I have noticed the S26U screen brightness goes really high for no reason. Has anyone else noticed this? Adaptive Brightness is on.

That sounds like the setting that turns the screen brighter to highlight your face for facial recognition in a dark room. You can turn it off in the security settings

If outdoors or facing a window, it could even be that big ball of hydrogen in the sky showing it's face more this week.

Googling it says that it's been around for a few years as part of theft protection in security settings. It isn't on by default, so would have to be manually activated.

Finally got into the settings. Bright Screen is off. So perhaps it's a software bug and likely to go away with upcoming updates.

    First impressions.

Display is very good. Dont know what all the talk was about. I think a lot of it was on reddit by people who actually didnt buy the phone. I saw one post and he was talking utter s… about the phone. A few things he said had me concerned that he never had the phone in hand and when another poster pulled him on the exact thing i saw he stopped replying. Same as some Youtube reviewers you need to take will a pinch of salt.

Privacy display works as it is meant too. Of course the screen will be dimmer. Its a nice feature if you commute a lot or are out at clubs pubs etc.

Phone is very snappy. I have the face unlock and it works so fast. Maybe the slightly larger camera hole helps.

I have not tried the cameras too much but they look sharper than my S24U and definately better than the Edge.

Battery will be all day easily. Make sure you have a 5a usb c cable and a 60w plug to avail of 3.0 super fast charging. I have one that i got a few years ago with my Book 2 but the cable in the box will not charge at 60w no matter what plug you have.

I really like the design and feel of it. So much better than the S24U IMO but thats very subjective.

I got the same deal as you. Went for the 256gb. Cleaned out about 80gb of crap.

I've noticed the same as you. There seems to be a lot of people online who have strong opinions on this phone in particular and a good few i'll bet have never held it but dissing the screen as if its an old LCD from the 90s ha. The screen is perfect IMO. I'm coming from S23Ultra and the jump is a nice one, would i be as impressed coming from the S25U probably not but the days of upgrading every year are gone for most people i think.

I only upgrade as the price is right. Top end phones will easily lst 5 years now if you mind them physically

Excuse my ignorance but i see some advertised from shops on donedeal as EU/Irish model priced at significantly less than Samsung website or other large retailer.

I'm seeing one done deal shop with S26 at €775.00. I bought a Samsung S21 FE years ago from same shop and it is still working albeit with not so good battery life now. The shop was based in clondalkin and now looks to be in Kildare.

It is advertised as new with 2 years Samsung warranty.

So what is the catch and what's the risk?

How are they able to sell these for less than retailers like Harvey Norman etc? Are they the exact same as what i would be buying in HN or currys or what is the difference?

The S26 is so new I would assume it's unlikely that theese are refurbished rather than new.

Cheap to replace. I only charge my phone to 80%. The edge after 10 months is still at 100%.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 950 ✭✭✭Nickindublin

All of these phones are imported. The big difference is you wont get a Vat receipt and also if you need a warranty claim. Also most wont take a trade in. I would presume the EU model Samsung would have to honor the warranty but maybe not the Asian one. Also like with other companies it may not be the 2 year warranty Samsung offers.

I'd say you'll also struggle to insure them, if that's something you'd want to do. I doubt the receipt the shop gives you will stand up once it comes time to claim.

They are what is known a grey market goods. Not stolen or illegal but not 100% legit with revenue. They are brand new in the box & with 2 years part's & labour warranty. I can't buy them because mine is a business phone. The grey market phone gets you a shop receipt. I need a VAT receipt & they won't give you one. This is the only catch. I have bought phones for my wife & daughter from them & we were very happy with them. I have traded them in, on the Samsung website Many times without any issue at all. Samsung don't see them any differently as any other Samsung phone because the grey market literally just means they are bypassing the VAT somehow. Apart from the VAT they are 100% legit

You will notice they are taking pre orders for the S26. Infact it will take them a few months to get these in stock. They aren't Irish model phones. They are EU models so takes awhile for them to reach the market here. They come with Samsung's 2 year parts & labour warranty. I would have absolutly no worries buying these phones. If I thought for a second they could be stolen I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole. I'm a firm beliver in "if people didn't buy stolen goods then goods wouldn't be stolen"

There is a cohort of people who look at specs only and if a spec is in anyway lower then it must be worse. It means you could review something without ever seeing it - the nits are lower but the resolution is the same so therefore worse screen. I hate these types of reviews. It should be experiential. If you can't see the difference in screen brightness as a normal person then who cares if it goes to a certain number of nits or not.

    Hi guys, how are you?

Thanks to yous last year I got my S25U for a great price (1200€ with basically no trade with Galaxy Watch 6 & Buds 3 Pro) and I was wondering what's the best deal / discount at the moment. I saw on the italian community (I'm from Italy living in Ireland) that there is a new 150€ discount in the cart (there) + some other PayPal discount etc

Did they start any new discount / great offer here aswell?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 950 ✭✭✭Nickindublin

You missed the pre order 15% everysaving discount code and double storage. All is left now is trade in and 150 paypal check out

Those that had the S25U, is it worth upgrading to the S26U? I’ve kinda grown out of having to buy every series of Samsung / Apple unless the changes are significant.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,080 ✭✭✭TheRona

No, it's not really worth it. Similar step as going from S24U to S25U. If you can do the upgrade for a few hundred euro, then go for it. Otherwise, I wouldn't bother.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14 AboutDex

Yeah I saw that initial discounts but all together the upgrade for me was around 400€ and I felt it was not worth it.

I hoped to get a better discount or the chance to stack them..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 115 ✭✭ImTiredOfItAll

It's definitely not worth it now. Pre order 15% discount is gone and double the storage is gone. It's just too expensive without these pre order perks.

At this stage you will be better off selling your S25u to CEX and buying a grey market version on DoneDeal or Adverts.

There is very little difference between the two phones. Most notable difference on the hardware is faster wireless charging and privacy display. There is much begger difference in the software. Many added AI features but these should be available on the S25u when they update the software in the next few months

Just got an ad/notification on my Fold that MEMBERS26 gives 5% off the S26 series.

Fairly bad given the 15% off we've had for pre-orders but might be of use to someone!

Has anyone bought it from Three? If you did do you know if it is locked?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 4,125 ✭✭✭Nigzcurran

They are locked but they will unlock them when asked

Only have the phone a week but first update arrived today. Usually they push these out quickly if there are major issues. This supprised me because mine has been flawless since I got it

These are 100% legitimate phones and of course you can insure them & will have no issues claiming from the insurance. Grey market only effects the VAT.
