F1 wanted to diversify the engine manufacturers and have been chasing Audi for years. Audi were not going to join F1 unless the sport introduced new engine regulations featuring more electrical influence which they planned to do with their road cars which is to increase the share of electrical power in their road engines.

Antonelli pole position. He’s not leaving Mercedes anytime soon

    From 2022
Markus Duesmann, chairman of the Audi board, said on Friday that the German car company had officially registered as a power-unit manufacturer in F1.

Duesmann added Audi's decision had been made because of new rules that feature an increased electrical component in engines and fully sustainable fuels.

Duesmann said the increased proportion of power from the hybrid part of the engine matched with Audi's decision to move towards being a fully electric manufacturer

F1 changed the rules so dramatically to appease Audi in alot of peoples views.

The positive from qualifying was how relatively close the top 3 teams are. Hopefully as the season progresses McLaren and Ferrari get closer to Merc.

Aside from running out of energy on the back straight it looked a proper qualifying. The race will be different but perhaps we'll all adjust to it eventually. We need more info on the battery levels of competing drivers to help our engagement.

Solid lap from Antonelli but I fully expect him to be passed by Russell and Hamilton into turn 1. Awful for both Redbulls to be out qualified by Gasly, can't see Verstappen troubling Mclaren

Judging by the sprint race, he will be passed by 3 or 4 other cars before he reaches the start line…

He needs to learn from Russell how to nail the starts, and quickly.

These regs could drive verstappen out if this is the direction F1 is going.

F1 is just a better spectacle with Hamilton in the mood and on form. Likewise Verstappen.

Unless RedBull get competitive I'd expect him to do a Montoya and just wander off mid-season.

He doesn't seem like the type to hang around for the sake of it, not when he has other interests that require his attention.

This is probably worse than DRS, at least DRS used detection points which penalised a mistake from the car behind or gave the car in front an advantage for driving quicker.

Starting on the clean side, I'll give him a fighting chance. He also needs to out the silly mistakes, looking like unless Russell has car trouble he'll run away with the championship. Wouldn't be one bit surprised to hear the Verstappen to Merc rumours kicking off soon

the new regs were designed specifically to attract more manufacturers to the sport - and they all had input.
considering Cadillac, Audi & Ford joined, and Honda reconsidered leaving, I’d say F1 see that part at least as being a huge success.

I’m just not sure I’ll be buying a new car based on their participation in F1

I hope he gets a good start tomorrow, unlike he did in the sprint race.

Good morning. Bad omen for Ferrari this morning in F1 Academy, Alba Larsen went wide on the final corner from a safety car restart leading the pack and dropped what was a near sure win.

    This too shall pass.

    Good morning all.

Looks like Lando has some possible race ending issues. Pit lane start at the least.

Both Ferraris to leap frog to the front you’d imagine, how long can they stay there though. Hope Max gets a decent start today.

Six cars out of the pitlane, different meaning usually when people rush out of the pitlane

Ugh both Red Bull’s starting on the soft tyre. Come on Max, decent start from you today please.

Any word on what is wrong with the McLarens? I’m guessing engine related.

Different issues for the McLaren cars, that is more worrying.

    Lol penalty for Gasly please.

Great start from Antonelli but you can't do much about those Ferrari starts.

He did well to keep LeClerc behind him.

Hadjar having the opening lap from hell, but still rolling.

why does Croft have to shout constantly? I really really wish they'd just get rid of him

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 11,556 Mod ✭✭✭✭Andrew76

Man this fake overtaking is utter shite.
