    @smacl I unsure at this stage. It has shown up in Firefox (desktop) and Vivaldi (android, even with built-in ad blocker).

    But there must be a third party cookie or cache in the browser preventing it for showing in Chromium browsers.

    I have deleted cookies for boards.ie.

    Event forgot about the inbuilt ad blocker on comet (desktop).

    We were all getting these newly imposed and very onerous cookie preference pages over Christmas and we were on to Mike about it .

    It was changed so that when logged off and logging back in you could easily reject all or object all which is the way it should be . In EU anyway .

    TLDR .Not for ads , for cookies .

    @smacl Found the reason why the icon was not showing in Chromium browsers for me. My Windscribe extension had these settings preventing it from displaying. Which is active even when the VPN is not in use.

    They are cookie preferences for the ad servers. So it has relevant to the ads?

    Not necessarily ads . A number are advertising but others are information sharing and scraping .

    Chromium-based browsers can be a bit flaky sometimes because of the cache. You might want to try more than just clearing the site cookies - try a full hard refresh or just open it in an incognito window to see if that fixes it.

    I made a subscription. Will the subscription be automatically debited from the card in the next month?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 800 ✭✭✭waterfaerie

    Yes it will if you chose a monthly subscription. You should get an email a few days before the money goes out.

    @CasNiRas Effectively a ghost town and you need to be a 'Paid Member' anyway to access it.

    Donation are possible but that won't give you membership. Can't find the link for it search possibly this thread for a link.

    Well July (one year on) isn't far away, so let's review...

    - despite the advertised crisis situation, and despite the goals not being hit, the site has somehow continued on regardless

    - nothing else has changed though. Still limited day to day engagement from the owner and one (part time?) employee

    - no preview of the stripped back Vanilla v2 Boards, let alone a full release

    - UI continues to be a mess with users having to develop their own fixes (which are much appreciated but shouldn't be necessary)

    - the site remains a ghost town in many areas. No users, let alone mods across many forums

    - no meaningful progress on most things that were requested or promised not just last year but when the move to Vanilla was first implemented

    I won't be paying my 50 quid this year and I won't be taken in again by more empty promises and commitments. It's not enough to simply say that things are happening in the background if, a YEAR on, no tangible evidence of those "happenings" can be seen from the user perspective.

    If the site dies in October/November this time so be it. I have zero faith in the current management to be able to turn it around and limping on as it has this year is doing nothing except dragging it out.

    Honestly it's a bit shocking just how little of what was discussed, has materialised.

    I'm not saying this was a desperate cash grab, but I can absolutely understand why some people believed that in the beginning, because none of the actions to date have shown anything else. How often can the "Mike and Odhran are very busy in the background" excuse be used when it's a year on, a load of money taken and absolutely nothing has changed?

    100% agree. I subscribed for just six months and was considering renewing, but then my second payment failed and I just thought, feck that. After how things were handled on the site, I wasn't even bothered setting it back up again.

    At the start, it was great seeing genuine posters come together to support the site and come up with ideas to generate traffic and funding. But the owners seemed to do very little beyond saying they were “working on things in the background".

    Then the whole sh!tshow of bickering between posters started. It became like an episode of Big Brother, where people were intentionally being pitted against each other. Except this wasn’t entertainment, they were supposedly trying to rebuild the 'community' while also asking people for money to keep the site alive.

    You can already see the effect across the site now. People aren’t engaging the way they used to and, honestly, it feels like it’s dying out. At this stage, it’s only a matter of time.

    I won’t lose any sleep over the €28 I contributed, but after everything that’s happened, I definitely won’t be putting any more money into the site.

    ....…

    I've been subbing for 3 months ay a time but I can't see myself continuing give how little engagement there is from Odhran and Mike and how little has changed since they introduced the sub.

    @_Kaiser_

    UI continues to be a mess with users having to develop their own fixes (which are much appreciated but shouldn't be necessary)

    Appreciate the shoutout if your referring to me with the above comment.

    One example: -

    Screenshot 2026-05-01 190610.png

    to: -

    image.png

    That was a simple css edit to give the table under it a top margin and a bit of styling on the page controls.

    .PageControls.Top,
    .PageControls.Bottom {
    position: static !important;
    background: var(--t-header-bottom) !important;
    border-color: var(--t-header-border) !important;
    z-index: 2;
    } .DataTableWrap {
    margin-top: 70px;
    z-index: 1;
    }

    Another simple fix was this icon circled in red with the wrong class so it doesn't display.

    I mentioned before, If no site improvements by June, I will be requesting my yearly sub not be renewed in July!

    Partially the reason, I made my extension more widely available than just paid members.

    Same here. I paid for the initial six months and being cautious, I decided to wait and see what developments would materialise.

    A few months ago I cancelled further payments because I could see no improvement at all with how the site functioned.

    I feel now the site's days are numbered, especially with the noticeable drop-off in postings and many moderators seem to have gone to earth.

    How do you find out when your annual subscription was last paid and renewal date ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 5,426 ✭✭✭xhomelezz

    You surely got emails from boards to check out? As in I'm getting reminders and receipts, so it's not that hard to find out

    Hit the switch to keep the lights on.

    Check your email you subbed from for : - 'Your receipt from Boards Software Ltd' if you didn't delete it.
