Anyone haven’t problems charging on schedule at night? I have continuous problems. Last night, my Wallbox charger was plugged into car, I got the usual “check charger error” unplugged and replugged. No other errors and it still did not charge!

My ID5 has never had an issue! Not once! It’s very frustrating, this morning again no charge. Some nights it works, some nights it doesn’t.

Today is my last day with the Born I'm collecting the Elroq tomorrow.

Always plug into the wall first, if you plug the car in first and then at the wall 99 times out of 100 you'll get a red light error, the same with DC charging, get the charger turned on before plugging into the car or it won't start.

Best of luck with it. Skoda have knocked it out of the park with the Enyaq and Elroq. It's a shame they don't have an Octavia equivalent, if they had the better rear legroom of an EV paired with that massive boot they'd be a winner for a proper family car.

The styling inside and out on both the EVs is top tier for the VW Group.

Thanks Davey, getting excited now, €22 extra for the insurance with Outsurance was grand. Even if they'd put the new phev system into the Octavia it would do well for them.

Some Significant changes overall I think

Driver's display doubled. Better infotainment system I think. New steering wheel with standard push buttons. New better door cards. 4 window switches I think on driver's door. Matrix lights. Wider tyres. Reduced rating on motor- 187bhp which allows for more range.

    Major facelift

    V2L

    Android auto

    Bigger screens

    More range

    Better buttons

    Better door cards

New lfp battery and motor. Interior improved , software improved since last facelift. New base model but I would probably wait to check id.3 as that will have narrower tyres I guess. One pedal driving too.

Wltp ranges from 400 to 600km should please all.

Is it android auto like it already has or android automotive like renault/volvo?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 316 ✭✭tppytoppy

Volkswagen say it is a product of cariad.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,630 ✭✭✭✭CoBo55

I think the actual operating system of the head unit is Android, if that's what Renault/Volvo are using then they're the same.

I currently have the Born e boost with 230 odd bhp and 59kWh battery. From what I understand this higher power rating will only be available now paired with the 79kWh battery- am I right on this? I would rarely use this power - except maybe for overtaking and joining motorways etc. My first preference when the time comes to change again would be for the new upgraded Born. However I'm not sure about the drop in power to 187bhp? - how significant is that? - I suppose it will down to seeing the new 0 to 100kph times when Cupra finally reveal them?

You've got to think a 40+ drop in HP will be noticed in day to day driving, whatever the new standing time reveals.

Part of the attraction of the Born thus far has been the great baseline spec and characteristics of the car, would seem a shame to blunt that.

I had the original 204bhp Born, never even drove an eboost one so not sure the difference there.

What i have now is Tavascan with all the driving modes...range, comfort, sport, cupra

Never use range or sport, car starts in comfort, I put it into cupra mode all the time which unlocks all the 286bhp power and can definitely feel the difference from standard comfort mode. Comfort is not slow but just lacks the bite of the cupra mode.

This is what I feel the downgrade to 184bhp might feel like in the new Born. You'll be grand, but might miss the little extra kick

It seems the lower power is a smaller battery version (similar to the 150hp 45kW Born we never got in the beginning) and a 200ish power model will still be available with 79kWh.

The lower power would bother me. I found the accelerator to be a little but too sensitive on my previous Born and often drove in individual mode with eco power especially when driving with passengers. That was around 150hp I believe and still drove fine, it's still smooth and responsive. Good to see it's not the only non-VZ option.

Don't think I'd be mad on the new driver display though it looks a bit cheap and you don't really want lots of colour in your face on that screen. I also didn't have an issue going from the digital dash on my Golf to the smaller display on the Born, it still shows navigation and efficiency figures. If you don't have big dials for Speedo and tacho then you don't need the same size display. I didn't use most of the screen options on the Golf anyway. It would be ideal if they had some customisation though.

Thanks for the comments- did you mean the standard power - 204bhp is paired with the 59kWh battery as well as the 79kWh one?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 6,604 ✭✭✭DaveyDave

The article I read mentioned 204hp is with 79kWh, maybe we'll see 59kWh at a later point as that size suits most people and I don't think people want the additional cost.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 491 ✭✭Ev fan

Seems confirmed for now that the new Born+ - 59kWh will have the lower power motor with 190bhp. It has been pointed out to me that this may be to keep the range up given the wider 235mm wheels. I don't know- I like the extra zip. I am an OAP but not old enough yet to act my age.😀 It will be interesting to see what VW does in a few weeks time with the new ID3 (Neo?) - will they follow the same pattern (ease of manufacturing on the same line) or will they retain the 204bhp motor in the 59kWh model?

Anyone else have a random car not connecting to data network when using the app? When i'm in the car i can see it's connected, and online, but the app isn't connecting to the car. It was a pain this morning when car was frozen and i'd to sit in it to defrost !

Yes this morning the widget display was saying that the widget is only available for electric vehicles. 🙄

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 491 ✭✭Ev fan

Subject to confirmation I believe the new Born facelift - the 2027 Born + will have the new app 350 motor paired with a 58kWh LFP battery. If that turns out to be the case then the new 190hp motor should result in the car being plenty fast enough as the torque has increased to 350Nm. The LFP battery will be interesting too in that does this mean that you can charge the battery to full regularly and hence get more range between charges? I wonder what the experience has been thus far for EV owners with LFP batteries- Tesla owners for instance?

    Absolutely superb.

Yes, contacted Cupra and they said they had a server issue. They said it was back working at the time I contacted them but it still took 24hrs to have the message in app go away and be able to communicate directly to my Tavascan, Born was unaffected.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 491 ✭✭Ev fan

From what I can now gather LFP battery to be used on the base model Born. On the model up it appears that Born + 350 motor paired with the existing 59kWh NMC battery which would be consistent with what VW appears to be planning for the id3 neo Pro version. Hopefully will get updated cupra born brochure with all the details soon - given the significant changes overall - price will be of key interest

Both 50kwh and 58 kWh lfp references have been seen referenced in presentations during launch but 50 kWh will come later, if at all. Better cancel of seeing it in id.3

Has anyone who ordered a Born during the promotion for a free charger/ €500 pre paid card and chose the pre paid card gotten their card ?

I’m yet to receive it and have been emailing Cupra every month requesting updates. They just keep saying it’s an issue with the card provider.

If you chose this option and haven’t received your card please contact them and request an update so that more of us are putting pressure on them.

I got one last year on a different offer from Cupra. Had to apply after getting the car and the voucher number was emailed to me and added through their app. Never got a physical card through the offer.
