I got the same update today after asking last week. Raging.

Said they hope that there is 2 ships sailing this week. Will let me know once it's loaded.

If you look on the Dublin port website, you can see expected arrivals but there's no Vehicle Carriers due in until on the current schedule. That goes to 9th March. It'll be at least another 2 weeks before they land I reckon, nevermind delivered to customers.

Check out MV FutureWay (currently in Emden) and MV WayForward. They're VAG chartered vehicle carriers. Both were in Dublin in 2nd half of Feb.

There is an Emden issue for sure, it’s not dealer waffle. The weather meant that nearly 50% of the ships due there didn’t happen on time.

I may as well fill the tank on the Octavia so.

Ship due in to Dublin from Emden on Sunday evening.

There is a ship due to leave Emden tomorrow. I am hoping my Enyaq will be on it but it has been there since the start of February and missed the last two for one reason or another. Seems to be no real organisation in which cars get on which boats and cars which are there less time than others get ahead. I wonder is there a priority based on ranking in the VAG group 😉

The salesman I'm dealing with said the same - there are cars that were shown as made weeks before being leapfrogged by cars more recently made, which make it onto the ship.

There seems to be no rhyme or reason to it.

I guess people who have already ordered less likely to change. People rocking up to a showroom for a test drive are less likely to buy if they're told 6 months.

Up to a point. Yeah, you've probably paid a booking deposit, but you'll get that back if there's no sign of what you've ordered being delivered.

I see that ship is en route btw. I noticed that dealers can access much more detailed status info and should know if yours is on board.

Ye, I was told I'd be told once it was loaded so I guess its not on it.

There's no other sailing scheduled into Dublin for another few days after that one.

Just got an update today, my car did not make the ship on the 6th 😕

There really seems to be no order to it. The sales guy I am working with has 22 cars waiting to be shipped, and none got on. Another sales guy has 1 car, and it got on the ship on Friday.

No information yet on when the next ship will be leaving the port, so all we can do is wait. Very frustrating.

I've not heard anything so guess it's still sitting there. There's nothing else coming from Emden in the next few days so I expect the wait to continue.

Someone I know ordered an Enyaq a few weeks back, after taking a test drive and they were told they would have it on 1st week of April.

I am a returning PCP, trading-up ,so I reckon they're prioritising walk-in customers. People like me are more inclined to wait and we have a little less flexibility but today's walk-ins won't order a car if they are told it'll be Aug/September before they get it.

The MV Future Way (currently in Dublin Port) has a capacity of over 6,000 cars. There's hardly that number in the backlog waiting to be shipped. Mine will be sitting in Emden two full months from next Sunday. Ridiculous.

Tbh I dont even know if they have any control over it. I think they will be told a date, but that's production, not shipping.
I'm on HP at the moment and still a few months until the end of my plan, so in one way it's good as I'm lowering my settlement cost, which will lead to lower monthly payments in my new finance agreement.

They also have to honour the trade offer they made. Mine was made in November and is currently higher than I've seen them advertised for sale, so they will want to get it sorted, or they will be losing more money.

Either way, I want to get the car as soon as I can, but I'm in a good position with my current car, so I can hold out.

Thats a crazy wait time for it to be sitting at a port waiting shipping.

From what I have seen, this issue has been there for years which I cant believe they havent sorted something by now.
The last time I didnt notice any issues with shipping as the delay getting the car was so long anyway. By the time I followed up it was already in the country.

We ordered a new elroq 50 on Oct 20th... Arrived in Ireland 10/1 and we picked it up of the dealer on the 14/1. Insane difference in cars that were ordered at the same time

The dealer did originally say we could expect it late Feb / early march tho , we were very surprised when we had it early January

I tracked the sister ship the last time MV Way Forward 😂 and it went to Portugal and Spain after Dublin. So it's not just Dublin/Emden. I would think it also picks up stock from Seat/Cupra for distribution elsewhere.

Got a call from Cupra Wexford today asking was I still happy with my Born😊, he was a bit crestfallen when I told him it was gone, fcuk him, it was his loss.

Tell him you're thinking of changing again and ask him how quick could you get it 😂😂😂

You're right. It's headed to Santander next. Probably picking up Seat/Cupras more than dropping off VW/Skoda but impossible to know for sure.

Then guy I'm dealing with mentioned 2 boats leaving this week. I wonder is there any VAGs on the other vehicle carrier, travelling from Zeebrugge (which is Belgium)?.That's the Malacca Highway.

The MH is just scheduled to just go over and back to Dublin so that could easily have 6000 cars for Irish market on it.

David McCullough has an item on his program this morning about delays to the delivery of new cars.

WWas Just on and didn't catch most of it. A listener awaiting a new skoda was interviewed. Was it someone posting here i wonder? 😎

I thought the same! Or else researchers stalking these threads.

Not much to it - she ordered a car (model not specified) in October, was promised delivery on 9th March, it hasn't arrived, she's been given all sorts of excuses but mainly that the port (presumably Emden) froze over and all the cars there were put into storage, and now there's a huge backlog.

No possible future date for delivery, so she's just stuck waiting. And waiting.

The war in the middle east isn't going to help matters.

We'll all be proud owners of 262 or 271 cars at this rate 😕

Meantime, the Malacca Highway went into Dublin Port this morning - anyone get any news from that???

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 8,825 ✭✭✭plodder

I heard that part. "put into storage" makes it sound like it's being wrapped in cotton wool indoors somewhere. But, if you look at google maps, Emden is basically an enormous outdoor carpark with a few jetties for shipping. I do wonder what effect this waiting around for months has on EV batteries particularly ..

    Not me anyway.

There's been a few ships coming from Zeebrugge, they seem more frequently.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,518 ✭✭✭mr_edge_to_you

On the plus side, the numbers in stock on the website seem to be gradually creeping up so there's obviously stock coming in.

Still really looking forward to it though. Looks like a great car and all the reviews are very positive.

I guess it's as much a frustration for the dealers too. In fairness to the dealer, there was no fobbing off. Been dealing with them a long time and they've always been good and reliable.

I remember when new cars used to be offloaded and stored at Rosslare Harbour dock, where in on shore storms cars would be covered in salt spray. There was no problem wandering between cars, actually there was a public bar on the end of main jetty.

Was a handy way of checking specs in new cars, before the internet days. I remember asking a docker why all the front wheels of one make were turned one direction, he said was to stop corrosion on the steering ram. The gear knobs were removed, apparently the GT (Or whatever) ones used to go missing..🙂

I remember hearing about companies who would import standard spec models (kind of like master franchise companies) who would add the likes of the alloys and stereo head units here in Dublin depending on the trim ordered. I guess in those days there wasn't a whole of difference on the specs. It was primarily, Aircon, alloys and leather seats. Simpler times.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,884 ✭✭✭eagerv

I am going back to the 80s when I don't think Aircon was yet available on mainstream cars. The choice was vinyl seats or if you were lucky cloth covered.😁

Sorry for thread drift, but always liked Skoda cars, I think the Elroq is a cracker..
