I bought a T5 2.5 Transporter about 16 months and only put HVO in it after the first month or so, no issues.

It's not a very modern engine, no DPF, but runs quieter on it.

I am using HVO100 in a 2025 land cruiser since early January, engine sounds quieter on cold start, and normal driving.

The DPF regens at the usual interval, in terms of fuel economy it appears the same as similar drives on normal diesel shows the same L/100km in the Toyota app.

filled up today with HVO100, regular diesel was 1.738c L and HVO100 was 1.888c L

so HVO100 15c more expensive per L. would be a 12€ difference over a full tank compared to regular diesel.

    on an 80km drive today I got 8.7L /100km 32.4MPG

It very much depends where you buy it. In Kildare, Top Oil in Toughers is 10 cent a litre dearer than standard diesel whereas in McLoughlins Newbridge its the same price at the moment (172.9). Its worth trying to find a Certa that stocks HVO as they normally price close to standard diesel too.

    past Circle K exit 7 M1 earlier, HVO100 now 212.9 L was 188.9 on March 1st. 24c L increase.

at that new price it would be €170 to full up from empty.

F*&kers for lumping the price up like that.. No need and they could have used this as a chance to push the use of HVO…

Supply is limited and if they said low then in there they would run out and then what

Mad stuff why would HVO prices go up if it’s production is not dependent on Middle East but renewables we were told

    Unless that’s a lie

Supply for HVO is constant with limited ability to increase.

So demand for HVO is almost completely linked to its price relative to the alternative, regular diesel.

With the price of regular diesel increasing, HVO becomes much cheaper relative to it.

If HVO does not increase its price in line with regular diesel, demand will increase substantially and exceed supply, leading to shortages.

whenever I fill up with HVO100 since early Jan, it is always exactly 15c more expensive than regular diesel per L.

    when HVO100 was 188.8 L diesel was 15c cheaper.

when HVO100 was at my last fill, 224.9c /L diesel was 15c cheaper per L

if I let the tank run down to near empty it would cost €179.92 to fill up… at that price

the cleaner fuel is more expensive, where i buy it.

Except HVO is already and always more expensive than diesel to begin with

This is plain price gouging or worse we were all lied to by yet another greenwashing scheme

    Where is the price gouging?

You don't have to buy it.

Price gouging is a pejorative term for the practice of increasing the prices of goods, services, or commodities to a level much higher than is considered reasonable or fair by some.

Now maybe there is something missing such as they were accepting a loss on HVO in order to comply with some unknown license requirements but otherwise, it's price gouging.

If there is price gouging, its not by the cashiers on zero hours contracts in service stations who are bearing the brunt of the abuse, (especially when they are people of colour).

These are the "some" in this line from your post.

"Price gouging is a pejorative term for the practice of increasing the prices of goods, services, or commodities to a level much higher than is considered reasonable or fair by some".

It's the same people who abuse the front line staff in our social welfare offices and public health services.

It's all about entitlement and victimhood and nothing about responsibility

Israel and America are wholly to blame for this, of course our bending the knee to the alter of USFDI and accusations of antisemitism pretty much stifle any discussion.

I don't think anyone ever implied it was by cashiers. I certainly haven't ever given out to a cashier over the price of something in a shop, and have seen no examples of the "brunt of abuse" you are claiming is being thrown at cashiers. If there is (and I have seen no sign of it), it really is by the uneducated, anyone with even a modicum of common sense knows it has nothing to do with them.

This doesn't mean a person cannot think that the price increase is unfair or unreasonable.

My local station is privately owned, and their prices haven't jumped as much (in regards petrol and diesel, they don't sell HVO). Maybe the owner is hedging bets the next delivery won't be as much, many business owners probably thinks they are fools but locals appreciate it.

    It's like banging a drum

REFINERS set prices of refined fuel - makes no difference whether its petrol, diesel, kero or HVO.

It's not the importers or the distributors or the retailers. They take a miniscule mark-up. - About 12c-15c per liter combnined between them.

REFINERS set the price according to demand.

20% of European diesel and 30% of European kero & jet fuel came from the middle east. That is now ZERO. Hence the refiners worldwide have jacked up the price of all diesel / kero / jet fuels and any substitutes.

btw - if you bought Valero shares (major refiner) 3 weeks ago, you'd be sitting on a 25% profit! https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/VLO/

I asked Certa the same question, how does a vegetable derived fuel cost as much as a fuel that is mined , and then refined.

    Got a waffle answer

    Isn't it demand based?

The demand rockets up because of the increased diesel cost and now everyone wants HVO so your asset value increases in line.

    Murky though, for sure.

The Applegreen in coinscross wicklow have disconnected their HVO pumps for some reason.

all other sells are still lashing up the price with every diesel change.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 65 ✭✭sruthair

filled up with HVO100 2.239/L 15c /L premium over regular diesel.

    Topped up yesterday. 2.14⁹

    6¢ over regular diesel

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17 on the bog

I suspect somewhere in the supply chain real diesel is being added, or just plain old price gouging if one applies Occam’s razor

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,541 ✭✭✭mikeecho

Or fuel is a commidy , and it sells at the market rate of the day.

Gold could have been mined 50yrs ago, bit it is sells at today's rate.

What makes you think they are adulterating the fuel?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17 on the bog

That would make sense if HVO became cheaper than diesel hence increasing demand but it’s not, and why the increase conveniently occurred when diesel itself went up
