Well oil price rises ain't going to get him a rate cut, especially on top of the slight inflation rise last week.

So, to be clear ( humour doesn’t translate well on the web) you really believe that Trump did this for the benefit of the Iranian people ?

The history of the last 47 years of unilateral American military intervention abroad ( even well intentioned). suggests a positive outcome ?

Normally smartwatches are prohibited in secure areas. (Even wireless mice are prohibited). I normally wear a Samsung Galaxy, but had to get a basic Casio for operations in division HQs (Not only US, UK and FR HQs had similar rules). However, I am also not a Presidential-access-level individual, and I know that there are accommodations for higher level personnel with vetted/approved wireless equipment I would not be permitted to use.

Arguably an error by Iran, though it may have just been un-coordinated striking out at random. Certainly a sensible campaign would be concentrating assets, not firing out a few at here and a few at there. The Gulf states were not advocating for this, they were telling the US not to do it, but instead of letting the wedge continue to build between the US and the Gulf, they instead manage to annoy the Gulf states and push them into at least no longer objecting, or maybe even actively getting involved.

The UAE commenting how well their AD has been doing Vs Iranian ballistic missiles and drones. They'll no doubt be lining up to buy billions more from the yanks.

The Iranians are idiots but we already knew that.

Wouldn't increased postal voting reduce that risk? But Trump doesn't want that either. I wonder why ......

He couldn't possibly be trying to manipulate voting outcomes by changing constituency boundaries, removing polling stations in democratic voting areas, selectively disappearing names off electoral rolls, making it more difficult for certain sectors to vote,.... Could he?

So, with Mar-a-Lago being the center for the Iran operation, and taking into account Trump used Mar-a-Lago for the Venezuela raid and for talks with Zelensky, I suppose there's no outrage that all the military personnel, secret service, staff all are paying Trump to stay there?

What's Trumps likely attention span on this in reality?

A week tops, maybe a fortnight at a stretch?

    An Iran breakup/civil war

They are behind the killing and terror in Ukraine fcuk them

Not the worst thing trump has ever done and I don't think anyone else was going to stop it so it has my backing

It makes Mar-a-Lago a very tempting target and it's far less defended than the White House…

I was shocked to see how vulnerable AF1 looked yesterday as it took off from West Palm beach. The public highways were a mere couple hundred metres from the plane. It looked very exposed.

I'm surprised the secret service don't insist on a more secure airport.

What has surprised me is the radio silence that the Admin has kept on its planned assault on Iran. The record of the Trump Admin on radio silence is poor, with Sec Hegseth being slammed for broadcasting live stuff best not spoken about. It might be conjecture on my part, what with the regular visits to the region for the "purpose" of holding peace talks on the Ukraine war, but I would have thought [looking back now] that those Ukraine peace talk visits would have been the opportune moments to have talks with regional partners, even if it was some form of message conveying from Trump to the partners there.

This morning Trump told the US, and the world, that Iran actually had nuclear weapons in its possession and that was why he initiated the armed war against Iran. Who is lying here?

Is it a possibility that the U.S's major partner, Israel, decided it was time that the tail wagged the dog and told Trump, via his junior staff members on the Ukraine peace talk visits, that it was "aware" of certain items in the Iranian armoury, that it was going to launch a pre-emptive attack on Iran to prevent another man—engineered holocaust of its people.

One thing is for sure, the region is going from hot to boiling as a result of the joint attack on Iran. I'm not sure if Trump's TACO personality will be relevant in this case, circumstances look like overtaking him, leaving him committed to this one task without choice. Moving the U.S embassy to Jerusalem sent a signal he may not have intended, given his TACO nature.

Complete brainrot. You lot were screaming blue murder about about every single military intervention in the Middle East or North Africa and suddenly you are a herd of seals slapping their fins together for The Glorious Leader Bringing Peace And Democracy To Iran.
I completely discount the possibility of stupidity in case of this comment and that only leaves one other option.

I wonder if we'll suddenly see a flush of returnees to our shores from Irish working the middleeast.

I'd be worried because Trump is such a buffoon and has instigated all this as a distraction for domestic politics that it could very well spiral into something much broader, like an Arab Spring Part II where US backed regimes get wobbly.

If they are Irish nurses and doctors that WE paid to educate and rear, and then they went working in Dubai because they did not want to give anything back here, they can F. right off as far as I am concerned. Their jobs were taken by immigrants which we had to get and house.

I wonder the same thing. I think a lot will depend on how long it goes on for and whether the neighbouring countries will continue to be targeted.

Not that much more exposed than it would be when taking off from Andrews AFB near Washington, its home base. They’ve got public roads running right along the northern perimeter of the base, close to the runway thresholds. Fact is that using a 747 as the presidential aircraft limits the number of airports that can be used, and there simply aren’t any nearby airports that could serve as an alternative. The nearest “secure” facilities would be Cape Canaveral, two hundred kilometres up the coast, or MacDill Air Force Base in the Tampa Bay Area, literally on the other side of Florida.

Personally, I think it’s a travesty that Mar-a-Lago is even used at all for official business of any kind. It’s not built for it, not secure in any way, shape or form. Then again, given the genetic oil sump currently in office, I guessed I shouldn’t be surprised…

Good luck trying to figure me out. I haven't managed that myself yet!

Iranians are not going to welcome an Israeli installed puppet, regardless of the unpopularity of the clerics. They know it will turn into Saddam Hussein's Iraq.

So even if the current clash ceases the main expansionist Israel will attack again in the future, even if the Iran successors are far more moderate.

Working in that region never appealed to me. I had a friend who became essentially a prisoner there after marrying a Saudi, in fairness it was her husbands friends who helped her escape. The facade of modernity in the Arab states is all about oil, and they'll go to war with eachother over it.

Qatari airspace was suddenly shut down over a local spat a few years ago. There's nothing civilised about petrostates.

I'd always have my passport on me and an airport bag by the front door.

Möge er dabei in seinem eigenen Dünnpfiff ersaufen.

Indeed, with a nod to his German heritage I will henceforth call him Dünnpfeiffer J. Trump.

    We stand with you, Detritus!

or maybe they couldnt find suitable and affordable accommodation here, and had no real alternative but to leave!

This is what happens when a buffoon starts a war without a strategy.

An absolute mess. If the US has always been the security blanket for the middle east regimes then when the US wages war as a distraction from domestic politics then the oppressed see how weak these regimes really are.

Won't be surprised if we end up with a few more Iranian style revolutions in the region.

But but we always were told the Iranians are lovely people educated and more western than arabs

Their evil leaders all are gone so where is them protesters now or was it all propaganda about the mass killings.

I commend trump on this one nobody could have an after plan, Iranians have 2 step up, time for a 90m people contribute to international norms and behavior even when the US has strayed off a bit.
