    How come?

Did RTE see the poor showing on this thread and have decided to axe the show? 😁

Clashes with the below, I think RTE are afraid nobody would tune into LLS over stupid rugby!

For non sports fans I'd recommend a Simon and Garfunkel double bill on BBC 4.

This might be a cunning ploy by RTE to maintain their average viewing figures for their flagship show. If they broadcast the show next Friday it would presumably have terrible numbers and drag down their averages.....with the knock-on effect of hitting advertising rates for the whole year. Better to just bin it for the week.

RTE have pulled a similar stunt with presenters salaries.... Just give the talent extended holidays to boost their actual working hourly rates.

You'd think that the national broadcaster might have either

Decided to put the Rugby on 1 after all its is cancelling 2 of its show for the night

    or

Decide to promote some music that night

instead it unimaginatively puts on repeats from 7:30 to 11:30.

    ______

In the end they were just greedy, they all knew one another and knew what to expect more money for no return, it was a secure cash flow, but in fairness they looked for what they wanted and fair dues to them for that, and wouldn't you be doing the same!

Just one more thing .... when did they return that car

If I'm at home on a Friday it's the LLS for me.

When it's not on I'm most likely lost to the national broadcaster.

I usually pick something else from the many other schedules I can choose from.

In this case S&G look like the best option for me.

But would it be nice if the National Public Service broadcaster understood

    1. That not everyone wants to watch sport
    2. That they are loosing an audience to other channels and money is leaving the country
    3. That they have … a second channel … which might satisfy some of number 1 and 2.

1 I agree I'm one of them. The only sport I want to watch is Formula 1.

2 They'll only lose me for one night. I don't know how many are like me so that might not be much consolation.

3 Isn't that what they are trying to do with a pretty good movie to tempt the likes of me ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,742 ✭✭✭RoTelly

    1. It's not just about you and I
    2. But wouldn't be nice if they tried to keep more
    3. It's been repeated dozens of times in that time slot, perhaps investing in newer programming or having already invested in older programming they might have a repeat of something that someone would want to watch.

Seems to me you think they've made the right decision.

1 I think we both know it's not about us as individuals.

2 Of course the more viewers the better.

3 Maybe they should have put something else on.

I'm just a licence holder. I look at the schedules and pick something to watch without worrying one way or the other.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,742 ✭✭✭RoTelly

Indeed and just holding a license means little to the head honchos in RTÉ, after all they have been employed to run the national broadcaster, and you'd agree it is no busy of ours.

I thought they wanted more people to buy licences.

It kind of is your business if you want to make it your business.

For me it's just a Friday night with no LLS.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,742 ✭✭✭RoTelly

Why taxpayers are bailing them out?

Wouldn't do us much good, after all there is always the Beeb!

You'll agree an unusual situation, replaced by more repeats!

The Late Late Show isn’t on tonight, on the grounds that it would clash with the end of the Ireland Six Nations match…which is being shown on Virgin. Bit odd. Suggestion on Twitter that it’s related to Kielty’s contract renewal.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 244 ✭✭tradfan1

Seems strange alright, doesn't even really clash much as the LLS starts after 9.30pm.

The match programme on RTE 2 is from 7.00 to 11.0.

I'm not really a sports fan but I understand that the build up and post match as analysis are an important part of the coverage.

Regardless of today's rugby, TLLS always gets a few random weeks off the past 3 seasons due to PK only doing 30 shows per season. I wonder will he renew his contact ? It's up in May right?

yes they may have moved the Good Friday break to tonight

The “drop date” is not due to contract negotiations, but the are up for renewal as this is his final TLLS season under the current contract.

Interestingly I was looking at the audience figures for the match analys for sports on 2 from last week. It is way down from the LIVE event, though I suspect that 6 nations is slightly different to Allanz League and Champions League games.

I get the impression that post and pre match analysis is longer than before and really you don't have Dunphy or Hook on the panels anymore.

I don't think PK is good value at 257k. Basically you could put most RTE staff presenters on that show and it wouldn't be any better or worse.

RTÉ have also confirmed there will be no Late Late Show on Good Friday (April 3rd) this year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 19,328 ✭✭✭✭elperello

The only sport I'm really interested in is Formula 1.

The build up, pit walk, interviews etc. as well as the post race analysis are a vital part of the show for me.

I guess it's similar for most sports.

The dedicated fan can't get enough of the coverage but there are many more that just want the main event.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,742 ✭✭✭RoTelly

Indeed I would have assumed the same but the figures didn't play out last week and I wonder if RTÉ had increased the amount of time they have with analysis.

I am sure you will agree that on F1 there are some anaysis that you want to watch, what I did you think of RTÉ's coverage when they had it?

Clearly as another poster put it they are saving Kielty from any type of embarrassment.

They were heady days with Irish participants.

My preference these days is for the Channel 4 coverage.

Anyway victory in Lansdowne Road so all forgiven 😊

I agree, just do a rotation of presenters like they do with the guests..see who is in the canteen that evening…

RTE expects we were all watching the rugby football.
