    Hi all.

    A bit to the party.

Worked in London for 18 months at the turn of the '80s/ '90s.

Haven't got my NI number to hand.

Have some records of places I worked at though,

Am I at nothing trying to apply for this?

    Many thanks for any replies.

    Not at nothing , no.

Have you 10 years working there?

You can contact them with your details of employment and adresses to get your NI number and ask them to let you know the state of your contributions then .

You have missed the big payback of contributions for 2006 to 2016 which was available up to last year , April . But you can still back pay up to six years contributions and some pension is better than nothing. Also depending on your age you may makeup enough for missing contributions

For some of us that ship has sailed ;(

Look back the thread, lots of info, addresses and phone numbers posted.

    Hi all!

I have a nice positive outcome for my wife's pension. And I thought I should share it on here. We applied for both our applications 2.5 years ago and only today did my wife receive her letter to say they accept her application to pay class 2.

It took a complaint that we sent 10 days ago to get her application finalised as it had been stuck in limbo since Oct 2024.

We both lived until he UK for less than 3 years. My job gave me three years worth of contributions but my wife's job was part time so only managed 2 years.

So my wife only had two years contributions but we were allowed to use her work in another EU country to allow her to qualify to pay voluntary contributions.

We sent them loads of letter and payslips from her Irish employers as they wouldn't accept a prsi contribution statement as proof of work.

This outcome will get her over the 10 years needed to qualify for the minimum which is better than nothing. As she is only 38 she can decide to continue to pay and depending on the rules for next year we will have a long and hard think about it.

    SUCCESS!!!

    DON'T GIVE UP

Hi RCSATELLITES,how/where did you send your complaint.I am waiting 13 months for an answer. Its been "escalated" at least 4 times

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 864 ✭✭✭RCSATELLITES

This is the only complaint that worked for us, we rang numerous of times and it was "escalated" but nothing. With this complaint if it is not responded to it then goes to the UK pensions ombudsman.

No harm in giving it a go anyway.

Sorry for all the pics but trying to make it as easy as possible.

I filled out my CF83 online last year before the deadline and paid lots of years. All good and credited to my account.

I didn't pay for 2013-2014 and 2020-2021 as they had a good few class 3 weeks in them, but with the news of all future payment from this April being class 3 only. It made sense to pay the 2020-2021 while I still can before 2027.

So, back in January of this year I filled out a CF83 again and got the letter today (quite fast, it was actually dated a month after I filled out the CF83).

As expected the table of shortfall rates included the UK tax year just gone and also 2020-2021, BUT it also included the earlier year of 2013-2014 (way more than the current limit of six years to pay short falls).

If I can pay 2013-2014, it makes sense to. However, because I assumed I was only going to be able to pay last year and 2020-2021 when I filled out the most recent CF83. I only put in my last two jobs, the first of which started in 2014. Therefore my class 3s for 2013-2014 are a lot higher than they actually should be. Costing around £300 more than they should if I filled out my job that finished early 2014.

I'm wondering should I just fill out another CF83 with more jobs and see if I get a new shortfall letter with the correct class 2 amounts for 2013-2014? There is a risk that the new letter doesn't mention the 2013.

I could ring them but I doubt they'd be able to change the figures over the phone.

Hi folks – I’m trying to work out how to submit my form cf83 on the HMR portal. Apologies if it’s been dicussed before, but I can’t find anything now.

Thanks. In that scammy 'pdfFiller' for which I had to sign up for a free trial just to make a copy. Have logged in to my account at HMRC, looking for how to submit it there(?)

Long time since I did it but its just a form you fill in the details and then submit, then you get a notification of submission if I'm remembering it right - don't need to do anything special

It's an online application on the hmrc website that I can see.

You can only go back 6 years now for new applications - you have missed the deadline to go back further

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,257 ✭✭✭nomdeboardie

Thanks, but I shoud have said I made contact before last March's deadline, and had recent contact with DWP, who said to state that in the application…though I don't know if there will be anywhere to do that!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 18,780 ✭✭✭✭fritzelly

Did you not have to have the application to pay back in already before the deadline (i.e. details of your work etc since leaving), maybe someone else can confirm but doing the initial application now is too late

edit. Checking ChatGPT intention with contact was enough so ignore the message and just add all your work details then

I sent my application by post so I am not sure if the online application gives you the opportunity to write "more info". Maybe someone can clarify. But if it was me I would send the application by post, at least then you can state your situation clearly and include specific cover letter. You can states the years you think you should be able to pay class 2 and so on. Here is the form you can print out and fill it in.

I was in the situation of asking for a callback before the deadline, which apparenly locks in eligibiity to apply

Thanks. I was sent that also by email by someone who was forwarded my recent desperate message when I couldn't get through by phone after being texted to call DWP when I presumably missed their initial callback. I might end up doig that too, though the form itself will be a pain, as it can't be edited by typing; but as you say, it would allow the incluson of a cover letter /extra notes. My situation is a mess as I don't know dates farther back. I don't know why hey can't just check the NI contributions from the non-UK countries directly.

Thanks very much for your guide RCSatellites.I will go the online route and see what happens.I've been waiting long enough.A refund will be useful.

Print out a few forms . I always make mistakes.

OH in same position and was unable to find NI number . Got a call back but couldn't apply until his number came through.

Should be class 2s but we will see what they come back with. He is going to print that form and write a cover letter .

Good luck and hopefully both get sorted .

No problem beachhead 😊. Hopefully it will get someone moving. We received another letter in the post today, so unless it was a big coincidence. But two letters have come in the post with good news after the complaint went in.

    Good news to hear

    Hi,

I think I may be in the same boat as your wife. I worked in the UK for 2 full years, and after applying to pay voluntary contributions I eventually received a letter back, which states; edit, see photo next post.

I am a bit confused as they say I don’t meet the conditions, but then states that if I lived or paid social security in an EU country it can help me meet the above conditions.

I assume this means that living, working and paying contributions in an EU county(Ireland) to the government of that country can help you meet the criteria, and if I respond with proof of this I would then qualify.

Also, if I do qualify I no doubt it will be for class 3, and am wondering if at 56 it is worth paying 6 years back that I can buy at £900ish, approximately €6500, plus an additional £900 ish a year going forward for 10 years, approximately €17000 at todays exchange rate, would be worth it. I know it depends on how long you live, I suppose I’d need about 3 years UK pension to make it worth it.

Any help or input much from anyone appreciated, thanks
