RTÉ felt it wouldn’t attract the same audience numbers and cancelled it, it saved Keilty face while RTÉ also cancelled Fair City for the same reason.

It shows that RTÉ have little faith in their home produced programmes and sure a 100th repeat of Reeling the years and an only barely watchable rom-com would be better.

    ______

In the end they were just greedy, they all knew one another and knew what to expect more money for no return, it was a secure cash flow, but in fairness they looked for what they wanted and fair dues to them for that, and wouldn't you be doing the same!

Just one more thing .... when did they return that car

I know rugby has become more popular but that's crazy, would the BBC cancel Graham Norton because England were playing in Twickenham ? By the way I agree with RTE logic regarding audience , but Jesus we are such a parochial little country still, except rugby is the new "church", we used to cancel LLS for Good friday now its for the "church of rugby". By the way I never knew that was the reason I mentioned Good friday as a joke.

RTÉ didn't have TLLS on Good Friday because like most semi-states and public service the day is taken as a holiday, you have to remember the Civil Service still had a day for the "King's Birthday" up until the crash, you think progressivness get in the way of a good holiday?! AFAIK the news is also cut to holiday hours on Good Friday.

And yes EastEnders is on as normal though, Ireland were playing on both nights not England, no consideration for Northern Ireland in BBC HQ!

Maybe they could ask Noel Kelly could he come up with a show in which one or more of his stable of talent interviews one or more of his stable of talent about how much money they make from promoting products and services on Instagram and other platforms in addition to their extraordinarily generous fees from the state broadcaster?

A working title could be “How to be a Brand Ambassador”, but with a “Call My Agent!” behind the scenes element showing Noel clumsily not even having the phone number of the MD of the company that contracts most of his “talent” for some comic relief!

In the show the talent could subtly show off the free cars they drive on their way to “work”, and there would be ample opportunity for product placement. Doireann could stop off in Centra for a coffee, Carl could pop into Lidl and pick up a middle aisle bargain, The Toyman could recommend a book from an agency that sent him a free copy, Joe Duffy could advise on hearing aids from Specsavers, Baz could provide some helpful tips on avoiding scams and the new features of the Bank of Ireland app, Dermot could provide some home heating tips and promote the latest Mitsubishi heaters, while Mark could rustle up a delicious stew with ingredients from M&S. The opportunities are endless!

And they could even get someone to sponsor the show.

It’s not much different from some of the shows on RTÉ right now anyway. There’s less ads in the ad breaks of Room To Improve than there is in the show itself…

They cancelled John Creedon on the radio because of the rugby as well and they cancelled him on Tuesday because of a soccer match.

But Radio 1 was airing both matches, in the past they would have replace what was on 2FM in the same way, RTÉ 1 was not showing the match, it aired on RTÉ2.

The rugby explanation makes no sense. Having close to a million people watching RTE 2 meant that there was huge potential to attract them over to the Late Late Show when the match was over at 10pm.

Does that mean Patrick Kielty has to do an extra LLS to make up for it, I thought his contract had a set number of shows per year ? Unless he was available to do the show but RTE cancelled because of the holy Rugby match.

No he's going to do a one-off where he reads the news instead!

It wouldn't have happened in Gay Byrne's day, sure half the population are women that traditionally didn't have much interest in rugby or sports on TV. And many of their husband's hated Gay Byrne because he grabbed so much of their wive's attention 😃

Probably the IRFU would have pleaded with the international rugby crowd to get the fixture moved back an hour so as not to clash with the LLS back then. I don't understand the whole rugby fixtures being so late on weekends the international football is rarely on so late ?

How is Hansard still on our tellies?

Do RTE not realise how many people find him a repulsive creep?

For those not all that interest RTÉ2 is showing the movie The Report about the 9/11 attacks. You'd think that would have been the film on ONE last week. unusual enough to see a relatively new movie on 2 as an alternative. (Can I say well done RTÉ2… well the rest of the programmes are all repeats).

What an incredibly painful start to a Patrick’s weekend. Most offensive sounding accent in Ireland!!!😖

The fcuking state of this one. Also what's with the accent. Personifies everything wrong with modern Ireland.

I don't mean to be mean to this girl, but what is her actual talent. Muted it straight away. Awful start to the St. Patrick's episode.
