How about the Senior B in Limerick???

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,756 ✭✭✭Mastermcgrath

Dessie, Fitzgerald, Leavey, Hogan, K Mahony, Ian Kenny, Aaron O’Neill… did someone post here that Mark Hartley and Conor Tobin are both training with the panel

Sheahan and Mikey Mahony possibly too? Hartley could well be called in. I wouldn’t anticipate him seeing much action so maybe he’d be better off preparing with the U20’s for their campaign. I haven’t seen much from Tobin to suggest he should be on the senior county panel. He’s still U20 also, I think that’s the place for him for now.

Tobin and Hartley don’t start for ballygunner so they should not be on a senior county team, granted they are still very young

What sort of injury does prunty have? Big loss.

it's rare we have the fortune of doing it , but KK famously brought in lads a year or 3 before they actually played them, allowed them time to get used to it and come in fully ready, makes perfect sense to do the same

sums the situation in the county up. Lads can’t get onto the Ballygunner team getting called up to the county panel

Hartley top scorer in the intermediate championship this year, at 18. Tobin looked like the best forward we had at u20 for Waterford the last 2 years when he was on the field.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,756 ✭✭✭Mastermcgrath

not disagreeing. They’re both top quality forwards

Anyone know if Gavin Fives is on the panel, injured or away?

Not denying Hartley deserves a place on the panel. Training with them may stand to him when it comes to the U20’s, I’d just hope he’s some way involved with the U20’s also as he will be an important player there.

I don’t want to seem overly critical of a young player, but I think Tobin scored 4 or 5 points across the U20 Munster campaign last year? Hopefully he can push on this year, but I think the 20’s is the right place for him to develop.

it’s not just about Tobin, We had zero wins out of 8 games the past 2 years at u20 level and will probably struggle this year aswell. The management have brought in at least 5 or 6 from that Group in the hope they go on to replace lads that have been stalwarts for 10/15 years. Some of them have actually done well in the pre season and league game against Limerick. But, thats the reality of where we’re at.

I think there are good players within that U20 group the last 2 years. If anything it could be argued they regressed with that management team. They had played in the Munster final as minors and a cohort of the group had been in a Harty cup final as well (with DLS also having a strong team last year).

I agree, there are players worthy of a place on the panel. Glad to see Keane and Lalor get chances, Twomey also worthy of a place but might be a little light still. Aaron O’Neill I hope can make the step up and challenge for a corner back spot. Mackey proving himself with the seniors too, an excellent player. I personally don’t see Tobin as ready to step up by comparison to those players. Would be delighted to see him do so in the future though.

I do agree and the fact we’ve struggled to win games at u20 comes back to being in a Munster championship that is top heavy in comparison to Leinster just like senior grade. In fairness to the co board, proper succession plans are in place this year with Joxer moving from the minors up to the u20s and Darragh O Sullivan gone in with the minors hoping to follow the same path. We’re better set up for success than we’ve ever been we just hope the talent will come through over the next few years.

Best of luck to the team today

Important game if we want to stay in 1A

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,999 ✭✭✭Asdfgh2020

As I said earlier in week this should be a 6pt plus win if a performance like last week is repeated…..however the Offaly lads will believe they can beat us and they are fighting for their div 1A lives….who remember last years division 1B final v Offaly……we were cruising from memory but young duignan caught a few big balls from memory and caused havoc in last 10/15 mins. Think we only ended up winning by 2/3 pts…? It was 4 actually report below. 15 pts up at one stage🥲

is the game on gaa go?

best of luck to the team today hopefully they can follow up last week performance with another win today. Think it’s a trick game and real banana skin. Offaly rested all their college players last week against Tipp whereas this week the likes of screeny etc are all playing. This is definitely a game Offaly would have targeted at the start of the league. If we are not on it we will be in bother. They gave us plenty of problems last year especially with the direct high ball into the full forward line where duignan was a hand full. Prunty is a big loss hopefully nothing long term as big picture wise he is crucial if we are to have any chance of getting out of Munster. Full back line not the same when he doesn’t play and not ideal that we have to play mark fitz there.

    Tg4 kicking off shortly

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 248 ✭✭Pudz2180

Offaly not afraid to use the hurl, ref looking straight at the pull down on Callum Lyons and not even a free

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 42,561 ✭✭✭✭PTH2009

    Poor game so far

Scrappy, stop start match. Ref is too fussy.

Tipp hammered Offaly last week ; no repeat of that today.

Lots being left go for the visitors , I expected a hard fame and they're giving us one , they've had 3 yellows (and for some reason we have 2 ) and arguably should have lost a player by now with their decapitation tactics. In saying that making for a good fame and glad they're putting up a fight
