Such a weak and cravenly performance. Kerkez is a sham of a footballer.

Maybe confirmation bias on my part but if everyone is pointing the finger at a different player....it's a coaching thing. The whole fecking squad are playing like shìte. I find it hard to believe every single one of them has forgotten how to kick a ball.

The first 15/20 mins of the game saw Liverpool play Salah into space, or attempt to play Salah into space around the box. It was working and there was a few small chances or almost chances. Salah involved around the penalty area which is where you want him. A couple of last ditch blocks by Bournemouth defenders.

And then we reverted to type and started to pass backwards and slowed it down etc. and then Salah became anonymous on the edge of the game on the touchline.

    Yes, and so was Mo.

Why I singled him out it it's another sign of Slots weakness, poor performances and attitude is rewarded and there is no consequence.

I guess he was trying to rest Ekitike for Qarabag but Gakpo again did nothing in his position.

It would have been better to start Rio and bring Gakpo on later.

I told my son that Robertson would be starting today based on Kerkez 1. starting the last number of games and 2. he seemed to be not mentally prepared to be playing Bournemouth at the start of the season. It looked like the booing was getting to him.

It also felt like because someone said it out loud during the week, forget who, maybe David Lynch, that we haven't conceded from a set piece since we fired the set piece coach we had to go and concede from a long fecking throw.

Almost felt similar to Palace. If we get possession from the first throw just boot it down the bloody field don't play it out for another throw in!

VVD has become so cocksure of himself, if he doesn't take the ball with his first touch, he doesn't bother any further.

The days of handing out bumper contracts to senior players should be over. The drop off from salah and VVD has been woeful

I think there would need to be complete player unrest like Real Madrid for Slot to be removed at this stage.

He needs to put all his eggs in the cup baskets for CL and FA Cup and plod through the rest of the season to get a CL spot.

Maybe the league win is giving him the breathing room in discussions to allow him a chance to win the CL.

I think if he loses to Qarabag this week, even though we make the play offs, he could be gone then.

We were hoping Slot could be the next Paisley to Klopp as Shankley. Unfortunately he's having more of a Joe Fagan second season.

Yeah, he was also being over the top in his negative reactions to everything. At one point he ran forward and wanted the ball from Robertson. When he didn't get he spent about 10 seconds gesticulating for not getting the pass while Bournemouth had already won the ball back and were attacking.

He still has moments in games where his quality shines but he doesn't run a game at the back anymore from start to finish. I still can't get over the handball to give PSV their penalty.

Not a hope of CL spot. Mid table mediocrity beckons. I think Slot is finished. Booed by home fans, online die hards have also turned, the football is turgid, spent 500m (yes excluding outgoings), continues to reward poor performance with full games (Salah), has more excuses than Brendan Rogers, very poor man management behind the scenes it would appear. Times up. Qurabag is not comparable to PL and will be a false dawn like Marseille. We are going backwards years with this style of football. Loosing CL spot is something we know all too well and it was a struggle to recruit talent without CL. We will be building from scratch again very soon if we continue this path and it will be firmly on Slot.

If it's not clear at this point, I want Slot gone.

4 points from our last 5 games. Wolves have 6 from their last 5.

Reigning champions in worse form than the team 7 points off 19th place.

If there is an opportunity to extract a fee from Saudi for Salah in the next week and a new right winger brought in, it should be taken. The new contract was a mistake and we should cut our losses. That's exclusive to slots position.

I think the problem for a new manager coming in now would be he's facing the same problems. The transfer window closes in 1 week.

We are screwed on CB's and we are not going to market to buy one.

Isak is still out until April.

McAllistar, VVD, Gakpo, Salah's forms have dropped off a cliff from last season.

Squad players have been used so little they are not up to match fitness if you do need them.

Our two left backs combined gives you about 1 player.

The new manager would have to be allowed to be given the rest of the season a write off and any cup run or win and as a high a league position as possible would be a bonus.

He would have to show though with the remaining months of the season a style of play that is getting us somewhere for next season as a new manager at the end of the season will not be allowed a proper pre-season due to the world cup.

I don't think we'll see any new signings this window, certainly not any senior permanent signings.

The manager's job is in the balance, and so the suitability of new players for both him & any potential new manager might not match. Also the transfer fee would eat into any potential recruitment funds for the new manager.

At the start of his second season we were in the bottom 3 for a while winning 4 of our opening 14 games.

In a 42 game season we won 22, drew 11 and lost 9.

We were knocked out of the League Cup by Spurs in the 3rd round after beating Stockport County in the previous round that was a replay due to drawing with them 0-0.

We got to the semi-final of the FA Cup but we were also held 1-1 by York County in that run and beat them in the replay.

You could just imagine what would have been said about Joe Fagan if social media was around at the time!

From what we see of Kerkeze we'd be stupid to sell Robertson

In real danger of missing out on CL football now, something needs to be done, Slot I'm afraid is finished, he's not going to turn this around, so time to cut our losses to have any hope of salvaging anything from this disastrous season. Alonso is available, won't be for long, he looks the perfect fit, and best hope we have of getting back on track.

The squad is in rag order despite the huge money spent, a lot of work to be done on the defensive side of the team, and even going forward for all the money spent we are poor. Hughes and Edwards are trying to be too clever and have ended up with a poorly balanced squad, made worse by Slot's poor management this season, that being said we should still be capable of getting better results and better performances. Also no harm if we signed a defender this month!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,375 ✭✭✭brevity

Yea, there is a lot of uncertainty at the moment.

Slot is the head coach, would Alonso accept that? He would know about the contract situation of the players and others at the club.

The spending spree at the summer was absolutely needed by it was too much too late imo. We are on a knife edge really.

I think the main benefit of Alonso is his relationship with Wirtz and Frimpong.

I hope he's been studying this squad and has a plan in place for how he's going to use them

He's just after scoring 4 goals in 7 matches for Egypt in the African Cup.

I think Alonso would have to accept that. It's the way all the big clubs are going in the PL.

On a lot of the podcasts I listen to, they frequently mention the fitness of the players so is that another problem that’s going on behind the scenes?

Weirdly enough there has been no leaks or massive rumours of “losing the dressing room” or that sort of nonsense. Slot wanted to keep Diaz is the only thing that I heard.

It will all come out eventually I suppose

    40 touches inside their box

    70% possession

    14 Shots

    11 corners

Commentators were praising the performance, until Bournemouth scored their first, I think we all were

'' as against the run of play as I've ever seen'' they said , or something to that affect

We never worked the keeper though, I think Wirtz's desire to score the perfect goals has infected the whole team, 615 passes, all worthy of praise, but Bournemouth had 5 shots on target, and smashed or bundled in 3

1.57 points per game this season, and bear in mind that includes the streaky first 5 wins. We're on course for 59/60 points come season end.

At this stage I wouldn't argue against the entire triumvirate of Edwards, Hughes and Slot being shown the door. One shambles after another.

    100%.

He's chosen 'control' over intensity. It's a way of conserving energy, in his mind. But what's happened is that I don't think we're actually fit enough.

Xabi Alonso is one of my all time favourite Liverpool players. I don't really know that much about him as a coach unfortunately, beyond that he led an inspired Leverkusen to an unexpected Invincibles season, and won their first ever Bundesliga. I can't say I watched them enough to comment on the philosophy or their style, but he was a terrifically smart player himself, with an excellent reading of the game, a wonderful range of passing, and real style and class.

I think Liverpool should go for him. Xabi loves Liverpool. I know they looked at him previously, but the timing wasn't right. I don't think I can hold Real Madrid against Alonso, and they are basket cases themselves.

Liverpool are probably holding back because the club does typically give managers time, and Slot was obviously manager for last year's title.

Feeling is maybe the stars have aligned, and the club should be decisive. 'we thank Arne for…'

Wow fair play for remembering that.

I just remember Heysel and finishing 2nd to a very good Everton team

    Those were the days...

You can keep the Edwards' and Hughes' of the world, but they should basically brief the manager and he makes the decision and has the final call.
