I’m on week 4 of Ozempic. Definitely lost a couple of kilos but appetite didn’t really diminish, moving to 1mg this weekend so hoping the higher dose kicks in a bit more.

Less than one year later - I'm switching to maintenance sooner than expected! I weighed in at a whopping 327.4lbs (~149kg) Feb 21st last year, BMI 46ish, cardiologist appointment the next week - things weren't looking too good frankly. I've posted a few times over the time but I've followed an aggressive OMAD fasting diet, latterly with a protein focus, and also started Mounjaro 28th February. Weight loss was rapid (~4lbs per week for quite a while) but not too much since mid October which I put down to a lot of international travel, Christmas etc. I titrated up Mounjaro quite slowly (let's face it, I didn't need to lose weight even faster) and moved up to 10mg a few weeks ago. Additional to this I began doing huge amounts of walking from ~May and am now regularly tipping over 500k steps per month - I've also added jogging in the last few months, albeit limited. I'm also on low doses of two blood pressure meds, and a low dose of statin.

As of last week, I was down to 205lbs - still at least 30lbs overweight by any BMI metric, but I was aiming for 190lbs as a goal. By coincidence, we were offered free health checks at work (blood panel, clinical body composition analysis), for which I got the full results yesterday. Very positive reading! Pretty much all bloods on point - excellent even (glucose 3.9, Hb1Ac 31, total cholesterol 3.6, LDL 2.0, HDL 1.12, triglycerides 0.55). But the real surprise was in the body composition - despite having lost a huge amount of weight, it seems to have all been fat as my skeletal muscle mass came in at over 40% - athlete territory basically. Body fat 15.7% - really good, and the dreaded visceral fat coming in at a piddling 0.8L. Overall, my BMI is still approx 30, but it's safe to say that that is entirely due to large muscle mass. At 51yo, that ain't bad….

I've decided to stop focussing on weight loss now (while still holding a medium term goal to drop to that 190lbs, but with no specific deadline) and prioritise fitness and muscle instead. Got a cheap taster month at my local gym for January, but have signed up for real now, attending a strength & conditioning course the last few weeks and now also doing my own thing a couple of days per week. Started creatine too. I've also rolled back on the OMAD and am now having lunch as well, adding another maybe 600 cal per day.

For the Mounjaro, I've got a couple of pens so I'm going to drag them out over a few months gradually titrating down with the intention of stopping late spring or into summer.

Well done also. I'm hoping and presuming the body composition analysis was DEXA or better in terms of accuracy.

Clinic grade impedance, so eight electrodes on various areas. Looked it up and seems to be usually within a couple of percent of DEXA.

Hi, I’m interested in looking further into this. Can anyone point me to the cheapest way to get Mounjaro currently by prescription, please?

I had a quick look at the costs of https://my-bmi.ie/mounjaro

I have a Benefit plan with Irish Life Health. Am I correct that they will pay 50% of the consultation costs each month? And that I can claim tax back at 20% on the remaining consultation costs and partner pharmacy costs?

So if I ended up on 15 mg, the monthly costs would be €392.99, but after the consultation refund and tax back, it would work out at approx €268 per month?

    Thanks

you should be able to claim some of the consultations and like any medical expenses add them to your end of year tax claim, so you get that 20% back

    Hi,

I’m 5'10", male, and weigh 244 lbs. I want to get down to 168 lbs, so ideally I’m looking to lose 76 lbs. Can anyone advise how much loose skin I’ll likely have if successful, and is there anything I can do to mitigate this?

    Thanks

    5'9" male

    Starting weight 224 lbs

    Current weight 181 lbs

No loose skin so far! 😊

Err... I think how much loose skin is dictated by many factors, not just height and weight lost - e.g. age in particular, how long the extra weight was present etc.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,958 ✭✭✭Deep Thought

skin is flexible and retains that spring, and any normal weight-loss it should adjust , but as mentioned it depends on the weight how long it has been stretched.

    You will be fine

Nice job. I want to hit mid 70 Kg, and if I keep at this rate that’s another 4 months.

my goal is simple, respiratory consultant says if it’s mid 70kg by August, I can do another sleep test and hopefully manage sleep apnea without a machine.

Just redid my maths - is the best price for max mounjaro 268 net per month (after tax back and health insurance)?

    Hi,

I drink about twenty cups of tea a day with 2 to 3 litres of milk, this is where a lot of my excess calories come from, didnt anyone notice the habit of drinking tea/coffee changing as a result of the injection?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 659 ✭✭✭Minier81

I am drinking less coffee, just don't fancy it now, i have the odd one. Drinking more tea as a result but without the longing for a biscuit with it.

Anyone have a active code for mybmi?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 7 macker15

Here is a mybmi code for € 40 off I think

    89443Linda20free

You asked about Irish Life, in my case they only reimburse €40 for the consultation and they treat it as a GP visit. You will need to check your individual plan but doubt you will get 50% off.

I'm nearly a year on mj now if you have any questions. Highly recommend it too.

I signed up, if you know of other promo codes for monthly ordering please share

    Cheers

You can only use a promo code on your first consultation.

    Full price after that.

Great weight loss, but I wouldn't but too much faith in the impedance testing. They can be useful over a series of readings to spot trends. But individual readings are not reliable. Eg 15% BF means you'd only have ~30lbs fat. Meaning you'd have no change of losing another 30lbs.
That level of lean/fat mass is possible, but its really on extreme end of natural limit. More likely the test is off and you can conrinue to lose weight

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,210 ✭✭✭Escapees

That's I was thinking originally but just gave the benefit of the doubt (whilst wondering in my head what on earth this fella does or works at to have such a large amount of muscle!!). However the simple (and smart) sanity check you did above shows that the measurement is very likely off.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 41,198 ✭✭✭✭Mellor

Yup, and its best to be aware of flag those issues so future accurate measurement is not interpreted as "damn I've lost lots of muscle since start of year".

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 9,657 ✭✭✭Padraig Mor

I've been doing my own home impedance testing throughout using my smart scales but have approached it as being useful for identifying patterns only (which it did in that it said I lost fat, not muscle), not absolute numbers. The figures I gave above though were taken using professional clinic equipment in a health screening. I don't know much about it, but Perplexity suggests that such multi electrode impedance analysis is pretty accurate, and usually within a couple of percent of DEXA. Seems pretty good to me, but you have me questioning it now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 41,198 ✭✭✭✭Mellor

Using multiple readings over a long time, will balance out variance, and a downward trend is a downward trend. Regardless of whether the precise number is accurate. But an individual impedance is no accurate.

Clinic grade impedance, professional impedance is not a thing. Clinical setting use DXA. But they are big, expensive and immobile. So there's a gap for equipment that gives similar looking details, in a convenient package. They're aimed at weight loss clinics that sell "body fat IR melting" and the like. Or health screening.
The below type machine is one you see a lot. It's probably consistent, but not accurate.
    https://au.inbody.com/product-comparison/#

Not intending that in anyway as a put down. The numbers are similar not likely (unless you day job is extermely physical I guess). 15% BF at 205lbs is top end of what's naturally achievable. Can't see how its possible on GLP-1 medication. (unless you are also on TRT or something).

I just forcefully twist the MJ pen. Youtube has videos showing this. I use my back teeth to grip the top and twist with my hand. You put the needle on before you do this.
