Delighted for them. As someone stated on here before. I don't see the likes of Catherine Fogarty objecting against those candy/vape stores near schools. If you're over the age 18 and choose to vape then that's grand, but clearly these shops are targeted at teenagers.

Also planning application submitted for a veterinary clinic old ESB shop. Ideal location right across the road from the carpark.

they are seeking planning for the old fitzgibbon (i think) engineering place on mitchel st to build some houses.

This is going to hurt, but the town needs to hear it

Compared to the number of houses planned for Nenagh and other towns, it's just a drop in the ocean. Social housing projects e.g in Loughtagalla doesn't count. The vast majority of houses built in recent years are social housing. Thurles always prioritised scumbags for social housing.

You can't run your entire towns economy on social housing, junkies, social Welfare, lone parents, migrants, Roma and barely a handful of affordable houses.

It's gone beyond ridiculous that as many people probably have guessed, I was born in the 1980s, I recently had someone born in 2000 quoting the "woe is me" about the sugar factory that went in 1989 when I was a child.

I had the misfortune of travelling to Thurles just before Christmas (looking for vermiculite)

On that day I travelled from Nenagh which was booming, later heading to Roscrea from Thurles which had just suffered the recent loss of Bernie's had a food fair going on, Portlaoise (where i eventually found the vermiculite) was crazy busy.

Thurles was dead. The same docile people with elevated BMI in tracksuit pants. It reminded me of a book I read where a journalist visited the notorious Broadmoor Insane Asylum and all the patients are dressed and acted this way.

anybody go down to the new market this morning. whats it like

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,007 ✭✭✭Grab All Association

I'm currently on the 08:00 Dublin Heuston to Cork train and we have just arrived in Thurles, I actually did the whole journey down from Dublin. the number of unemployed Roma getting on the train with travel passes is unreal. There's other foreigners that got on who are working, but they are commuting to places like Cork and Limerick for work. So the town is a dump site for cheap workers to get cheap rent and the unemployable.

The town is losing another 4 shops in the coming weeks. Nenagh and other towns are booming. They are not turning their empty retail units into hidden IPAS centres e.g West Gate and Friar Street.

I was in Cahir last week and even that town is having new businesses that don't sell Vapes and phones opening in the town centre.

People used to call Tipperary Town a s***hole, I think Thurles took that title a very long time ago

You’re bitching about Thurles is borderline obsessive. Are you trapped there or something?!? Honestly. If I was as miserable in a place as you clearly are, I’d get organised and get gone.
You have one almost identical post after another on this fairly quiet thread. Right. We get it Thurles is a sh**hole. Now change the record.

and it’s all the “foreigners” fault as well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 305 ✭✭AugustRain

first they blamed the Brit’s, then they blamed the Catholic Church, now it’s the “furriners”.
Honestly, I don’t mind kids moaning. There’s not much for them here, and mostly they leave, eventually. My own daughter, and most of her friends are gone.

But here you have a fully grown adult whining and bitching non stop as he continues to return over and over again, year in and year out, the same sad song over and over. If you don’t like it, then why are you here?

Firstly some of the foreigners seem to be the only ones in Thurles actually pulling up their sleeves to work and not taking over €12k per year minimum from the public purse. I was talking about the people of Thurles in the car earlier to my girlfriend and she pointed out that the people of Thurles are very much like the Roma

Whats sad is generations of Thurles people who will never contribute one single cent to the state. Unemployed, drinking, taking drugs. A town FULL of wasters. Who will forever be on means tested payments and non-contributory pensions later in life that I'll be paying towards.

I left Thurles coming up to 4 years now. Unfortunately I still have to come back to the dump every 3 or 4 weeks for business, banking etc. Everytime I come the place has gotten worse. More junkies and wasters on the streets than ever before. Their only nurishment is a chicken fillet roll every Wednesday and the rest of their disability allowance or Jobseekers is spent on heroin or cannabis.

The exact week I left, there was that embarrassing bare-knuckle boxing spectacle in the Square that made national headlines. I actually was walking out Hickeys Chemist when this spectacle happened

Seeing people coming out from the phone shops, the takeaways, the hairdressers, the tattoo shops, etc on Liberty Square. Cheering it on and videoing it. I realised then it was the vast majority of the people of Thurles who idolise criminals, drug taking/drug dealing scumbags.

Couple of more funny stories I heard from those fortunate enough to get out of the dump.

    In Monakeeba, Beechwood Lawns etc,

Before the central bank forced lenders to collect PPS numbers, a lot of the women there were scamming the Family Album, Littlewoods catalogues and Provident Personal Credit for years. Signing up in multiple names, including elderly neighbours, their children's names and even dead relatives names. Yeah we know who you are. Littlewoods and Oxendales blacklisted almost all of Thurles for years after Interim Justicia hired a PI to go into the estate to investigate.

Another scam was a minor collision near the CBS Thurles. The men got out and almost had a brawl with each other. Car A was a local man and occupants were his family..car B was a Roscrea or Birr man just on his way home. The driver and family of car A got back into the vehicle and the fire brigade had to cut them out of the car.

I was skeptical of those jobs in Archerstown where they claimed nobody in Thurles applied for them. Now we know that company was telling the truth.
