I'm expecting a lot of cancellations around Dublin anyway, a few junior games have already bit the dust.

Young Munster 82 - 21 UCD is an incredible score. That’s a strong team put out by Munsters. A decent few players released by Munster and nobody bar O’Tighearnaigh released for UCD from Leinster (from what I can see from the team sheet).

2 late tries with pretty much last 2 plays of the game secure Belvo try and losing BPs. 10 points ahead with a big point difference and Nenagh at home to come probably means we should be safe with UCD in the playoff. Can’t see UCD getting more than 2 wins with Tarf, Marys and Nure 3 of 5 of their remaining games.

Ym had 4 players who have played European rugby, ffs.

    Munster A more like.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,658 ✭✭✭FtD v2

UCD are supplying 80% of the Irish tight five for the U20s which definitely won’t have helped them.

Huge win for Highfield against Instonians. Wathcing on their youtube, something very strange happened at the end of the game. Instonians kicked out thinking the game was over but the ref gave highfield a pen and yellowed the Instonians 9. Highfield go on to score with the last play of the game to win.

Mary’s vs Terenure was a super contest. Mary’s winning without Dean (arguably the best player in the league at 10) is massive for them.
Young Munster putting UCD to the sword. Young Munster look a contender for top 4 now. If that squad is playing week in week out they will be title contenders when they get to play offs.

Cork Con beat Clontarf, seems Clontarf are struggling without their Leinster players.

Lansdowne back to winning ways - much needed.

Nenagh unfortunately on another end of a hiding.

of course ym would be contenders, look at the amount of pros playing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 202 ✭✭jimbob955

    YM are esstnailly Munster "A"

What happens for example for the SA tour and Munster bring a big squad, maybe with no internatonals?

    How would YM fare then?

If imagine we will find out

Id imagine they will be lucky to field a team.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,658 ✭✭✭FtD v2

I think this is way overblown.

They had a higher than usual complement of fringe Munster players in the squad v UCD at the weekend (given there is no URC on atm), but it's really conceivable guys like Andrew Smith, Fionn Gibbons, Shay McCarthy, Jake O'Riordan, Kieran Ryan and maybe even Evan O'Connell will be available to them largely through the end of the season. Ruadhan Quinn (who scored 4 tries v UCD) is the only guy who I think is at a higher tier and higher up in Munster mgmt plans right now.

Great to have the derby on a stream, credit to Marys, worthy winners at the weekend. Pitch was very heavy it seemed but fair play to them, begrudgingly, will come down to Clontarf game at end of the season to see who has top spot I would think

Cannot remember last time Tarf lost two in a row.

Only looking at the lower league tables for first time in a few weeks there, Galwegians and Barnhall will win their respective leagues in next two or three games.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31 RugbyAcount222

it doesn’t really matter who comes top in 1A.
top 2 are home semi finals. As I’m sure you know.
Barnhall having a phenomenal season. They just put 50 points on second place. Very good coaches and a very well drilled side. Recruited well at 20s level over the past few years and added to a good community based squad.

Galwegians basically have 5/6 professional players playing every week in 2B…

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 675 ✭✭✭Chico Flores

Well it matters in the sense of playing 3rd or 4th, but seen as all sides are good. That might hinder more than help. Id love to see Trinity back up. They dont have any Leinster lads really this year and play such great rugby

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31 RugbyAcount222

Yeh, fair point around 3rd / 4th. It’s not really a breakaway top 2 this year anymore! Lots of teams with chances of getting top 4 in 1A.

Trinity have new coaching group in this year and are playing good rugby. I still think Wesley will go up which is long overdue. Wesley well coached and have lots of depth.

Blackrock potentially going to have a late charge at top 4? Jack Deegan hasn’t featured much for them. Is he still injured?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 121 ✭✭slowway20206

Deegan hasnt played all season due to injury.

Of the 23, 8 clubs are represented. The Top 7 clubs in 1A, and Instonians (3rd in 1B). 1A clubs without a player in the squad are Nenagh Ormond, UCD and Old Belvedere (who do have a player in the travelling reserves).

    • Jamie Clark - Old Wesley

What are the rules around this? Could someone like Andrew Smith who hasn’t played with Munster this year or Jordon Coughlan who’s an ex pro have been selected?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,658 ✭✭✭FtD v2

Jordan Coghlan definitely could have been selected, he's played on the team in prior years.

I'm not certain on the rules around picking academy or contracted players is, but I would say there is an agreement between the two mgmt teams to refrain from doing so.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 5,320 Mod ✭✭✭✭Lost Ormond

Dont think anyone on a contract should be selected. Coghlan isnt on a contract so could have been picked

Just looking at the junior leagues so see which teams are likely to be round robin qualifiers to decide who will be promoted to senior.

In Munster Kilfeacle are barring very unlikely results will be champions. theyre 7 clear at top with a game in hand. 2 games left for all their challengers while Kilfeacle have 3 games 2 of which are against the two bottom sides

In Leinster Boyne lead by 3 from Tullamore with Suttonians 12 behind Boyne but have 2 games in hand on both sides above them.

In Connacht Ballina finished league stage in first with Dunmore, Ballinasloe and Creggs to be in playoffs with them. semis and final decides who wins league and enters round robin

In Ulster Enniskillen lead Portadown by 4 points with 5/4 games left for each. Dromore are 12 behind Portadown but have 4 games in hand on Portadown so could definitely come into the reckoning

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 412 ✭✭Strand1970

Connacht want 2 AIL teams in 2A and have supported Galwegians this year. Fair enough as buccs are still recovering from the Eddie era and the fall out from it.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 5,320 Mod ✭✭✭✭Lost Ormond

With Nenagh so likely to be down from 1A i really hope we can get another non Dublin side up from 1B so Inst/Highfield to come up

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,730 ✭✭✭realhorrorshow

Bit of a shake up in Connacht, Connemara and Creggs had been dominant for a while.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 5,320 Mod ✭✭✭✭Lost Ormond

Yeah apart from couple years Ballina won and actually went senior its been a lot of Creggs and Connemara for years. While before that it was Monivea nearly every year for a long time. think they were in round robin 8 or 9 years in a row

Dromore likely to get shafted by the Ulster Branches inability to construct a season plan that doesn't punish success in the AL Ireland Junior Cup.

Clogher, Ballyclare, Enniskillen all been caught by this in previous years and they either don't care about the players, or aren't creative enough to fix it.

Dromore remaining fixtures (9 Fixtures in 35 Days)

Sat 14th - Towns Cup Semi Final v Hinch 2s

    Wed 18th - League v CIYMS (H)

    Sat 21st - League v Enniskillen (A)

    Weds 25th - League v Cooke (H)

    Sat 28th - League v Bangor (H)

    Sat 7th - League v Omagh (A)

    Weds 11th - League v Ballymoney (A)

    Sat 14th - League v Randalstown (A)

    Sat 21st - League v Portadown (H)

If they do manage all that, 6 consecutive Saturdays and 3 Wednesdays to win the league, including the 2 sides currently above them, they will be going straight in All Ireland Playoffs against Leinster, Munster and Connacht sides who have maybe played 3 games in that period, and in addition Dromore might have a Towns Cup Final to deal with as well.

I believe the Junior Playoffs this year are Ulster Winner v Leinster Winner and Munster v Connacht.

Player Welfare at the bottom of the list for the Ulster Branch.
