Definitely not Derek as I only had to read it once to understand it 😅

Seriously though, I’d love to see the team who played this challenge game named.

Conor Prunty had his operation on his quad.. chap can barely walk at moment... unfortunately zero chance of him being fit for championship imo.

I think everyone is well aware of the challenge playing Clare in Ennis.

They are coming in under the radar from 1b which will suit them down to the ground. A poor year last season after being AI champions, they will feel they have a point to prove and I would certainly expect them to hit the ground running.

yeah. I know. Any good hurler that ever lived has a kk reg lineage…..🤣

I think we are gone beyond picking one game as a 'banker'

The truth is that we need 4 points from 4 games.. any of 4 games.

If we believe, and I do, that any team in Munster can beat any other team on a given day, than the task in front of us is to prove this point, twice. However the odds are against us.

Is it possible to go to Ennis and get 2 points? Probability 50/50

Is it possible to beat Cork at home? If we do not afford them the respect we did last year. Probability 40/60

Can we take Tipp at home. Somehow I feel they have our number more so than Cork. Probability 35/65

Limerick away. We just have not been able to challenge them at all in last few years Probability 30/70

That's what I feel at present but what makes Munster so mad is. as the winners and losers from each round emerge, the whole balance adjusts.

    4pts from 8pts available. Impossible ???

Think it’s more a sign of the great work being done by St Mollerans club

Think you're being generous there, there's no way Clare is a 50/50 game. Given our wretched record in Ennis I'd give us a 30% chance at best.

40/60 v Cork also probably a little optimistic, again would probably go 30% at best and same v Tipp.

30/70 Limerick away is even too optimistic, again an absolute graveyard for us - would think 10-20% if I'm brutally honest.

4pts may be enough but at this moment in time it's just so hard to even see where one win could come from.

    That's the spirit

2 years ago we were bet out the gate in nearly every league game and relegated to 1b. We also bounced back to turn over cork at home in our first game. We gave Clare (league and ai champs that year) a right rattle down in Ennis that year too and were unlucky not to come away with something.

All this talk of Ennis and even Walsh Park being hard places to go is just media waffle. Clare didn’t win a game there last year and we’ve been on the end of plenty of hidings at home.

Like it’s been said, anyone is capable of beating anyone in this championship and if we can get a strong 15 out we should fear nobody.

Worse again. We gave Tipp a draw in Walsh Park when we were home and hosed. Looking back…how did we manage not to qualify.

I see Dessie rattling on about how much Waterford miss knock out hurling. If he doesn't realise by now, that every game in Munster is as good as knock out, he feckin' well should.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,757 ✭✭✭Mastermcgrath

This negativity coming from within the camp needs to be shut down. Queally is the biggest culprit for whinging about the system to the media and now it’s transcending onto the players. if you give yourself an excuse for defeat before you even enter the arena there’s only going to be one outcome. Mullane dosent help either banging on about in the media every week. In fairness to Dan Shan he’s the only I’ve heard say ‘we’re in it to win it’ about the Munster championship and he’s right if you done have the belief to win it how can you expect to come third.

If Dessie, or anyone else in the camp for that matter, wants knockout hurling, they have to drop this bs about the round robin system first. It’s tough, we get it. Everybody gets it. No other county shites on about it though like we do. It’s handing the psychological advantage to the opposition before a sliothar is thrown in.
The draw against tipp two years ago saved Cork from going out. They scraped through and went on to narrowly lose the AI final.
It’s all to play for. I’m sick of the negativity.

I don't agree with this. We lost 4 games in the league in 2024, each of them by a score and down a number of players that returned for the Cork game. By contrast, I don't think the team that lined out against Tipp will be far away from the championship side.

Limerick are the only visiting team that have been comfortable in Walsh Park in Championship. Our record is W3 D1 L4. On the road, its W1 D1 L14.

    The difference is stark.

20’s are out next Wednesday night against Clare up in Sixmilebridge. Last few years minors results which I imagine will be forming this years 20’s below:

    2025 – Won 1-21 to 1-15 in Dungarvan

    2024 – Lost 0-22 to 0-13 in Ennis

    2023 – Lost 0-20 to 1-16 in Dungarvan

    2022 – Lost 1-22 to 1-8 in Ennis

Not pretty reading and you could nearly disregard last years win given it’s unlikely many/any from last year’s AI winning team will be involved? Fairly unpredictable at this grade though so hopefully that underage feel good factor carries on from last year and we'll see how a few have developed since minor the last few years. Is there a panel list somewhere?

we have knockout hurling most year, theres always a game we need ot win to get out of munster, and we invariably lose those games

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,757 ✭✭✭Mastermcgrath

Is this equivalent Clare u20 group that won the minor AI? A couple of decent trimmings there but think we have closed the gap and I reckon our u20s won’t be far off the pace and might even surprise a few people.

Great too see and hopefully the good work continues

Could we see a 'Combined Waterford City Schools' team (excluding obviously DLS College) compete in the Harty Cup someday ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,385 ✭✭✭seananigans

nope , a combined Dungarvan colleges was too successful so they prevented amalgamated teams, despite the fact the combined schools were about 800,versus 11/1200 for DLS

Waterford City has one of the strongest Harty cup schools in DLS albeit they’ve underachieved in recent years .The combined colleges concept was for areas where players wouldn’t otherwise get the opportunity to play Harty Cup. There is zero chance of combined colleges team ever coming from the city area

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,385 ✭✭✭seananigans

With Ballygunner opening their own mainstream secondary proper they will likely hollow out DLS , and we could see an opportunity for it.

DLS had a harty team just gone who strangely had a player from MT sion club but was a DLS student, which i thought odd . will be interesting to see how it rebalances in coming years
