have some stains.

Thanks. I wet-vacced the interior recently, but the stains are like calcium deposits - they just appear where the fabric is wetted and dries out. I'll give it another go with a cloth.

Is that what those Honda Civics are going for now?
