Halfords will not replace a 12 volt battery on an EV. If you go to a motor factors and give them an extra 20 quid they may fit it for you there and then.

Little update on our 30KW Leaf with bad battery. Ended up buying a 40KW battery that Ghost flagged to me, so thanks for that -

2023 nissan leaf battery 40kw SOLD for sale in Co. Longford for €3,500 on DoneDeal

The Leaf somehow made it the 90KM to Range Therapy in Kildare (drove at 70kmph) and they are swapping the batteries today for us, so all going well, will be ready for pick up this evening. I'll post details once it's all done. He took a look at the 30KW battery when we arrived, via Leafspy, and said it was toast - the graph was all red with 122mv. Hx had dropped since I tested it a week ago. He said it's for recycling.

Fingers crossed for no more issues and ~200KM range which is all we need it to do.

I think you did the right thing as opposed to throwing otherwise a good car in the bin, as long as you are determined to keep the car now in the long term.

Keep us updated, when mine goes south hopefully not for a few years yet I was thinking I might DIY it purely for the challenge/interest and if I have the space to do it! How much do they charge to swap the battery?

Did they swap the battery that you had sourced? Didnt know they did that? Can I ask what the cost was - give a range if you don't want to dox the exact cost.

Costs €18. I only asked about it in my local Halfords this week for someone else. Nissan Leaf too.

Glad I was able to help out in some way. I still think upgrading to a newer car would have made more financial sense, but hopefully you have a car that will keep you going for years. What is the install cost? It could be useful for others to know.

This is supposed to be shared with your insurance company. Best thing to do, is have the upgraded battery certified and then get the logbook updated to reflect it. That way, the registration will show it's a 40kWh car and insurance going forward will be easier.

    Good avice.

What bill from Range Therapy to put in the new pack?

Funnily enough, the Halfords website lets me choose a 2022 Leaf but then says there are no results and I need to go into the shop to find out which battery is the correct one.

In my experience, they’re not great in the shop either. Find what you need and they can fit it. I’d personally not pay them for any fitting services, except once when I had a pig of of a time with a stuck wiper blade. That was worth every cent 😅

The 40KW that I bought is faulty. All looked great on LeafSpy etc but when it was put into the car, it showed a catastrophic P0AA6 isolation error. Toast. Refund en route from seller. Range Therapy happens to now have a nice 40KW that they will put in……

He had no issue putting in a battery that I sourced…although it now turned out to be faulty so I am buying one directly from him

I'll update with the costs, range on the 40KW etc once we have the car back and it's all done - as it defo could be useful to others

    Cool.

So a little change from 5K anyway, and reasonable peace of mind continuing to drive a car you like.

Very interesting. As the SOH (and real world range) continues to drop on my '11 leaf I'm considering doing something like this. I've already paid money to fix things on the car so it will never make financial sense anyway so that's easier in a way.

I'd probably want the 62kwh if I was bothering to change.

Going with the Vivne's CATL upgrade is a viable option:

Last time I had to do it I took it to a local battery supplier called batteryworld in Limerick. I think it was €80 including installation and recycling of the old one

been following that but I'd prefer an actual nissan battery and an EU or UK based seller so I have comeback.

Was watching the auction at Merlin today and a 2011 Leaf was going through with only 4 bars showing and looked like it was more or less fully charged and showing a range of 29km. The body was also rough with plenty of dents and scratches. I was curious to see how much it would make and I was thinking about €400. It went for €1400 + fees of €240. Couldn't believe it made that kind of money. Am I missing something here or has someone just overpaid for a car with no real practical use?

overpaying. Someone didnt understand what they bought.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 274 ✭✭evftw

That was a totally mad price.

LOL price, someone maybe thinking of years back and perhaps use the battery pack at the house for storage

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 19,761 ✭✭✭✭ELM327

With 4 bars left there's likely only 4-6kwh available, you'd buy a standard 48v home battery box cheaper!

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 18,873 Mod ✭✭✭✭slave1

I totally get that and agree, hence the comment of someone thinking of stuff done years back like installing car battery as household storage, we now know that is no longer anywhere worth while.

Just grasping at straws why someone would pay that much for it

    #MEGA MAKE EUROPE GREAT AGAIN

it’s reassuring to see the dawn of a new industry in terms of replacing the batteries and giving cars a new lease of life

Looking for internal light advice. Picked up a 2022 Leaf a couple of years ago and the guy had upgraded to blue LEDs. He only used two parts of the kit to do the dome light and the map lights. We want to revert and he left the bulbs inside the glovebox. The map lights were a straight swap and the LED was in the same connector that the halogen plugs back into. But the dome light seems different. This is a picture with and without the LED installed. The other spare bulb I have in the car is a normal halogen one with a plug that doesn't fit into the above setup. But when I looked up a Youtube video of someone installing it looked like the bulb they removed was in fact the exact same shape as this LED one. Can someone verify? I'm sick of looking through Youtube videos for an answer! Thanks!

I've a 30kWh Leaf with 8 bars left. No issues with weak cells thankfully. But range isn't great. Do people recommend the BMS update so you can get more range out of it?

And how have people got that done? Car is 10years old so can't get under warranty.

Dala fella on YouTube seemed to offer the update somehow.

You could just book in for a service with a Nissan dealer and have it included, no harm in asking, I got mine done quite a while ago as part of the Nissan "service" cost €77
