So of all the countries in the world it's ranked 3rd? And someone here tried calling it a 3rd world **** hole. Wow!

Boston is considered safer then Dublin so in terms of safety it's pretty irrelevant to the decision. I guess Dublin is now a 3rd world **** hole. Certainly closer in the rankings then Boston.

I'm on the verge of a site ban. Please don't rage bait me, I'm easily triggered especially late at night!

    Boston is safer than Dublin…

Boston has a much higher homicide rate than Dublin. Boston’s violent crime rate is higher than the average in America, Dublin's is some of the lowest for a major city. And that’s on a per capita rate as well.

Do you even read basic articles before you claim such nonsense?

If it is such an attractive destination why for 2025 was it the only country out of 184 where international tourist numbers fell resulting in a loss of $12.5 Billion in tourist revenue ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,026 ✭✭✭RoyalCelt

It doesn't but if it was a nation it'd be a bigger threat. As an Irishman however the EU has enough reach already and I'm glad it's not a super power. In terms of economics it is.

    I did actually.

    https://www.numbeo.com/quality-of-life/rankings.jsp?title=2025&displayColumn=2

Qualify of life Boston ranks 124, Dublin 198.

So in terms of Irish going abroad Boston is more then good enough unless you consider Dublin a 3rd would **** hole like a poster suggested with America.

    Vancouver 137! Toronto 140!!

Nonsense you say? Let's not argue over a few dozen places on the rankings because there all first world cities by our standards. Plenty of American cities are extremely attractive to Irish who travel and emigrate and that was my original point!

    Goodnight.

You are viewing the Quality of Life Index 2025.

Oh dear, those aren’t crime statistics sweetheart. Best you head to bed now, it’s been a long day I’m sure. That link is a starting point, but there is no authoritative data in it.

    Take care now.

    ”as an Irishman…” who care?

What reach would that be? The mammoth list of benefits of being a member of the largest single market on earth? Yeah terrible.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,026 ✭✭✭RoyalCelt

Yeah so America is very attractive to Irish people. Glad that's settled.

My post about the EU is obvious. The EU as is, is sufficient and doesn't need to take over the US in terms of being a superpower. Same with China. We're fine as is.

Good night my man, I'm glad we sorted through that American 3rd world **** hole rhetoric.

My friend, your ignorance must be terminal.

Numbeo's reliance on crowd-sourced contributions from registered users introduces inherent risks to data reliability, as inputs are not subject to expert verification or peer review and can be edited by anyone with internet access.

This model allows for potential manipulation, as demonstrated in 2017 when a single Swedish user altered crime statistics for Lund, Sweden, by submitting multiple negative ratings via different email accounts, temporarily ranking it as the world's most dangerous city due to the low volume of initial data.

Particularly in subjective metrics such as the Crime Index and Safety Index, data derives from user perceptions via surveys rather than objective statistics, lacking a statistically valid sample size and failing to account for contextual factors like temporary events

It’s not even peer reviewed. Heavens sake.

    Sleep well now.

As someone who spent plenty of my youth over there, it is indeed a sh*thole.

Obsessed with wealth, status and orthodontics from an early age.

Teachers are treated like pariahs. As history has shown - Brexit being a closer to home example - it is easy to sway the uneducated.

Up until 9/11, veterans treated like dirt until the well calculated swing to thank everyone for their 'service'. That new patriotic fervour has removed any line of alternate opinions/views against the system and completely eroded the concept of 'free speech' (Colin Kaepernick says hello).

The greatest country in the world which for decades has been unable to look after it's most needy. The idea of freedom for many is the right to work three jobs just to meet rent.

Some wonderful people, yet an absolute self-indulged, self-serving mess of a country.

My only worry is how its downfall is going to impact the rest of the world.

I remember when the MAGAheads got triggered by GreenDay. It only took them 20 years to realise "American Idiot" is not patriotic. Similar to how they utterly failed to comprehend "Born in the USA"

It would be too embarrassing to be there while Green Day play American Idiot with the changed lyrics.

    Orthodontics?

Really? Obsessed with them? Gotta say, growing up there and now living in Ireland, seeing what I see of people in my age group, America's made the right choice there. Irish dentistry seems little more than a string tied to a doorhandle.

AS a general comment, I would not thrust one sylable from Trump’s mouth or from any of his administration , secretaries or his staff. You may ask “Why is that?”.

When you see the videos of the latest shooting in Minneapolis ,leading to instant death, and then that ‘piece of sh-t and waist of space’ coming out and saying the COMPLETE OPPOSITE to what the videos where CLEARLY TELLING us and doing so within an hour or two of the event THEN THAT is why .

If the administration can lie about something so obvious then it will be much easier for it to lie on something less obvious

Feel free to provide your peer reviewed stats on how Boston is a 3rd world **** hole and not attractive to Irish people. I've a feeling I'll be waiting a while.

    https://www.forbes.com/sites/laurabegleybloom/2025/11/10/100-best-cities-in-the-world-rated-in-a-2025-report/

Two US cities ranking above Dublin here with New York at number 2. An extremely popular Irish destination as we know. Not 3rd world.

It's above Dublin on the happy index too.

My understanding is that the the Garda Siocanna equivalent in the US are very poorly trained . Whenever there is an ‘overreaction’ by the police force in the US in confronting a suspected thief or someone trying to ‘ get away from them’ and the individual gets shot and killed or gets caught , grounded and and ends up dying from ‘ the lack of air ‘ to breath the general comment made here is that the police are poorly trained . If that is the case right across the board then the US a REAL problem

I get the impression that the ICE agents get a week or two of training before going to the ‘ front line’ . That information will hopefully come out when some EX ICE AGENTS resign in discuss with what ICE is doing and the methods used. I would not believe even one letter , eg ‘t’ just to be clear, not to say a syllable or word from Greg Bonivo’s mouth

University professors seem to agree with you. There's some that will no longer accept citations from .gov sites as reliable sources.

Well, whoever brought up 'obsession with orthodontics' as a reason to fault the USA needs to cop on. The US has excellent dentistry, especially in comparison with an orthodontic backwater like Ireland. There are plenty of reasons to fault the USA and it's citizens. Having healthy teeth and gums isn't one of them.

Whilst the deaths of the protesters is very sad and of course entirely avoidable, if one good thing comes from their deaths, it will be that America finally wakes up to the fact that they’re being taken over by Nazis disguised as American “police” .

Democrats need to lead the way now and capitalise on the revulsion people now feel-,from what I’ve seen on American media press conferences etc, they’re still being “too nice”- they need to call it as it is - murder.

Mildly surprised there aren't any recall elections going on. Perhaps that's something for the Spring. But, recall a few GOP house members in states where the governor appoints replacements and is a Democrat would really mess things up with the GQP congress.

For starters, Minnesota as 4 GQP house reps, and must have a special election in 35 days.

I'd imagine the veteran and military community is pretty pissed off too.

You're the person who claimed Boston is safer. It's got a murder rate of 5.29 per 100k. Dublin is at 1.8. Boston is most definitely one of the safer US cities but the US is by default less safe for any major city. Plus we don't have to worry about authorities performing executions…

Reports on the radio this morning that Bytedance, which is linked to China, retains a 21% stake in Tiktok in the US. Also that content critical of Trump has started to be censored.

A judge in Minnesota granted a temporary restraining order sought by local officials preventing Trump administration officials from destroying any evidence related to Saturday's fatal shooting of 37-year-old Alex Pretti.

On Boston, I would point out that even where a state has tough gun controls, that they can be brought in from other states where gun laws are permissive. This is a major problem with the Chicago gang violence. Republicans like to say it shows Illinois' tough gun laws dont work. But the gangs bring the guns in from out of state.

Also new CBS poll shows Hispanic support for Trump has dropped from 49% to 38%, and 70% of Hispanics disapprove of Trumps handling of immigration. Report below:

    #MEGA MAKE EUROPE GREAT AGAIN

I’m just waiting on Trump to press the nuclear button and declare a national state of emergency and cancel all elections 😀

Joking aside, I’d say that’s an absolute wish by MAGA and Trump - they’re still trying to figure out how they can orchestrate such a situation - they’ve spouted the threat of WW3 since day 1 in office, getting people into fear mode where there was no sound reason to begin with. But that’s their MO- watch out for plenty more fear mongering- but as the months go by, they are starting to sound more and more comical - Europe standing up to them over Greenland and now criticising the remarks of Trump about NATO soldiers staying away from the front lines has essentially been a diplomatic 2 fingers to America - more of this is needed.

In negotiation, if you keep making idle threats and don’t carry through, you lose total credibility - it’s best to assertively respond to all of trumps threats and derogatory comments about Europe.

I was wrong there but I'm right that America isn't a 3rd world **** hole and that's what I set out to disprove. It's a very attractive destination for Irish people and we're first world too.

On the issue of things that keep gifting, does anyone know if this is a genuine image and comment passed by Vance at what seems to be a law enforcement media event [given the uniformed people in the background] or is it an AI attack-image?

The only place I have found this piece of "information" makes me more suspicious than ever of the Torygraph's suckoing up to Trump:

    https://www.telegraph.co.uk/us/news/2026/01/26/misfire-of-victims-gun-fatal-ice-shooting/

I wonder who in ICE floated this one?
