We are third and Con are 4th. So Con are already in the top 4 race??

I dont Rock in big danger yet. They are 6 points clear of Queens at bottom and lads coming back but need to start getting wins. Queen's getting beaten heavily every week.

Barnhall have won 10/10, not so much one of the form teams but the dominant one surely.

Its great how competitive the leagues are

Who of the above could do a Jerry Cahir on it?

Bobby Sheehan and Aaron Sexton obviously?

From my limited knowledge I have always been very impressed by Jack Kelleher from Con. I thought Sean French looked brilliant underage, thought he might have gone well with Munster, never kicked on alas. Anyone else?

Gilvarry tops or is near the top in quite a few AIL stats. Max Russell is a player that works incredibly hard, he's a hybrid hooker/backrow

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,073 ✭✭✭typhoony

Maybe take Max Russell off the list as he's in the Leinster Academy squad to play Toulouse Espoirs so technically he's already made the jump from AIL. I assume theirs only one Max Russell

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,728 ✭✭✭realhorrorshow

It's a shame Gilvarry didn't get more of a shot with Connacht, think the move to scrum half likely came too late and his time in the academy also coincided with COVID. He was part of the 2001 group that won the u18 interpros with the likes of Eoin de Buitléar, Darragh Murray, Oisin McCormack, Cathal Forde, and Shane Jennings.

outside bobby and aaron who u already mentioned……… gilvarry 100%! quality player. we played cookies in limerick earlier this year and were up abit and then cookies put in a performance to almost nip it towards the end around halloween time of the year but he had a big role to play in that performance just every time he gets the ball hes exciting to watch

Sorry if this is a stupid question but can anyone just pitch up to watch an AIL match. Quite near one of the Dublin clubs and wondering about bringing along my elderly rugby mad Dad. Would there be any seats or is it standing pitch side where ever you can get a spot? Thanks

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 5,320 Mod ✭✭✭✭Lost Ormond

Yes anyone can go to any AIL match. now really depends on club whether there is a seat(not too many clubs) but if not they may have bar overlooking pitch which you can watch game from. if you say which club me or other posters can say if theres decent seating for someone older to sit at

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31 RugbyAcount222

Yes, most clubs charge €10 in for adults.
The best ones in Dublin for seating would be Old Wesley RFC, Bective, UCD, Greystones. They all have stands with seating and would be handy for your dad.
I’m sure there are more but they are the few that spring to my mind.

Thanks, It would actually be St Mary's as Templeville Road is nearby. I see they have a local Derby vs Terenure in a few weeks time which could be good. If you can just pay at the gate that would be great

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 146 ✭✭RAKM

I think parts of Mary's bar overlook the pitch. Get there VERY early.

Ballymena beat Dungannon today in their rescheduled Div 2A fixture from last weekend, which leaves MU Barnhall 13 pts clear of Dungannon with 10 matches played. Couple of big weekends coming up with BH playing Greystones (5th) at home while Shannon (3rd) host Wanderers (4th). The following week BH play Dungannon (2nd) at home.

some interesting results today, some win for UCD, double over Lansdowne with effectively a 20s team is remarkable. Massive win for Belvedere, particularly in the context of that UCD result. Hinch obviously battled well, but needed the win, feel they are too far off top 4 now. Tarf do enough, Nenagh seem to have got some work post Christmas. Terenure beaten badly by Young Munster, I heard things not going great under Spencer behind the scenes, interesting to see how it all plays out there.

What a win for Rock, Wesley look a certain for 1A now, delighted to see them do it after so many near misses. Naas under huge pressure, 28-0 down at one stage at home to Garryowen is a worrying look. Armagh & Highfield win important wins.

Shannon with a big win over Wanderers, Cashel with a massive 4 points. Same go Ballymena. Galweigans with 11 BP wins, fair play.

UCD getting the double over Lansdowne is huge for them, albeit you'd wonder what is going on with Lansdowne, they have been poor all year after making 2 or 3 big signings over the Summer. Old Belvedere doing well at home, another big win over Con. Seems the Spencer experiment up in Terenure is turning into a disaster if word on the street is true around our club. Cookies have done incredible work to get into Top 4, have stayed strong after a slow start, was at their game against us and it was a well deserved.

Naas seem on a bit of a decline while Old Wesley look set to win 1B after Blackrock's big win at home, not many saw that coming. Murray Kinsella tweeted an article about Blackrock's new hooker, was a great read → https://substack.com/home/post/p-184319102

Wanderers could be a sleeping giant, along with Barnhall. Two big clubs who could be capable of big things in 1A and 1B in coming seasons. You'd think Sean Skehan will be Head Coach in Wanderers soon enough however.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 202 ✭✭jimbob955

    hi

Young Munster Done very well but are they essentially Munster “A” in disguise!!

For the uneducated why wanderers giants of sleep?

Any any more details on terenure? An insane story getting Carlos! I loved him as a player, such a maverick, such a talent! I wonder is he cut out for elite rugby coaching? His CV not the most successful is it???

I am a Terenure clubman, albeit living in Germany. Don't think it is the unmitigated disaster you are making out.

We won the pre season league, had some great results like Lansdowne away, and some poor ones. Losing to Young Munster in Limerick isn't shameful. Very successful head coach like Sean Skehan moves on, there is always going to be some change.
Barnhall are a great club to be fair, been building for a few years now through their 20s, I am sure they will be successful in 1B. Wanderers are 4th in the table, 21 points behind them, I am not sure they will even be a lock for top 4.

Belvo UCD is a big one. A Belvo win would be huge for the fight to finish above 9th.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,129 ✭✭✭Rugbyf565

This is one of the most talented squads in recent years IMO

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,073 ✭✭✭typhoony

Terenure end Clontarfs 11 game winning run, very impressed by Arthur Ashmore who is still u19's but will surely be brought into the U20's team, Aran Egan also impressed at out-half

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31 RugbyAcount222

Mary’s win and push for a home Semi final. They probably wish Clontarf beat Terenure to widen the gap but Terenure will be delighted with their win.

Lansdowne thumped up in Hinch. It will be interesting to see how their season plays out. I have heard it’s not a happy camp.

UCD look in big trouble now. 8 points behind Old Belvedere. If Belvo win next week and UCD lose that pretty much keeps Belvo safe

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 675 ✭✭✭Chico Flores

Absolutely delighted for the team, I knew rumours of our demise were premature. Fantastic win, hopefully kick on and secure top 4

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31 RugbyAcount222

some seriously competitive games in 1A this week

Mary’s vs Terenure, predictions? Mary’s win for me, unless Terenure get Casper / Gunne

clontarf vs cork con , must win for cork con really. Clontarf will need to bounce back from last weeks convincing loss to Terenure

Then Lansdowne vs Belvo. If Lansdowne lose they could be gone completely from getting a home semi final.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 121 ✭✭slowway20206

Gunne is playing for Ireland A.

And Casper is injured I believe

In this weather? Marys at home I would bet. Very grizzled and can grind it out

Tarf will presumably play on their 4G. Would fancy their chances against Con.

Lansdowne Belvo will be an interesting one. Belvo comprehensively beaten at home by them (albeit Lansdowne did have Deegan that day!)

Belvo off the back of having to work very hard for 2 wins (although probably made to work too hard against UCD) I think they have every chance but I'd give Lansdowne as slight favourites.

I wonder if the Leinster lads have been given a few weeks off. The likes of Cahir and Tector could conceivably play for Lansdowne with no Leinster fixtures for a while
