can’t say I’ve accidentally pressed it. But the Adoptive cruise control usually adjusts based on speed limits

I was busy mashing the buttons looking to turn it off when I pressed it so maybe not that accidental, but still surprised a button push would move the car as opposed to having to press the accelerator first.

Same as any cruise control in any car really

I can't get the adaptive cruise control to work on our ID4 (24) similar to our ID3 (23). In the ID3, when in D mode and you approach the car in front, the car will automatically brake when you get too close.

On my ID4, the car will continue to roll towards the car until (I'm guessing) the emergency brake kicks in. I can't for the life of me find a setting to change it.

Do other people's ID4s brake automatically when you get close to a car in front? Any idea what setting to change?

I checked earlier. From a parked position pressing res alone does nothing till pedal is pressed

You can change to ACC via the steering wheel

    Hello,

I have a 2021 VW ID.4 and I'm wondering if anyone else's right-side steering wheel haptics are acting up?

Mine has never really worked correctly. I’ll go to press the volume up and it skips the track instead—it’s like the module can’t distinguish between a swipe and a press anymore, or it just has no idea where I’m actually touching.

Also, sometimes when I press one specific area, the whole unit feels like it’s being pressed down at once rather than just the one "button," if that makes sense? It feels really clunky. Luckily it’s not the cruise control side (left) yet, but the right side is a total mess.

Anyone else dealing with this, or have you managed to get it sorted? To be honest, why they used these in the first place is beyond me. I much prefer the solid, standalone plastic buttons you get in older cars.

The dreaded door handle issue has recently begun on my 2021 1st edition. For the couple of weeks the drivers door handle has taken a couple of goes to open. I was in denial until one of the rear doors wouldn't close properly earlier today. After several attempts the door did eventually catch. The two likely need replacing.

Can anyone confirm if there is a recall on the door handles in Ireland for 1st editions models? I've seen mixed reports online. I'm clearly long past the warranty period.

Anyone got them replaced outside of warranty? Any idea on cost and if I would need to go the the VW dealer or could an independent garage do it?

Has anyone else had the flap / cap of the charging port knocked off by a passing car

Happened mine last night when it was open and charging on a public road

Now I can see the benefit of the port being in the front like the leaf etc

    Hi

    Just looking for advice.

About to purchase a 2022 VW ID.4 77 KW Battery.

    Deciding between 2 cars.

Both cars have similar mileage Approx 65,000 KM.

Only difference between the 2 cars

    1. Has 204 BHP costs about €1,500 more
    2. Cheaper car has 174 BHP

Does BHP between 2 cars make a big difference to range, driving etc?

    Advice greatly appreciated.

    Many Thanks

Many folks wont notice the difference especially if you’re moving from an ICE with less bhp/torque. That said, the ID.4 is a heavy. Drive them both to make up your mind. If they’re identical otherwise, I’d be tempted to pocket the €1500.

Unless you're towing, then the only practical benefit I have found for more power is better overtaking ability on single lane roads.

The BHP would be all about acceleration.

My first test drives before buying cupra born in 2022 were back to back drives of a 204bhp id3 and a 174bhp id4 and there was a fair difference in acceleration if you went looking for it (salesman told me about power difference and to test power in both so I was tuned into the difference).

That said day to day may not make that much of a difference to you unless you like that acceleration feeling

Thanks very much for all comments. very helpful.

Forgot to mention, there is a towbar on the 204 BHP - would you think twice about buying it as not sure what it was pulling before this

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,502 ✭✭✭MojoMaker

    A bike rack most likely.

Check the towball for wear, that should indicate if it’s done any serious towing. Worth a bit of money if it’s the factory towbar.

Tow bar on an id4 costs over €3K.

I sat in one today. Wasn't planning on it as I was looking at Camrys. 2023 Pro, Japanese import. 30,000 kms on it. It felt like quite a pleasant place to be. I've a 2018 Honda hybrid at the moment. I watch EV Man UK weekly and still remember the 'like a pot noodle, but with the flavoured sachet removed!' verdict in his ID4 review from years ago.

My old job commute was 97km round trip. Now I go by public transport. Drove to Down this morning for parkrun, so that was 220km as a roundtrip. Did Dublin-Kerry in January which was 340km one way. Bigger journeys are a choice, not a necessity. However, I am considering moving to Waterford and would still have to do two days in Dublin for work. About 206km one way. If I stick with ICE it would be easier for those occasional long trips, but maybe that's enough of a reason. I know range anxiety with EVs has fallen away as a concern, compared to years ago.

TLDR. It's the home charging situation that's a bit harder to solve.

Feels a bit mad to be even thinking about it as I've done no research, apart from reading the posts here back to October/November and flicking through some videos.

some updates recently announced keyless entry, V2L, one pedal driving, red light detection, upgraded travel assist etc.

will this be only for cars made from April, or will the existing fleet on V5+ get the upgrades

Have a 251 ID4, Spotify drives me nuts. It used to work just fine, now its a lottery of tapping it and either works (mayb 20% of the time) or shows me a QR to sign in then works, or just stalls after 20 songs.

Is this just a thing or anything I can do ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,108 ✭✭✭✭ted1

same here , so I just use Spotify via carplay…

Have been doing a bit of digging with AI today to try to see what's what on the upcoming new id3 neo pro versus the born + . Both cars apparently will retain the NMC 59kWh battery but according to AI the motors will be different. According to a few different questions I asked it consistently came back with the answer that the id3 neo pro will retain the existing APP310 motor and that the Born + will be fitted with the newer APP 350 motor. I was surprised at this as I thought the motor used would be the same for both as is currently the case. Can anyone confirm or deny this? Is this some bs from AI and not to be trusted??

anyone have a rough idea of the cost to replace one of these door handles?

    Parts + Labour + vat ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,116 ✭✭✭Mr Q

I can't confirm what you posted but the Ford Explorer with the smaller battery is now LFP. So I would assume this will be in the ID range soon with the 350 motor.

Not what the press release says. The id 3 will get the new battery

    Door handle anywhere from 300+
    Door lock 440 including labour

Have now been told the driver side door locks (front and rear) have failed. They were already replaced when the car was under warranty. Dealer asked VW if the replaced locks were under warranty, computer said no.

So I called VW customer service and complained as to, waiting for them to come back (2-3 day sla).

Very unhappy with all the problems I’ve had with the door handles/locks.
